  1. A head coach can only do so much, but he is the captain of the ship and sets the tone and priorities for the program. He owns the results we see in the field. We are small, slow and not very athletic. We lost a ton of talent to the portal. Not sure if that’s because we didn’t “recruit” the players we already had and chose to focus on local high school players that aren’t going to help this year. I’ve only watched future opponents FIU, LaTech and UTSA this year. FIU is going to be better than people think and UTSA is going to clobber stomp us.
  2. In that case, I’ll have what he’s having. Hahaha. During the second half I actually felt sorry for the commentators.
  3. How about after two halves? Did he look prepared to you? Did he make the right decisions? Did he put players in the right place to make plays? Were football fundamentals we displayed acceptable? Did he put us in a position to win?
  4. Have they published the coaching hot seat list yet?
  5. I touched on this when our schedule came out. We will get better as the season progresses, but it will be just in time for the strongest opponents. Don’t get your hopes up.
  6. Cal didn’t realize that they could have had this sort of schedule instead of the ACC. They might be rethinking their decision.
  7. Hey QQ, when does Cal start withering under the Texas heat?
  8. Please share your secret.
  9. 4 quick TDs and we are right back in this thing!
  10. It was just a matter of time.
  11. But, but…Texas. We are small and slow. At some point we need to get our heads out of our ass and realize that while there is a ton of football talent in Texas, we’re not getting it.
  12. We’re getting schooled by a bad team and the first half of our season is the easy half. Buckle up mean green fans. It may be a long season.
  13. Weird what happens when you wrap up the legs.
  14. It is nice. They did the same for TCU and SMU.
  15. I know P5 isn't necessarily a "thing" any more, but WSU and OSU are now the first two to be kicked out of the club and they are not likely to be the last. I think the biggest threat to the AAC and UNT in particular (and it's diminishing daily) is if WSU and OSU were somehow able to pull a rabbit out of the hat and reconstitute the PAC with some collection of schools from the MWC and AAC (or all of the MWC schools) and keep all the benefits and privileges that go along with it.
  16. SMU will now forever be known for two things: the death penalty and their parents paying the other kids to be nice and play with them. Sad and embarrassing at the same time.
  17. When North Carolina came out so strongly against expanding/adding these three, you knew how this was going to go down. They wanted everyone to know where they stood and that they were in the minority.
  18. 2011 win over B1G Indiana. Is that the only B1G team to play in Denton?
  19. I think it's shiv (both a noun and a verb)....a shank is something done on the golf course (unfortunately).
  20. From last year to this year, SDS lost more season tickets than we sell. Let that sink in. I wonder if that's a reflection of them flirting with the PAC-12 and not getting the invite. The whole PAC eventually collapsed, but that was after SDS withdrew their notice of intention to leave the MWC. The southern California market is a fickle one. Football obviously drives the boat, but they bring a basketball team that made it to the finals last year and solid all-around olympic sports. Their ~16,000 season tickets sold last year is almost 4x what we sell. They have experienced a significant drop off this year, but have still sold almost 2.5x our numbers. We have a long way to go on the season ticket front and are pretty much out of excuses for what it will take for significant improvement.
  21. Navy with the family. That's probably the only away game. Hope to make it down for at least one home game this year. Not football, but looks like the basketball team is going to be at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in December. I have that one circled on the calendar.
  22. Is there any more to this story? Seems like TCU is making this decision unilaterally. This is a long-standing annual matchup, there has to be more going on here.
  23. Assuming this happens, it's better than the PAC-4 raiding 4+ schools from the AAC. The AAC can recover from losing 1, losing 4 or more would hurt. Now, it's on to see what the PAC-2 can pull off or accept. With this part settled, we can move on. It's back to a 3-way tug-o-war between the AAC, MWC and PAC-2. If we had the ability to do what SMU is about to accomplish, we would and if we didn't, we'd be fools. Ultimately, these decisions are made by the presidents of the institutions and there is a lot more to conference membership than athletics maybe significantly more so in the eyes of the presidents. There is much more integration at the institutional level among conference members than simply playing each other in sports. This cannot be under estimated. UNT needs to continue elevating its academic status. ADs and staff call each other and talk, but only provide input to the decision-making process and are often out of the loop. Cal and to a lesser extend Stanford see themselves stronger together than they do apart. Together they "own" the bay area market and see that as a positive, not a negative. Sharing/controlling a market is a good thing in their view. Cal has major budget issues. They need the annual dollars coming in from media deals. If they are forgoing that for several years or taking a reduced distribution along with the increased costs, I don't know how they are going to manage. They will be taking a haircut and navigating the next few years will be a challenge. I have a friend significantly high up within Cal that's right in the middle of this. None of the previous points should be a surprise and isn't confidential. It's more confirmational than anything. What happens in year 8 (?) when SMU starts taking distributions from the conference? Will that money come out of the mouths of the other conference members?
  24. I like what he said about not waiting for someone else (*cough* Stanford and Cal *cough*) to do something and take control of their own destiny and it got me thinking. What if WSU and OSU got together without Stanford and Cal and worked hard to "rebuild" the PAC with the AAC or MWC and then down the line Cal realized they didn't have any other options and could not go the indy route that Stanford can and came back to ask WSU and OSU if they could be included? Could WSU and OSU (and the rest of the new PAC) say, "awww, bless your heart, thanks but no thanks." Could WSU and OSU rebuild the PAC and exclude Cal and Stanford or would those two be included by default because they are existing members? Would suck if WSU and OSU did all the heavy lifting and Cal benefited by doing nothing.
