The respect for North Texas men's basketball continues unabated.

It will be a sad day when FBS schools look to Houston for leadership.

There is something that smells about our quarterback situation...there is just something going on that we do not know. Most programs go to plan B when plan A fails, but not us, apparently.

At some point a decision needs to be made as to whether we want to merely tread water or if we want to actually 'go for it.' Until then it will remain status quo. The Iowa connection thing bothers me, too.

SMU should be thanking us. We brought a lot of people and a real band. They will get theirs next year at Apogee in front of 300 of their fans.

Let's work on fixing the team and then we can work on fixing the crowd. Just glad that so many were there yesterday.

So, SMU, it might be a good idea to take North Texas seriously...not treat us as a FCS fill in game. Our program is just as good as yours at this point.

Well, the thing that irked me about the call from SMU that day was that we did not even play them that year, so it was fairly irrelevant to them, other than an opportunity to laugh at us...as you may remember, we were I-AA at a the time (1984) and season ticket sales were very puny. No one really wanted the I-AA status that Al Hurley forced us into, so season ticket numbers were low.

There is even more to this story. When we played them at Texas Stadium and they were the home team, they sent us tickets scattered in bunches throughout the stadium..would not let us sit as a block. One year they gave tickets away at Jack in the Box and then criticized us for not selling out our block of tickets. One time we played them at their site in basketball and were told before the game that our cheerleaders were not allowed on their floor. One time they called us to ask how many season tickets we had sold and laughed at us when we gave them the number...the beat goes on.

To add to Wardly's story, we had a Mean Green fan with us on the trip who was handicapped and in a wheelchair. The Marshall fans knocked him over onto the ground after the game. We had a police escort out of town with many of the locals hanging from the fences shooting us the bird, etc. It was a really scary trip. I was told later that they opened up the parking lot of the stadium at 8am for a 2pm kickoff, so everyone was pretty juiced up by 2. I went to use one of the porta potties during the game and walked on nothing but discarded beer cans from the stadium to the crapper..such a nice trip. The fans got into it with one of our players during the game and police were called into our section to restore order. Hopefully things have changed a great deal since 1988.

That's what makes our series with SMU so potentially advantageous for both schools...real fan turnout.

At least the body bags will be diamond encrusted for this one.

No game is a guaranteed win. We have a good chance of winning the SMU game, but it will be at their house and weird things always happen in college football.
