🔥🔥🔥Official UNT vs Texas Tech IN-GAME DISCUSSION🚨🚨🚨
keith replied to Cooke County Kid's topic in Mean Green Football
That last play…🤮 -
WTH? Is @MeanGreenFB an automated X bot or is there really a human posting score updates on Twitter/X?
-
Ha. We’d probably hire some spare SMU alum, you know, ‘cuz Texas ties.
-
Paper bags maybe?

What's in a name? In terms of perception, a lot. We screwed the pooch back in 1990 (technically a little earlier) when we renamed our school and thought it was more important to drop state instead of north. TSU obviously didn't have the same nostalgic attachment to southwest. Fast forward 30+ years and TSU can lay claim to the entire state while we are relegated to a region of it. Strategic faux pas by our leadership at the time IMHO.

Maybe the PAC only took 4 from the MWC in order to leave the MWC intact as a conference at 8. Something tells me they didn't want to destroy the conference right out of the gate. They may end up doing that anyway as it looks east (but not too far east) to round out its membership. My guess is they would like the AFA, but may feel that the AAC has a better chance of pulling them in with the other service academies.

Is this a return game to Texas State? Did they play at ASU first?

Week 2 vs. SFA Predictions: Winner, Score, Attendance
keith replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Football
51-29 UNT. 21,111. -
We have a horrible helmet logo design. No one other than committed UNT fans would be able to pick it out of a line up. Oregon can get away with whatever it wants because, well, it's Oregon. We can't. We're forced to do some enlarged wing/tail feathers thing because SOW doesn't fit well on the side of a football helmet. UTSA has done a really nice job with their Roadrunner head. Perfect aspect ratio for a helmet.

Internet short hand on my part. Read it as, "It's only one game in, but looks like we may have made..." Rogers put up nice number, but was 5-5 as a starter. With our defense last year, not his fault, but the QB tends to get more of the credit and more of the blame on team W-L records. His 29 TDs to 5 INTs was great on 62.2% completions, but he was also sacked 33 times in those 10 games. Porous line or did he hold on to the ball too long trying to make a play? Rogers was very good in his one season here, but Morris may be even better. As @TIgreen01 said, both can be true and good for us. On Saturday, Morris went 32 for 41 (78% completion rate) for 415 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. No sacks and ran for 2 more TDs. Close to flawless and not much more you can ask for from your QB. By my untrained eye, he seemed to go through his reads/progressions quickly and had command of the offense from the first snap. Does it keep up for the season? Who knows? Maybe we're better all around and South Alabama really wasn't a 6 or 7 point favorite and it all showed up in the QB stats.

One game in, but we made a major upgrade at the QB position. Stupid accuracy with a quick release. We need him to stay healthy all season.
-
Early on it was a manufactured rivalry, by the conference (C-USA) and some media types. It was fake. Rivalries should develop organically over time. This one has and is good for the conference. However, doesn’t UTSA see Texas State as their main rival?

Signs, signs. Everywhere signs….
-
A legacy. Outstanding.
-
He's got some pop, I'll say that. If he insists on tackling above the waist, however, he's going to get trucked by bigger, heavier, faster receivers and running backs that have broken through.

Are we sure he wasn't talking about ACU? 🤪

Really nice (and thorough) preview. Thanks for posting.

Sources: UConn, Big 12 in early talks for potential membership
keith replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
The UCONN market (NYC, all of Connecticut, Boston, and the rest of New England) dwarfs the Memphis market. As we've seen lately, geographic footprint isn't what it used to be in terms of conference membership. As popular as the men's basketball program is in this area, the women's may be even more popular. They routinely play in front of standing room only crowds at Gample Pavilion on campus (capacity 9,882) and get crowds in the teens at XL Center (capacity 16,294) in Hartford. Football has been good in the past, so there's no reason they can't be good again. They beat Notre Dame in South Bend back in the day. -

Off topic, but not worthy of starting a new thread... Brett McMurphy makes early bowl and CFP predictions. Sorry if this was already posted/discussed elsewhere. https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/college-football-bowl-projections-predictions-brett-mcmurphy-week-0?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=BrettMcMurphy KMN! -

Exactly. It's not whether it's a possibility, it's whether you are even in the conversation. If a school gets enough mentions, then over time it becomes a foregone conclusion in the minds of many, that well, of course they are a candidate. Simple repetition causes that. Unfortunately for UNT we are never in the conversation even if it is just click-bait or Internet message board fodder. -
North Texas vs South Alabama Prediction Thread
keith replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
This is just sad and embarrassing, but this is where we are as a program right now. This is against a football team that played its first game ever in 2009 and transitioned to FBS in 2013. SMH. I don't think the untested South Alabama QB(s) have to do anything other than hand-off. We were gashed on the ground last year. If we can't stop the run, we're doomed. It's hard to win on the road to start the season and I think USA will be hyped up hosting a team from a supposedly stronger conference. As much as it pains me, USA - 38, UNT 21. Prove me wrong Mean Green.- 49 replies

I'm with you Deep. This looks like a stupid high school helmet. Do we really need an outline of the state of Texas? I mean do people not think that North Texas is in the state of Texas? Just ridiculous.

College Football Conferences Ranked - CBS Sports
keith replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Isn’t the PAC-? still a conference this year? I don’t know how they are going to determine a champion, but if either Oregon State or Washington State have a good year and win the “conference,” would either one be ranked higher and get the nod as the 5th highest ranked conference champion? Or has the PAC-? been declared ineligible for the playoff? -
"This year, by many projections, Nevarez’s league returns the most capable teams to challenge for that spot: Boise State, Air Force and UNLV. But there are plenty more, of course: Memphis and UTSA in the AAC; Liberty and Jacksonville State in Conference USA; Toledo and Miami (Ohio) in the MAC; and App State and Texas State in the Sun Belt." Just going to leave this here....it's mind-boggling the opportunities we've squandered through the years. It's definitely one of our core competencies.

Strength (or maybe safety) in numbers? I think once you get beyond a certain number you'd probably operate as two (or more) "conferences" within a larger virtual conference umbrella.
