  1. Really, it's just another example of our downplaying the Belt, when, again, it's our team not being up to Belt standards that's the real problem.
  2. Thanks for the link; it kinda made me wonder what's going on at Belhaven (Mississippi), an NAIA school it seems. Well, it is kind of discouraging, that they've had football since 1998 and are getting more looks by NFL teams than we are. Have any of our new assistants coached any drafted or free agent players?
  3. It sounds like he's made some big plays on special teams. We need a lot more of that.
  4. This bowl only needs some freezing precipitation on its inaugural day to put the "icing on the cake".
  5. Oh, here's a story of a quitter who finally got it right, on his fourth try, at a place now called UNT. Don January story in DRC By the way, I thought from watching the spring game that his grandson, Sean, looked like a good pickup at linebacker; I bet Don had a little to do with that decision.
  6. I believe that most people join sports teams, among other reasons, to play the game. In that scenario, to remain on a team with no real chance of playing would mean you had quit on yourself. And honestly, if players can step down to Division II teams, like Abilene Christian (my understanding is that does not require sitting a year), and play, they almost certainly have a better chance (small though it may be) at playing in the NFL than if they stayed with a team like Texas and got little to no playing time.
  7. I don't really "trust" the federal government, but I don't trust the banks, credit card companies, cell phone, or cable tv companies, or any state or local government entity beyond Reagan's advice, to "trust and verify".
  8. Here's a mention of Joe Guerra, part owner of Rudy's Tortillas/Rudy's Food Products, Inc.: Joe Guerra, other Hospitality Program Board of Governors
  9. For several reasons, I doubt that Rawlins will become the next (permanent) President of UNT. Still, he has major accomplishments in areas which are important to most of us here, especially in the promotion of sports programs and capital construction at Memphis and Wazzu. For that, and just out of general principles, I'll extend him a welcome and keep an open mind, hoping he will serve us well in Denton, for however long he stays.
  10. A google search on him provides plenty of ammunition one way or another for that option.
  11. Hmmm, I thought this thread was about killing some dude.
  12. I found a lot more to like about this year's compared to last year's scrimmage. I like Riley's attitude and quickness, but his position change seems to have led to a much more focused approach from the others competing for the starter's role. I really liked the greater variety of targets also; last year, it seemed like it was mostly Riley throwing to Stradford(sp?). Overall, I thought the players looked more involved; last year, it seemed a little too obvious that some didn't want to be there, and I didn't notice any of that today.
  13. I was hoping to find something worthy of a conspiracy theory here, since I find those interesting. I think ee has it right though; I only read of a pilot attempting to land in dense fog, against advice of air traffic control, and crashing in a forest instead.
  14. I'm in favor of it, and have never been on board with the"no assassination" policy. Is it somehow more more ethical, moral, or legal to use the somewhat convoluted legislative "war powers", resulting in wholesale slaughter of young people, who are serving in uniform on either side, usually as a result of conscription or financial need, than to off one or a handful of those dedicated to destroying our nation and our way of life?
  15. But, my beautiful wife will be in Dallas at her Pastel Society meeting. I'd love to see any and all of our tailgate crew. If enough of you guys are going, I'll bring something really nice to eat, in belated observance of my birthday a week ago. Dwayne Taylor
  16. By the way (and purposely not posting the quote), Vito mentioned that Cantly was about with a twisted knee and scheduled for an MRI. Maybe that would explain his lack of playing time, and could give us further concern about a lack of depth at DT.
  17. Thanks. I clicked on the thread because I thought you had something new to say.
  18. I hope you're right, but I doubt it. Until things change, we should always go for it whenever conventional wisdom says to kick. That, and always throw the kicker under the bus when a field goal gets blocked.
  19. I had to give you a "+" on this one. I was in Glen Rose last weekend, helping my wife who was teaching an art workshop at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Park. I couldn't help but think of Derek Thompson when I was in town there. That and pie; the Pie Peddlar has wonderful pies of whatever flavor we love here in Texas, by the slice, the whole pie, or they'll combine portions of different pies and sell them to you in one box. We got some cherry, key lime, and pecan. Had some of the pecan with ice cream this . Nothing against Riley, I just like the idea of Thompson, based on what people have said about him. My prediction: along with Fossil Rim, Dinosaur Valley, and the Pie Peddlar, Glen Rose will become known as the home of Derek Thompson.
  20. Well, the Bible does call Darius "righteous", so I'll give you one on that. Will you be at the open scrimmage again this year? It won't be exactly my birthday this year, but close enough to have a cake.
  21. Khoury is from Israel, according to this from the DRC: DRC on Khoury
  22. A good question. I think a better question will be, can the Mean Green kick a PAT next season?
  23. I'll second that. It's so tragic for any young person to die, much less be murdered, and on a college campus, of all places. Prayers to his family and all his loved ones.
