  1. Not only is Rick Shaw a great guy and great NT supporter, his restaurant ( La Fonda ) is a good place to eat in San Antonio.
  2. Great idea that would require a lot of work on the part of the athletic department, so................
  3. The basketball schedules at North Texas are a riddle wrapped up in an enigma....second only to Darrel Dickey recruiting methods.
  4. I second your emotion on Walter Chapman.
  5. As 'The Eagles' album states...Hell Freezes Over...that is when Henley will donate to the stadium. Believe me, he is no big fan of North Texas.
  6. Apparently we have changed our name to 'yet to be determined.'
  7. The best thing to do in Manhattan, Kansas is to leave Manhattan, Kansas. What a dump.
  8. Billy Packer is a classic example of when to know to hang it up. He is well over the hill. At sixty-two I can make such observations.
  9. If you are in a wet precinct ( and Fouts is ) and it is not an NCAA championship event, you can sell beer. Nevada Reno has done it for years, but has the good sense to cut it off at half time.
  10. Beer would be nice....I tried to get them to sell beer in the late 80's....thought Hurley would have a heart attack over the idea.
  11. Yep, just send money...don't ask questions about who we are playing or how many home games.
  12. Season ticket renewal notices have been sent...it would have been nice to have the schedule in front of you when renewing. As it is, it's just a pig in a poke as to who we play at home and how many home games there are.
  13. I have lived in Denton since 1966 and never heard of the Central Grill. Where is it?
  14. Recreation management means being a referee.
  15. SMU...out to prove you can lose in three different jerseys just as easy as two.
  16. Hey, it's a tournament that features some name teams....would you rather take on Cameron instead.
  17. I think this reflects how NT is floundering in the 'non revenue' sports area. Many of the schools got their points in tennis, golf, etc. We just were not successful in any sport in 2007-08. Sometime the truth hurts.
  18. We had a billboard for a number of years in the late 80's and early 90's. It was sponsored by First State Bank and the athletic department. We each paid half. It was only intended to establish market presence. It was located just as you crossed the bridge in Lewisville headed to Denton. Its effectiveness is undetermined. We liked the idea of having a market presence, however. Billboards could easily be done by co-oping with existing business who use billboards. This, of course, would require work by the promotions department of the athletic department and/or the university. Are they willing? Who knows.
  19. I have one of these helmets...I bought it a Walgreen's in Denton on University Drive last year. The clerk said that NT stuff that they carried sold well. By the way, the helmets are nicely done.
  20. Don't kid yourself...there is plenty of big money from North Texas alumni who would give if shown a logical, methodical plan to upgrade intercollegiate athletics. Our leadership lacks the expertise or ambition to do so. Our leadership is totally made up of graduates of other universities, with the exception of some on the board of regents. How much do you figure the leadership of the unversity donates back to the university? Precious little in comparison to their salaries, I would guess.
  21. Since we are tip toeing down memory lane, here is another little tid bit. In '68 the Sigma Nu fraternity printed bumper stickers that simply said MEAN GREEN and they did buttons with MEAN GREEN '68 on them. This was the first printed advertising for the football team at North Texas that I had ever seen. In '68 one of my fraternity brothers, Kerry Hubble, did the artwork for the cover of the media guide and it showed a big green football with MEAN GREEN '68 on it as well as a player about to catch a pass. The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity then printed bumper stickers with that art on it and gave them away to fans. In '68 there were big pep rallies outside of Men's gym before games. Also in '68 when we played Arkansas up there I did a banner that said Sooie Fooie Go Mean Green and proudly hung in on the stadium railing.
  22. Should be interesting to see all these 'rising stars' collide during the season. Last man standing is still rising, I suppose.
  23. Check in with Derrick Morgan at the Exes Center. His email is dmorgan@unt.edu.
  24. I'll have to wait and year and get back to you with that answer.
  25. Not overly impressed that her initial recruit will have to sit out a year before even putting on a Mean Green uniform.
