  1. SMU went 2-4 before he got hurt (one win was against FCS Texas State); Kyle Padron replaced him in a game they lost, then went 5-0 as a starter. I'm not seeing any reason to bring him here.
  2. If anyone has already posted the link to this online article, mods please delete this thread. I just thought this guy had at least one thought I have not encountered before; bringing in former Rice and Kansas wr coach David Beaty to form some kind of double headed OC team with Dodge. It almost makes sense; just do an internet search on "David Beaty" and he sounds like a genius recruiter and receivers coach. The writer, (Tobi Writes?) seems to think Clayton George had a better OC resume than Ford, so that maybe this Beaty could take over receivers coaching, and REALLY recruit this area. Bleacherreport take on UNT opening
  3. That's the best thing anyone has said about GPS navigation in a while.
  4. Hey, I've spent time over at the SMOO board too. The first guy badmouthing Bellazin was basically expressing disinterest in SMU football after they lost to Washington State early in the season; "General Patton"; I guess he came back and nobody remembers him trash talking their program just a few months ago. Every program has its bandwagoners, I guess.
  5. Well, that might go along with how often they mentioned how "close" we came to winning however many games last year. And those of us who think it was a team that, as Vito said was "not clutch", may just be hoping, as I am, to be proven wrong.
  6. My concern is that our existing staff hasn't shown that it is capable of "making it" yet. I'm mostly concerned about our kicking game being as bad as it is, and no discernible improvements for it made under any of our present staff. So, maybe that salary should be spent on someone to specifically upgrade our special teams coaching. On the other hand, we've had way too many offensive turnovers, and not been able to eat up clock when we've had a lead. So, what do you think should or should not be done in terms of that position which is now vacant?
  7. They are all flawed. The only problem is; they're part of the democratic process, and nobody has come up with anything better. This is just my opinion, of course.
  8. Dang, just when we're talking about maybe needing to recruit a thug, this guy comes along to make that look like a bad thing.
  9. Those arguments about not paying him almost $200k sound reasonable; however, why is it assumed that we would have to pay him that? Does anyone know whether: 1.) his contract is like that of most assistants, therefore not guarantee and he only gets what is remaining of a 1 year contract, or 2.)whether it is like most head coaches contracts, where he gets paid the remainder of a multiple year contract, minus whatever salary he gets by taking another position (assuming that salary pays less). Either way, taking a position at North Texas would not reduce his current income, which is either "0", or his previous salary minus anything he would receive from North Texas. This is all assuming he doesn't already have a higher paying offer available. Anyone know any different?
  10. Does this exist in writing anywhere? It seems only lately it was determined not to exist in state law.
  11. I told my wife last night that I expected some of these guys to be among the first; according to this, 100 are there; another 800 soldiers will arrive tomorrow, a total of 5500 on the way, including 2200 Marines: 82nd Airborne troops arrive in Haiti Let's send our hopes and prayers to all those serving in this relief effort and those needing help.
  12. I guess I'd like to see the legal process play out enough to see what all is involved; I'm no goody two-shoes or anything but, hey, a guy has to stay out of jail in order to play. If it turns out to be a one time thing which could be resolved somewhere short of a felony conviction or indications of him being a hopeless troublemaker, I'd be ok with giving him a chance.
  13. I like it. Gandy probably stays quite busy at recruiting; most of his football experience is in the running game, which he has coached as well as anyone here could. That could give allow him to focus on the one aspect of our offense where we have abundant talent but need better offensive schemes to make it work better. Our special teams play needs one (and only one, with no other responsibilities)coach to make it work. Russell has been that person before and could be again.
  14. I think that Dodge does call the offensive plays and therefore should just name himself OC and use the position opening to hire Erik Russell. It seems like he did a great job at North Texas coaching special teams; we could just have him take over the entire responsibility for special teams and get away from the disaster that our kicking game has been. We'll never become a winning team with the ST meltdowns that have been with us during the Dodge era.
  15. If GoMeanGreen1999 can cut him that much slack, then I can too. Especially since coaches aren't coming with any kind of guarantee these days, and Dodge does seem to want to be here (for now anyway). Mainly, I think it would indicate that Dodge had started making needed changes. If he continues making some of the mistakes he has made in the last year, he won't win 6 games next year, and probably not 5.
  16. Well, now that we have an opening at OC, these coaching shuffles seem more connected to UNT football.
  17. I'd prefer a cool, dark place to being choked and slapped, but hey, that's just me.
  18. Troy Calhoun of Air Force and Gary Patterson of TCU, among others, Link: Vols HC search
  19. Hallelujah! I'm sure this will give us GMG members something relevant to North Texas football for discussion for a while, anyway. I knew some of these assistants would "find new jobs". No, I'm not sure about how much difference it will make as far as offensive philosophy and play calling, but I think it means one more assistant coach with prior college level experience, and that's a good thing.
  20. Reminds me of a line from the movie "Happy, Texas".
  21. I hope you and your psychologist are both right.
  22. Why can't people be reasonable and see things my way?
  23. All these "ifs and buts" just reminded me, I still have some Christmas mixed nuts.
  24. As for Goldwater, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't leave the Republican Party immediately when he voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. Hell, once we had the Interstate Highway system, it was too far off the highway for many to find those "separate but equal" restrooms. He mellowed in his later years though; as much as he spoke in favor of allowing gays to serve in his beloved military, I'm sure if he'd been around to see the gay bashing aspect of the modern "conservatives" he would have repeated his "I stayed where I was, they're the ones who moved" (further to the right). No, those calling themselves "convervative Republicans" are no more inclined to keep the government out of peoples' personal lives than self styled "liberal Democrats" are inclined to keep government out of the corporate boardroom. As for Dodge, well I hope you turn out to be right about that one. Sometimes it's best when I turn out to be wrong. Have you ever experienced that?
  25. Too busy working. And nobody here changes anybody's mind about anything. You don't care about my politics and I don't care about yours. I just joined GMG because I thought, mistakenly, that Todd Dodge would bring winning football to North Texas. If you have anything to say that would convince me that I was right about that, which isn't simply your opinion, I'll venture my opinion on something else.
