  1. As of a few minutes ago, UCLA leading Texas 20-3. Last time UCLA played in Austin (1997?), they put 66 points on Texas, with Texas going 4-7 on the season, John McKovic was fired at the end of the season, and Mack Brown was hired as head coach.
  2. So, will people here want to start considering the Houston OC, Jason Phillips as a potential next head coach at North Texas if Houston has a big season playing its 3rd string QB? Or do we want to stick with our "proven D1 head coach" criteria?
  3. Yeah, at least if he hadn't taken the offfer, we wouldn't have to start a new thread about him every few months.
  4. Who can blame them? Things went downhill fast for The Vols after the Tennessee-Martin game. Speaking of Tennessee, I wonder how bad Vols fans are missing Phil Fulmer.
  5. +1 I like your prediction better than mine, with that quick td by Maryland with about 4 minutes left. I especially like your "they'll be in every game".
  6. I think they'll beat Maryland today, and should have a great chance over Pitt (who is sucking this year) in their next game; if they come out of that ooc at 2-2, look out Sun Belt. Their head coach, Cristobal, has done a great job. Wasn't he an assistant at Miami of Florida (left with Coker firing?)? My bet is for them to go bowling, and I'd say they have as good a chance as any to win the Belt.
  7. As does Midwestern State University and Old Dominion. Just checked out the Lamar site and being reminded of Billy Tubbs, their AD, and a North Texas BB assistant coach before going on to fame at OU. He was my swimming instructor one summer while he was there; I guess a guy just couldn't make it on just being a North Texas BB assistant then.
  8. And, since that didn't work, we can't hire someone from the FCS level. One extreme to the other?
  9. Well, I'd say it's uncertain, from what I've read elsewhere (sorry, no time to chase down the links) whether he was considering coaching anywhere but Stanford during his various interviews. One thing is for certain: his only coaching success was at the FCS level, which many here have been saying is a risk that we can't afford to take. It was certainly worth it for Stanford.
  10. Just happened to see this on the Yahoo sports page. I didn't realize that happened just before the crash of the plane carrying the Marshall football team. Kinda sad, especially when you realize it wasn't just the crash that killed their program, but budget issues 16 years later. Here's the link: Struggle to keep memories of Wichita State Football Crash Tragedy Alive
  11. And please leadeth us across on a pedestrian bridge, so that no 18 wheeler doth smite us causing further injuries, yea even unto death. Also, please blesseth us so that no student-athletes in the fifth recruiting year following Darrell Dickey's curse being placed upon us shall suffer the sins of his fathers and be affected by the curse.
  12. More of us are noticing that. However, we ARE the board, so...I'm thinking there's a certain stress we get from looking at our won/loss record over the last 5 years.
  13. Cool; then I'll double down on what I'm spending this year.
  14. Some of us thought he looked good at the second scrimmage. Actually, I thought he looked to have the physical attributes for a QB. He can throw and run; give him a shot.
  15. +1 for bringing up what we have really needed, rather than psychoanalysis, which is psychological warfare. I guess one of the most disappointing things I saw in the Rice game was our lack of using the running game to wear them down more when we had the opportunity (early in the game, instead of a low percentage pass play on 3rd and 2). To me, it looked like the Rice defense was wearing down by halftime, and continuing when we were up by 5. When we didn't have any answer to that coffin nail punt before their go ahead score, you could just about feel the air going out of the stadium. I kinda wished we'd taken an intentional safety and free kicked it from the twenty, at least giving our defense a chance against a longer field. It was like you could sense that deja vu, "oh no, here we go again" from the players and coaches. And then, even the cheerleaders not knowing when to hold the noise down when WE have the ball...
  16. This, but PLEASE go back to the part during the week where UNT90 was talking trash about Ruth Buzzi, and is given the word that's she's married a UNT grad, who is the "brother of some poster's brother-in-law", or whatever...great backpedaling by UNT90 on that one.
  17. This may sound brutal, but since we've lost 2 starting QB's in 2 games with season ending injuries, it may not be a decision for TD to make, especially with Riley's injury history. Maybe the more important question: who are 2, 3, and 4 on the QB depth chart now?
  18. Anyone figured out why we can't solve our kicking issues?
  19. I still haven't figured out what got him sent off to coaching purgatory.
  20. I don't know, but I had been wondering how long it would be before that question was broached.
  21. Yes, but only if I can find out where meangreenbob is sitting before I buy my next set of season tickets.
  22. I'm thinking hold off on that till we hire Paul Johnson away from Georgia Tech.
  23. Well, I'm going whenever it's physically possible to do so. I bought season tickets, and, having put out that money, am subscribing to the "sunk money" theory of sports decisionmaking.
  24. I had some psychoanalysis one time from one one great psychiatrist and neurologist (brain doctor), who was probably the most hightly touted in either of those fields in this area. He may have been the last of his breed; the dark leather furniture in the dimly lit room, just asking you to tell your story (this was when I was spending more time trying to figure my life out). The guy passed away a few years ago, God rest his soul. The thing I liked about him was that he never couched things in "Counselor" talk, it was things like "have you been down?", "are you paying down the principle on your debts?". In one of the last sessions I can remember before he died, I told him about my then ex-girlfriend having left me for someone else. His statement (again, from a guy touted as having the highest academic and professional qualifications): "Well then, that just wasn't meant to be". I was glad to see Dodge come here, and respect all he's done for upgrading our facilities (I still think he forced the issue of the new stadium), and improving the academic standards of our football players, but I have become increasingly convinced that his tenure will end sometime during or at the end of this season, barring a miracle. If (most likely) and when (looking to be sooner) he is relieved of his present duties rather than turning out to be our Joe Paterno (which was my hope), I doubt if I'll think of any one thing that caused it; rather something like the words of that beloved old doctor, "that just wasn't meant to be".
  25. Maybe we should just hand off to our running backs more often.
