A&M came in late after they found out that DW can sign autographs at a rate of 1,000 per minute.

I doubt it, as it seems to me that they normally travel where they can get the most exposure for the program, and Athens, Ohio is not a big venue.

Thompson wins Heisman, North Texas goes undefeated and goes to the Rose Bowl...it could happen.

My hat's off to Nick and the band for a great uniform casual appearance and a great halftime show. Most of all, thanks to the band for flirting with death by sitting the whole game in the brutal sun and temps.

Right name, wrong era...sorry. -
Who is this guy and how do I find his tailor?

Charlie Smith and wife....Charlie played for us when Corky Nelson was the coach. -
UCRM is a place run by and only conceived by, alumni of other universities taking a salary from the University of North Texas.

Why not go directly to the sports information dept...Eric Capper? He has the responsibility of telling you exactly what media is covering every game...it's his job.

I consider myself a pretty good fan, but I have to tell you that I almost did not come to the game with my wife, due to the unbelievable heat. Getting old is not fun. In the old days I would have laughed at the heat--now I run from it.

I did these for my wife and I to wear to the game tomorrow. I'll snoop around the athletic department in the next week or two and let you know if they are interested in letting me 'fly' with this. On the back of the gray shirt is the phrase 'Let us prey', which was to be the theme for the 1994 season, but I left the university before I could implement it.

Does anyone have a vector victor image of the Flying Worm
drex replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
It is amusing to me that neither the flying worm or the battle flag designs are included in the official university indicia for retailers to use. Rest assured that if some poor manufacturer did use these images the university would swoop down on them. -
Nothing would get the turnstiles turning like bringing in Denver...what a crowd pleaser.

Nice use of a magic marker to fill in the green on the helmet...I envision hundreds of workers with magic markers doing that terrible shirt.

Perception is amazing. This pup writer for the Daily has a higher perception of CUSA than the SunBelt, even though the SunBelt might be better top to bottom than CUSA....time will tell. Nice to be a part of a conference with a higher reputation.

The most satisfying opening game to me was the first game of 1984. Someone had stiffed us at the last minute and we had to bring in Angelo State as the opener. I worked hard with all sorts of promotions and we had over 17,000 for that game. As my memory serves me, we struggled and barely beat Angelo State and went on to an very average year. Anyway, 17,000 for Angelo State was quite remarkable, if I may say so.

Back in the 80's Corky Nelson, who was athletic director the the time (as my memory serves me), went to a Louisville game. He came back blown away by how Louisville had done so much with really not a lot of money (like us). He said that the customer service at the stadium was unbelievable. He mentioned 'ambassadors' who greeted all the fans and thanked them for coming. Concessions were very customer friendly, etc. Anyway, he said that North Texas had a long way to go to give fans the same game experience as Louisville did. Thankfully, we have gotten a lot better at public relations at the game....the customer service office during games is really a good thing, and the spirit shop on site is great. Even the yellow shirts now welcome you to the game when you come in....in the past it was rather dismal....even concessions being sold by people wearing Texas and SMU shirts, etc. So, we have come long way, thankfully.

Brings back memories of the famous Helwig move to orange and blue for North Texas school colors. He overlooked the fact that neither was an official university color.

Question for those predicting less than 6 wins
drex replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
Any way you look at this fan base is beaten down. The football year, coupled by the basketball debacle really tests the faithful. Let's hope this is a breakout year...we break out about every 10 years historically, so maybe this is our year. -
What an interesting twisting and turning dialog. We went from my smart ass comments about Alabama-Huntsville to all kinds of accounting lingo to the poetry amateur hour....man, what a great board this is.

If we can ever get this dang thing turned around, we can get better stations. I never will forget how pissed TCU was when they found out that North Texas was going to be on WBAP for the '88 or '89 football season. Mercer worked his magic and we were competitive.

$30.4 Million 2014 UNT Athletic Budget (Proposed)
drex replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
So how much does that work out to be per touchdown? Only time will tell. -
History lesson: While no buns had the logo, in the 70's the McDonald's close to campus had North Texas helmets as their light fixtures and the decore was the lime green that North Texas was using at the time.

Nice to see some class from opponents, rather than the usual junk our opponents post on here.
