  1. OK, let's tell it like it is. TCU will play us sometimes both in football and basketball. TCU, while somewhat monied, never has orchestrated a player payoff scam to the scale of SMU. When we played TCU in Fort Worth, we were not under the gun to sell x number of tickets or face the threat of cancellation of the series. TCU has never asked us to sell x amount of reserved priced tickets and then gone out and given away thousands of tickets to Jack in the Box, etc. In 1984 the SMU ticket manager called us to ask how many season tickets we had sold...I told them around 500...the man laughed and told me they had sold over 3,000 or so and hung up. We have never banned a cheerleading squad from our basketball floor..SMU did just that when we visited Moody in the early 90's. When SMU returned the game in Denton the next year they had the distinction of being the only school whose cheer squad was banned from getting on our floor. Speaking of basketball, it is my understanding that the only holdout for a metroplex early season basketball tournament is SMU. UTA, UNT and TCU seem amiable to the idea. Maybe you are victims of haughty athletic administrators. Also, when we played SMU in Texas Stadium SMU would not sell us a big block of tickets so our fans could sit together...we were spread out throughout the stadium. We returned the favor when SMU came to Denton in '89..not more than 10 SMU tickets together in Fouts for that game. SMU fans cried and cried over that, but what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Quid pro quo. It doesn't have to be that way, but it was in the past. Just as our people seem to have a bit of a persecution complex, SMU seems to have a preoccupation with self engrandisement.
  2. Hire fund raisers who work for a living.
  3. Thin air can make any mediocre team look good if they are the home team and make good teams look bad if they are visiting. I'm glad Denver is leaving...too much of a home court advantage for the Pioneers. In real air they are average.
  4. I'm headed out to get a copy and will send the Star Telegram a letter thanking them for the coverage. Hope many of you do the same.
  5. Stephens is coaching an elementary school in North Carolina...they claim to bring 45 feet of heat.
  6. I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I want to point out that this event is sponsored by the DENTON CHAPTER OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. I will faint dead away when the alumni association housed in the alumni center does an event. Hats off to KRAM and NT1978 for their projects over the years. Is Denton the only functioning chapter of the alumni association?
  7. Eveyone who thinks a bunch of college professors will make any difference, please raise your hand.
  8. So, when exactly does Vito (or is it Veto?) enroll at SMU?
  9. Because we will continue our series with them and it is demeaning to have to play at that old dump, which gives UTA a strong home court advantage. There is not a recruit in America presently who has ever seen such an antiquated piece of #### that is Texas Hall.
  10. Rick, you would have been in Mean Green heaven at the old pit. If you were calm when you got there you were nervous wreck when you left. It was a terrible venue for the visitors and the accommodations for the fans were terrible. We loved it, however. The sign I did for the last home game at the old pit says it all...."Ain't a team come to Denton who can ever forget 'bout them three month nights in the nasty ole pit." It was featured on the sports on channel 11 that night.
  11. yep, spend $20,000 now or $2 million in the near future.
  12. Sadly for the ponies, North Texas State University, North Texas State College, North Texas State Teachers College, North Texas State Normal and North Texas Normal can all beat SMU. As many have mentioned in the past, a strong North Texas is very disturbing to SMU.
  13. Hope for UTA's sake that he is better than the genius we hired from UT back in '94.
  14. Was that an article or a resume? RV has done some good things, but if Hattiesburg comes calling, good luck to you Rick.
  15. I'm an old man who did not even notice the lack of passes....great game in the rain and true vindication for the team. Don't count out us old timers...it takes guts to get old.
  16. Instead of a classy shiny green, we have gone to a dull mung green...sorta the color of baby sh##.
  17. Worse things could happen to us than Plumm being AD...of course, there is always that 3% chance of final judgement, which could screw up Plumm's plans for UNT athletics.
  18. Man,I remember that Colorado State game in Denton...Joe Greene spent more time in the CSU backfield than their running backs did.
  19. I rest my case about our game being their NCAA playoff game. I cannot imagine us generating a t-shirt for our game next year vs. UTA. Our relationship with UTA is kinda like SMU's relationship with us.
  20. Seems to me that we have lost to UTA in the past and still had good seasons. We are UTA's NCAA playoff game. They were at home in their weird gym (which should have never been sanctioned for NCAA division I play) and had more experience...oddly, they even had a bit of a crowd. They will be very average when they move to a real basketball arena.
  21. The only thing UTSA brings to the table is their market...assuming that they have the San Antonio market...I think that UT pretty much has the San Antonio market.
  22. As I emailed RV over a year ago, there needs to be a student marketing group made up of representatives from Talons, NT 40, dorm reps, Greeks, etc. Let them loose and they'll get the kids to the games...just give them what they want, if practical. The kids know what the kids want as an incentive to come to the games. Of course, this takes time and organization....................
  23. We win...details to follow.
  24. Looks great....a good compliment to the Apogee coin that the Denton chapter did for football. Both will be great collector items.
