I got a memo from Dr Hurley's office in the late 80's that we were not to use Mean Green on stationary, or anything official from our office. He wanted Eagles..not Mean Green Eagles, not Mean Green, just Eagles...go figure his logic.

It is amusing that SMU has hoodwinked the ACC into thinking that they need the Highland Park market. Just as SMU jumps ship, the ACC ls listing or maybe even sinking with Fla.State and others planning a mutiny in the near future.

Great move, baseball. Al Hurley was the president and Fred McCain was the athletic director when the team was cut as a varsity sport. Hurley did not appreciate and help athletics much. It was primarily a Title IX compliance issue and men's soccer also took the hit ( now soccer is a women's sport, as you know). Perhaps more could have been done, but Hurley had already relegated football down to 1-AA. There was not much hope for income at the 1-AA level of football, so all suffered.

Most contracts include a certain number of tickets allocated for visiting team fans...sometimes it is a very small number, however.

I noticed that the football staff has been using the stylized eagle from the Hayden Fry era. It is also referred to as the flying worm. For those of you who don't know this, the art for this was created by North Texas alumns Rick Spears the second year that Hayden was here. Rick was a tremendous North Texas supporter, sports writer and went by greengrenade here on this board. I just wanted to give a shout out to Rick for his unique art that has been spotlighted again by recent coaches shirts and even on the throwback helmets. Rick passed away a few years and and I know is smiling on the recent ascention of NT athletics and their use of his artwork. Thanks Rick for your legacy.

Recent TCU success is the worst thing to happen to SMU...they seem emotionally addled by the Horned Frogs.

SMU always thinks that their problems can be solved by money. Will they ever learn that most of Dallas just does not like them and will not support them?

Just for the record, we sold out Fouts twice...maybe three times if you count the 1967 game vs. Tulsa.

Here is an idea. How about TCU use their real name...Texas Christian University instead of the mere letters. You know why, in this not offend anyone world they rarely use the full name of the school. SMU should do the same.
