  1. Not quite getting that. Isn't Canales up in the pressbox? I thought clock management was almost always a head coach responsibility.
  2. I think that history would bear you out on this one. One of the other coaches with a terrible record at North Texas, Rod Rust (although he had a great first year with the recruits of his predecessor), went on to become a defensive coordinator for a couple of NFL teams, I believe.
  3. KRAM1, I distinctly remember reading somewhere (Tasty's Todd Dodge show report?) where Dodge was quoted as saying McCoy would start. I went to the game today with the hopes of at least seeing that, but was disappointed in that expectation (as well as in pretty much everything else but the players' effort). I was yelling "Play McCoy" from the stands until my wife turned to me and said I was being obnoxious. Sorry that I was, but just can't figure out why we're not playing the guy. That (lack of playing McCoy) remved any doubts I had about replacing Dodge ASAP. Sorry to say that, because I like Dodge personally, just don't "get" him anymore. Of course, it could be that being an Army veteran, I like the idea of an Army veteran doing well, but honestly, it seems like McCoy had been the only one so far who has brought any real pressure on the opponents QB, until Kelvin Jackson canme up with those 2 sacks (late) last night. Anyway, it's really becoming disappointing seeing us give up those opening possession touchdowns in every game. Seems like it might be time to try SOMETHING different.
  4. I'd be ok with him using George Carlin's 7 unmentionable words over the PA system at this point.
  5. My suspicion is that the discipline problem is him telling the coaches he can play better than the guys they have on the field. Not enough yesmanship.
  6. I believe that's what someone sitting around me said. Then a guy closer to the field turned around and said, "I can't believe he won at Southlake".
  7. You think maybe the side judge told him he was supposed to call a time out?
  8. I liked him being quoted as asking when he came to at the hospital, "Did we win"? I'm not seeing where the coaches have that concept anymore. The players still seem to want to play as well as the coaches will let them.
  9. It's bad when my wife tells me I'm obnoxious because I started yelling "play McCoy", and I stop yelling, not because I care whether or not I'm obnoxious, but because I realize the coaches have no intention of playing someone who could put pressure on the quarterback. I think our head coach likes quarterbacks, ours or theirs, and doesn't want them getting hit or made to throw the ball away.
  10. So, how does that explain not playing McCoy? I was telling people about how excited I was to see Dodge quoted as basically saying McCoy was as good as starting. Oh well, it's an interesting concept we have of letting opposing quarterbacks and receivers play pitch and catch like the young folks do for fun in local parks.
  11. This is just a thought based on buying UNT Symphony Pops Concert tickets at $25/seat for October 15 at the MPAC: spending $50 for two people to enjoy an event together doesn't sound unreasonable. Almost no perception difference between $40 and $50, in my opinion.
  12. Hey, the school could even provide some video of the UNT Symphony Orchestra, practicing for their pops concert to take place that evening. You know, the one that go TOP BILLING (perhaps due to a well placed email to UNT President Lane Rawlins) when they performed with Van Cliburn and Tim McGraw at the Superbowl LXV kickoff event in September. By the way, there still appear to be a lot of seats available at the MPAC for those wishing to start their homecoming celebration early.
  13. Not to get back to the subject of football, but I really think it's important for someone like McCoy to step up at DE and get some pressure on their QB. I'll agree with those who say we're thin on depth at corner, but the starters seem to be doing better this year. However, it seems like those big plays we've been giving up have something to do with our defensive linemen not getting into the opponents backfield or containing on the outside to stop the run or pressure the quarterback. Not to say we have to get a lot of sacks, but enough pressure where they don't just have all day to find someone open.
  14. I second having a little excitement over seeing what Baine can do. I was watching him and Riley warm up last week and liked the look of his passes; nice touch, good tight spiral. Also, read Todd Dodge being quoted somewhere, maybe Vito's blog that Brandon McCoy will either be starting or getting more playing time. Has anyone else noticed that the defense seems to get more pressure on the QB when McCoy is in there?
  15. A couple of things: 1. The Victory Plaza Studio is at Victory Plaza, part of the development around the American Airlines Center; here's a map (you'll need to scroll down to the bottom, click on "maps", and make sure you're looking at "map 1"): WFAA Victory Plaza Studio WFAA DOES still use its Young street Studio, and I see some shows being broadcast live from there as I walk from Union Station down Young Street to where I work, so there may need to be some clarification here. If it's broadcast from Victory Plaza, it won't be broadcast from 606 Young Street. 2. It was suggested in another post that people take the TRE to this event. The first TRE train of the morning arrives at Victory Station, just across the parking lot from the American Airlines Center (perhaps a five minute walk from "Victory Plaza") at 5:49, and at Union Station (maybe a 5 minute walk from 606 Young Street) at 5:56, so if the live broadcast is at 5:45 a.m., the TRE would not get you there in time. UNTflyer, Kram1, or anyone needing information about driving to or parking around either of those locations, please send me a PM; if necessary, I'll provide a cell phone number where you can call me. I will help anyway I can; having commuted to downtown Dallas (almost always by TRE for the last 10 years), I know how confusing it can be to go to Downtown Dallas. However, you will miss a lot of traffic going in at that time of morning.
  16. Good question, and one I've asked myself about others. Honestly, I'm just looking for things to feel good about related to North Texas football, and Joe Greene fills the bill for me right now.
  17. As far as I can tell, Joe Greene is paid to give speeches, so perhaps he was out making (gasp) money for speaking at UTEP. I just hope that, if and when the time comes, that he will be among those chosen to be part of a search committee for a new UNT head football coach; if doing so requires compensating said committee members, I would be in favor of it, rather than bringing in some consulting firm with no ties to North Texas, and with a history of mixed results.
  18. Jerry Moore won't be holding down a coaching position anywhere but Boone, North Carolina.
  19. So, are Paul Johnson's blocking schemes so complex that they require "co offensive line coaches"?
  20. Since you've identified a major problem in the first bolded text, I've decided to get off the fence and behind Coach Fran, a la the second bolded text. By the way, I'm Dwayne, barely know where Denia is, and have never really cared. Also, a problem with indifference is that it's considered really difficult to change. And, I've always liked windmills more than Don Quixote.
  21. I'll be there; my wife will be there, and if I see an announcement about Brandon McCoy starting at DE, I'll invite everyone I see.
  22. This is the 2nd week in a row I have noticed #7, Derek Thompson given credit for participation, and for a tackle (assist against ULL, solo against FAU). Is it possible that those should be credited to Jamaal Wilson, a db, who also has the number 7? There are a couple in the participation reports for both games that seem dubious (Christopher Bynes, Greg Brown), but Derek is the only one who has been getting statistics, making me think someone who is scoring is just looking at numbers and not names on the jerseys. Obviously, with more than 100 players on the team, some will have to share numbers.
  23. +1, and I saw him do some things late in the game avoiding a sack that looked impossible. Ever since I saw him play against Euless Trinity when Southlake eventually won state with Riley at QB, I've thought he played with a combination of fire and football smarts. Would I have preferred Tune and/or Thompson had stayed healthy and we had been given the chance to see what they could do? Yes, but Riley's always given it his best shot.
  24. I agree with this, and felt that we would pull it out somehow because of that. Also, I agree with what Dunham was saying in the post game; time to with the wildcat, or the single wing as it was called in the old days. We just don't have the players to try reverting to last year's gameplan (not that it worked so well last year). One more thing, Brandon McCoy will be a great player for us; get him in the game more.
  25. Yeah, I was hoping they'd gone for two; I just didn't see how we had that much left to win in overtime.
