Am I The Only Fan Who Feels This Way
eulessismore replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
Winning is only part of the equation, but, it's a big part, and at the absolute minimum, one in which progress from one year to the next is expected, unless you've just won the mythical national championship. -
Dude, we miss you and we never felt like you'd done anything that most college students don't during some point in their career. Welcome back whenever you feel like it.

How Many Times Did The Tv Announcer Ask?

Needs the work? -
+1. Ane while we're at it, maybe all of us who are involved in UNT football could acknowledge that, however frustrated we are, the things that have kept us from winning will need to be overcome by coaches and players working on specific issues with a focus such as suggested in your last sentence. However, I have thought lately that if meangreenbob were to yell as loudly as he is capable of doing, when an opposing kicker starts into his leg swing for a field goal attempt, he might kick it towards Section C and away from the uprights.
-
If we keep our kickoffs deep and in bounds, we win by a touchdown or less. If we don't, we lose by a touchdown or less.

He just does it so everyone can experience a 3 minute hate....oh, I get it now, sort of a grudge catch?
-
I do not recall seeing any big fans on the sidelines (some are called "cooling systems"). Was I just too distracted by Bob's message to see them? Oh and +1 for "being there" at the radio show for us.

Persepctive From A New Season Ticket Holder
eulessismore replied to McKinneyMiner's topic in Mean Green Football
Not getting who you're talking about. Does anyone here? And how long has it been since we've been "doing well". And, among the guys who left the Alamo first was the one who came up with the flawed "strategy" for defending it. But, back on topic, welcome aboard, McKinneyMiner. I honestly had a great time myself, although I'd like to have those last 5 or 6 minutes back. -
You are not alone. To paraphrase what someone said about the entire team, If we had had one kicker over the last 4 years that had problems, I would think that kicker had problems. Having kicker after kicker regress after signing with us, I'm thinking the problems are at a higher level.

Persepctive From A New Season Ticket Holder

Not to hijack this really cool thread, but I'll always remember one of the headlines for the story of Ike dying: "Ike beats Tina Turner to death". Yes, from a tabloid, and yes, sick, I know. -
Better than Daniel or McElroy?

The song is "Hey, Baby", and it's not high school, although the harmonica player in the original Bruce Channel release, Delbert McClinton, may have played that part while you were still in high school. It's just kinda one of those things that almost any high school or college marching band plays during a football game.

His yell that incurred RV's wrath was immediately following the end of the game, so it wasn't at the same time Tune was being carted off. However, there was enough stress going on in those last few minutes I can understand how the sequence of events could be interpreted differently by different people. I think there could have been a little more restraint within that fairly narrow time frame of Tune going down, being tended to on the field, carted off the field, and the last play. Just my take on things.

I was close enough to said fan that I could never have missed a word he bellowed, and I do agree it is his right to say what he did, although I wish he would find a volume knob somewhere. The part where I part from what he did was, while there was still some question as to the physical condition and future health of our starting quarterback, not to mention the stress that injury must have been putting on his parents, was yelling out that "coaches lost the game" at that point. Honestly, it had to be frustrating for every UNT fan in attendance, even to the point of heartbreak for some, but to self appoint oneself to thunder out his pronouncement at that point should be worthy of rebuke.

Nathan Tune is one of the Great Guys! I posted this somewhere else last night, but it was very courageous and considerate of him to give a hand signal as he was being carried off on the stretcher, doing his best to tell us "I'm okay". Any parent should be proud to have such a son. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, Nathan.

+1. You gladden the hearts of UNT geography majors with your reply.

I hear your pain, but please don't make a word play on the KNTU station name.

Dang, you're topic title scared me, thinking maybe they'd brought that 30% chance of rain up to 100% (seeing that i's gone up to 40% isn't what I like to see). My wife has already advised me that there must be no monsoon for this tailgating today.

I've now stopped worrying about our lack of depth at corner; Dunbar: stride for stride with whoever they send deep.

Well, that could "enlighten" us.

Just thought I'd mention having gone to the Euless Trinity/ Arkansas Shiloh Christian game at the new Cowboys Stadium as part of a church activity, where it just happened that a guy riding with us was an engineer for HKS. When I told him about being a UNT alumni and fan, he mentioned how nice the stadium would be, and that our size stadium might be an optimum size for really enjoying a football game, compared with some of the "Mega" venues where football is played these days. Of course, his favorable opinion could be based upon the company he works for.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that timing thing; it's like what he's saying is,"why couldn't North Texas have interrupted the (even compared to the present) shambles into which they had fallen to recruit me? They didn't, therefore I'll place a chip on my shoulder, and talk trash about that buttwhipping yet further, as if anyone in the Five State Area could forget it even if they wanted to". This is all a great learning opportunity not to forget to comb the minor league baseball rosters for players who may have told somebody's friend's cousin to tell a coach who was already packing his office that there's this stud baseball/football player who's interested. I already don't care about him now. Oh, I may start caring about pro football now enough to cheer against the Houston team (Texans? Aren't we all?).

The only Rice Grad I even know OF without looking on the Internet is Larry McMurtry, who we all know is also a Grad of UNT, and was quoted recently describing Denton as "always fairly interesting" (I think this was in part a tribute to meeting his first wife there). One warm spot I have for him is that he responded to a letter my sister sent to him after "Lonesome Dove" the miniseries, informing him that he wrote something wrong concerning one of the characters. According to her, he "tried" to explain himself, but knowing my sister, I'm sure he failed to convince her. Interesting that the Wikipedia bio on McMurtry mentioned Ken Kesey's group of "Merry Pranksters" from the "Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" dropping in on Kesey's old buddy (from the Stanford creative writing workshop) McMurtry when he was living in Houston while a teaching assistant at Rice. I'll always like McMurtry because he grew up just the next county over from me, and got away with writing some of the things that he did about that area. Some of it wasn't too kind, but I guess they can say "hey, he was thinking about us". Wikipedia bio of Larry McMurtry

Urging All Mean Green Tailgate Troops....
eulessismore replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
That hasn't been hard to do...today. -
Don't be so shy; everyone's pretty friendly, as far as I can tell. And one other shout out to UntFlyer and Kram1, and the Alumni Association for making the "Fouts Field Farewell Tour 2010" items available for purchase. It's for a good cause; I wanted a mug, and so...I bought one. I'm guessing these items will be available at home games and other "watching parties", so be on the lookout.
