  1. Here is what is needed to cure your blues about the green. Hire away a head football coach from an established program and do the same with the men's and women's basketball programs. This will take money and commitment, but it will be the only indicator that the NT administration is getting serious. We want to drive a Cadillac but don't want to pay for one. We constantly hear that we don't have the resources, but the reality is that when NT really wants to do something they find a way to find the money. Will this day ever come? Who knows. I concur that funding the existing programs very much a crap shoot with no winners thus far. The only way we will get the necessary funding is through 'venture capital' from the administration. A big, well planned and outlined objective will attract donors.
  2. I don't share the distain for South Alabama. These guys really get into your face and run a sound offense and defense. Don't count them out just yet. I cannot remember their depth situation, but that will be a factor. Point of fact....UNC Charlotte out of the SunBelt made it to the final game in the 70's ( As my poor memory serves me). The 49ers were a charter member of the SunBelt.
  3. They have five teams in the NCAA and another one or two in the NIT because their fans don't post 'Now we can get back to football', like has been said on this board. Just as a reminder, we need a balanced athletic department in order to ever rise above the conference mediocrity we now enjoy.
  4. I like Johnny, but I like my alma mater even more. This is pathetic. The largest university in the conference cannot even make it past the first round of the tournament....so sad.
  5. Just pitiful. Now what happens? Are there consequences for going out in the first round for two years in a row, coupled with an anemic out of conference schedule...we will see. Pohl sat and watched this mess all year.
  6. Giving the full story on Jamario would require some investigation and time spent....do you really expect sports writers to waste that energy when they could be out having a cold one with the boys?
  7. The collegiate licensing fee from North Texas is not any more expensive than many of the other universities. Once again, there is a perception that there is no interest....if the athletic marketing people would just work to make the licensing program work, you would see more and more products. That however, would require our athletic marketing people working hard, which is questionable.
  8. A fine young man who deserves a big future.
  9. JJ...good man, bad team.
  10. I have been thinking about the men's tournament in Murphreesboro and wanted your thoughts on our chances. If we lose big at South Alabama, I'd say slim to none. If we play the game close or win, I'd say that it could be anyone's tournament. All teams in the conference have beaten other teams in the conference, even Western Ky. However, this could turn into a Westery Ky. home game since it is not that far from WKU to Murphreesboro. Middle Tenn is not good enough to make it too far into the tournament, so WKU should have the home court advantage. While we have lost some big games to conference foes this season, it should be interesting to see how we do at a neutral site. I guess the tournament is WKU's to lose with a sleeper against them in the finals.
  11. What is the relevance of greenjoe's post as it applies to the lady's question?
  12. The media guide with the girl is from 1969. I always thought that she would have been sexier looking if they had air brushed out her sweaty armpit that has soiled her top. Sweat or not, it was a vanguard publication.
  13. I love trivia, and do not want to downplay the past, but isn't it sad that our programs are so down that we must go back to the past for any degree of pride? Perhaps I am overstating this, but we just aren't very good right now in any high profile sport. Ok, maybe women's bb.
  14. OK, let me get this straight, the school colors of UTA are red white and blue and the new logo is blue white and orange. Good gosh, and we thought our logo endeavor was a fiasco. When Arlington State got sucked into the Texas system they lost most of their alumni base when the system crammed Mavericks down their throats in place of Rebels that they had used for years. It should be interesting to see how the die hard red white and blue backers like going to orange. How many Texans were involved in this decision, I wonder. How many alumni of UTA were involved in this decision? I bet the number is 0.
  15. My sister and I both graduated from NT, while my cousin also did and another cousin got his Masters at NT.
  16. Here is a sad tidbit of trivia for you. If Jimmy Gales' 1988 team had not gone to the NCAA tournament, 'North Texas State' would never have been represented in the tournament ever. We now wonder if University of North Texas will ever make an appearance.
  17. Is it true that the 2005 DVD is sponsored by DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton? Just curious.
  18. Junior high basketball coaches can tell you that you put your center under the basketball when on offense, not almost up at the free throw line. This team had far too many poor passes, poor shots and some untimely turnovers. JJ is a wonderful person who I want to succeed, but the team is melting before our very eyes. I am frustrated. I do feel that next year's team might be good, but that is next year. There will be more beef in the middle and more height in the middle next...let's hope they plant themselves under the basket for a change. It should be interesting to see how this team does at the 'neutral site' of Murphreesboro in the SBC tournament. Everyone pray that we do not draw Middle Tennessee for our first opponent.
  19. Great post, Rick. Let me add a couple of things. The CLC rep who handles NT has an obligation to try to 'push' all the schools that he or she represents....they are not doing a good job of that. Secondly, the athletic department has an obligation to have a good rapport with their CLC rep....who knows if that is happening. I would periodically call the CLC rep and just shoot the bull, etc. to stay in touch and for NT to stay in his thinking. Human nature is such is that if you have a good rapport with a person you are more likely to help them. Suggestion...why not have the' North Texan'do an article on licensed products and asking all Exes to ask their local retailers to carry our stuff? the 'North Texan 'people might just do it since they want to strut around and show off what they did for a mere $200,000.
  20. If I were in charge of the SuperBowl halftime, I would book Florida A&M and Grambling Marching bands. That would be a show and it would have at least a football feel to it, not some bizaar glitter/glam/rock/country concert.
  21. If you can buy players and buy the media, why can't you buy your way onto list at a nice position on the list?
  22. An article in the Denton RC has Dickey quoted as saying that they are considering going to the shotgun this upcoming year if Wilson pans out. Interesting.
  23. Since Monroe, Louisiana was probably named for James Monroe (the sixth president), why not go with the Fightin Jimmys or the Presidents or Dueling Doctrines?
  24. Everyone who believes that SMU had an 18,600 average, please raise their silver spoon.
  25. As I have mentioned previously, winning is an ego extension. People with large egos and/or low self esteem will hang on to winners, no matter whether they have much real relationship to them. The poor souls who you saw probably fall into that catagory. They are attaching themselves to a winner, even though they themselves have precious little to do with UT.
