Nothing wrong with the 4-3. Like you quoted Mack, "players win games". The players just need to execute Mendoza's scheme correctly and win. And they don't need the offense and special teams throwing it away for them. In case anyone forgot, the defense had some clutch series in the 2nd half against SMU. They held SMU and gave the offense an opportunity to tie and win. They looked even better at FAU. OU & UA don't count in my book. Also, does TD really come across as arrogant to some folks? He seems to me like one of the least arrogant coaches around.

"The Strip" was an area of bars/clubs right next to campus. Great place for walking around and bar-hopping. At least it was in the '80s.

Just wait, you'll see. Mendoza will bring the Mean Green defense up to a level never before seen in Denton. I'm talking legendary enough to put his bronze statue in front of the new field. It won't be this year, but it will happen. It's part of the journey. No BS, I'm not fooling around. Mark my words!

I really hope something like this emerges after the Mean Green is dominating the conference, winning OOC, lighting up the stats pages, and otherwise making news. Other teams will want to share the spotlight. It will be their chance to prove themselves, on national TV, against the Sunbelt's finest featuring Dodge's legendary spread offense attack and Mendoza's impenetrable "Green Curtain" defense. A regular matchup with TCU would probably have the biggest potential for good attendance from both sides. A matchup with SMU would also be good if their program improves. How about Houston, Tulsa, or LA Tech? It's got to be a program that is consistently good in their conference. Both fan bases have to be motivated for the long term.

Is "The Strip" still the place to go party after the game? Lafayette is one of my favorite places. Wish I could go this weekend!

Thanks, this really made my day. One of the all-time great replies! I also appreciate the other replies. I'll try to get setup in the Orange lot for ULM. And I'll make sure to take care of other business before entering the stadium.

Are there "official" tailgate tents / parties that are open to the general public? If I park on campus and carry my own beer, snacks, and chairs, is there a cool place I can hang out during the pre-game?If I do number 2, is there a place I can leave my stuff during the game? Or do I need to take it back to my car before entering the stadium?I know, these are really stupic questions. Basically, I need the "Idiot's Guide to UNT Tailgating" for someone who isn't a Mean Green Club member and can't park in the Green, Blue, or Orange lots.

My thoughts exactly. Vizza appears to have tremendous potential, but I don't think we've seen enough to warrant a QB change at this point in the season. I'd have much less respect for TD if he changed starters right now. I think his players would to.

What, we've got a sockpuppet on GMG?

Whew!!! For a minute there, I thought y'all were talking about my wife. I didn't think she had anything to do with UNT athletics, but the rest of the description was right on.

Yes, I think it would be for special circumstances and trickeration. I haven't seen anyone here suggest that Riley would spend the entire game playing WR. That would be stupid. There have been a few threads where the possiblity of him playing some WR while backing up Vizza have been discussed. This came up when it was questioned whether he would be happy waiting until his junior year to start. I don't have the stats handy, but during his sophomore year at Southlake, he probably played an average of 8 - 12 snaps per game as a 5th wide receiver (in addition to QB rotation and mop-up). I'm not saying this would work at the D1 level or even the Sunbelt level, but it would be a way to use his talent and give him some playing time while he's waiting his turn behind Vizza. No, Riley isn't going to compete for the full-time WR slots. But UT did recruit him as an "athlete", not a QB. So they likely had WR duty in mind for him if they ended up not using him at QB. Here's how I see it playing out... 2008 - Meager starts, Vizza backup (or the other way around), Dodge redshirts *** 2009 - Vizza starts, Dodge backup & WR 2010 - Vizza starts, Dodge backup & WR 2011 - Dodge starts 2012 - Dodge starts
-
What didn't happen at SLC? Riley often played 5th WR during his sophomore year in addition to backing up Greg McElroy at QB. Some of his best highlights at WR were against Lufkin and Plano in the 2005 playoffs. Chase Daniel did the same thing during his sophomore year.
-
I know we aren't supposed to talk about irrrelevant highschool stuff, but that's exactly what he did at SLC. Riley played slot receiver during his sophomore year while backing up Greg McElroy at QB. He's got the speed and the hands. It also opens up alot of possibilities for trick plays.

Why is that? Bandwidth concerns?

Can anyone provide a chronology of UNT's conference memberships over the years? -
Time Warner Cable. It is high speed / broadband.

When I go to espn360.com, it says that my ISP doesn't carry it. What local ISPs carry it?
-
Yes, the KTXA 21 broadcast schedule shows it starting at 6PM.... http://cbs11tv.com/programming?siteId=4985...ource=TonightOn Nice!!!

I have to agree. Maybe we need to get Jenni Carlson from The Oklahoman to help George out with the tough questions.

Much of the SLC talk happens because, like it or not, that's where the new staff came from and that's the place we have to look for history. It's also where the next UNT QB recruit is making news. I'm really sorry that it gets on your nerves, but discussions about SLC are relevant. I can understand that it gets old and annoying if you were never interested in these coaches or SLC. But having people get up and tell the rest of the board what to talk about is also annoying.
-
Good point. I guess what I meant was that I doubt any fans can point out issues that TD isn't already aware of or make suggestions that he hasn't already considered.
-
Nice post KRAM1. Couldn't have said it better. I wish I could be there in person tonight, but I'll be listening on the radio. And I'll be waiting to hear someone with "stones" get up and call TD out for not doing anything about the defense. Somehow, I just got to believe that he and Mendoza have a better handle on the defensive problems than any fan.

Winless Ull Opens As 9 Point Vegas Favorite

I'm predicting an impressive defensive performance from UNT. -
I doubt any of the coaching staff is content with the defense. Just because they came from high school doesn't mean they are naive. Mendoza probably has a bad case of ulcers and high blood pressure right now. He's probably taking this harder than anyone else. My guess is that it's such a sore spot, TD doesn't want to openly criticize or call out the defensive problems yet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is what I want to see. But I wouldn't be too surprised if things play out like this. Obviously, at the D1 level, a great system alone won't win games. You must have the best talent available at each position, especially the field general. So I think Vizza will get the job if he can demonstrate that he's obviously better.
