This was no knock on Tony...I just feel like he does not get the touches from his teammates to allow him to use his talents.

I get the feeling watching Tony that he is just a visitor on the team...just passing through Denton to some unknown destination.

With the shape we're in, this should be a close one.

This is the first time I have ever seen a basketball team run a 'prevent offense.' Benford would be better served to just shut up and let the team play. They are way overcoached during the game, which leads to indecision relative to shooting, which leads to missed baskets. These guys are just plain tired of the coach.

If you go with North Texas on one side and Mean Green on the other, then you might want to put 'see other side' disclaimers on the helmet.

I wonder if Benford will become our basketball version of Jerry Moore. As some may remember, Jerry Moore followed Hayden Fry to coach North Texas in the late 70's. Fry was using a pro set and Moore, who came off the Nebraska staff, was hell bent to run the power I. The result was disaster. We played .500 ball his first year and then crashed and burned. Hope Benford does not make the same mistake.

This whole thing is making me sick. I was so excited that I could finally tell people who we were playing and they would have heard of them. Now, we are back to some teams no one around here has even heard of or even gives a #hit about.

North Texas better have their heads on straight or we could see another game like last year. Time to solidify the rotation to eight players. UTA is not the game you want to keep experimenting with the roster.

Here is another dirty little secret....when you plan quality opponents at their place you are 10 points down when you step on the court. Another dirty little secret...Johnny's success was filled with cream puffs. We are not playing cream puffs to start the season. I just wish we could make our home attendance good enough to cause visitors to be down 10 points when they step on the floor. Calm down, it's still going to be a good solid year for us.

OK, new coach, players who have limited time playing together, top 20 opponent, one all-american, crowd bigger than five of our home crowds together...seems like an easy win to me. Man, our team must be bad. Maybe we can get a mere 20 wins this season.

With a full house of screaming fans, most visiting teams are ten points down just by virture of home court advantage...hopefully, we can quiet the crowd early.

Amusing that a frog would come on here, as their football team is crashing and they can look forward to another year of forgetable basketball.

Nothing from me but reverance for coach Royal. I know for a fact that he was a fan of Jamario Thomas and Patrick Cobbs.

Particularly satisfying to him was the fact we lost the game. His allegiances are suspect at best.

According to my sources, Middle Tennessee beat WKU on Nov.1st and Vanderbilt beat Kentucky on Nov.3.

So, let me get this straight. We want Denton businesses to support the athletic department and help put Dentonites in the stands, but we don't even give the hotel business to a Denton hotel...sounds logical to me.

Did you ever think that you would see us ranked ahead of Texas? Maybe back in the 60's we were a lot better than Texas, but it is nice to see us ahead of them now.

It's the first year with real talent that takes a toll on scheduling. The other schools all know we have a lot of talent. The problem is that we have not made the national splash that I think we will. Once we are ranked and make it to the big dance again, the other teams will be more likely to schedule us. They want their RPI up, just like all schools, and playing us will help them. It will not be such a disaster for them to lose to 'little ole North Texas' if we have good track record from this coming season. Of course, SMU, TCU will not play us, as they can't stand the stigma of losing to us in the metroplex scramble for attention.

Two thoughts. One, Denton is terribly weak in the general scheme of things in Austin, as it has little economic punch (just the way the old guard in Denton likes it). Two, people hired for their political connections should be replaced on a regular basis, as their connections are always shifting with the political winds. Jackson's connections may not even be in power anymore.

After many many years of trying to understand the lack of attendance at SMU home games, I finally realized why they do not draw well. The don't want to draw well....all SMU home athletic events are by invitation only and an rsvp is required.

I am an optimist that we might get six wins and be bowl eligible...does the Texas Southern win count toward the six wins needed?
