Since there are a lot or moderators, perhaps a useful feature would be to indicate which moderator deleted/removed/hid a thread or for the moderator to message the the thread OP or the person with the post that caused the thread to be removed with the reason. That way people don't have to bother Harry all the time. -

I thought this thread (based on the title) was supposed to be about criticizing the coaching staff or if it's even permissible. The fire issue was a different thread. -
Careful now. Someone may get their feelings hurt.

As many have said in the past, compared to other schools, the jobs of AD and head football coach at UNT are probably the easiest in major college football as they are protected from criticism and not held accountable for performance.- 101 replies

Had to watch this on delay as I had previous commitments. Congrats players and coaches. I’ve always said a win on the road isn’t easy. This game confirms that. Great job team to march down the field and get the winning FG. Fun game to watch. Enjoy the week off and let’s take care of ACU before conference play.
-
It's probably more semantics or maybe airing it in public. I have no problem changing strategy, tactics, approach or game plan (which should change to some extent each week), but I don't think his vision for the program should change unless he now believes it's unattainable or not attainable in any reasonable timeframe. Wasn't it partly his articulated vision for the program that got him the job? If he's resetting it, what is it now?
-
OMFG. I wonder how that team meeting went? Did he come in and just say, "men, we've talked about my vision for this program from day one. We worked on it during spring ball, honed it during fall practice and have seen the results during our first two games. I'm here today to tell you to forget all that, we're gonna try something new."

Was Morris the Wrong Hire? (Spoiler.. We Don't Know)
keith replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
You realize this is due in part to the better conference dividend, right? It's simple table stakes to get a better class in The American than C-USA, better in C-USA than the Sun Belt (at least the old Sun Belt, haha), better in the Sun Belt than the Big West, etc.. It's the natural order of things. We should not compare our class to previous classes until we've been in the conference for a few years, but even then it's more relevant to compare ours against our conference mates. -
I think it's time we re-evaluate the boxes and how important they are. These are the same we've been after forever and it's gotten us jack-squat.

Noted and I'm old enough to remember how many on this board declared FIU to be "horrible" and pointed out that they were only able to eek out a 2-point victory over Maine who is currently 2-11 in its last 13 games. -

That's good because neither you or I or anyone on this board for that matter can burn the place down. That role is reserved for ADs and Coaches. -

There are 7 new head coaches in The American. Players and coaches are still learning and getting to know each other all over the league. Only 2 games in, but all of them, except one, has a win. -

It's fun to compare our current situation to other schools, but I'm not sure how relevant it is. I think most compare the current situation to our own recent history. It may be too early to tell, but there has already been a lot of foreshadowing and it's starting to look like a movie we've seen many, many times before. We are a fragile fanbase, so it only takes a small amount of poor performance to reinforce the "conventional wisdom" about our football program and destroy any interest or good will (no matter how small) that may have been established. On the flip side, we seem to require beating up on top-25 teams before people will even begin to take moderate interest. This next statement may be seen as hyperbole, but this game against LaTech may turn out to be the most important game in Morris' tenure (however long it turns out to be). He wins and looks convincing doing it and we might be able to generate some traction for the ACU game. He loses and/or looks unprepared or completely outmatched and the season is probably over and will sink our football program to depths that are still all too fresh in our memories. We will only sniff 20K for the homecoming game and will potentially lose a generation of students for the next 4 years or longer. For the sake of all things North Texas football, I hope he succeeds. I will admit, I was not a fan of the hire and I'm still not convinced he's the guy or whatever strategy he sold Mosely is the right one for the modern college football world. It was a massive gamble/risk, IMHO. In order to make that risk work taking, there needs to be to potential for high rewards. Let's hope Morris and Mosely hit it big for us as I don't think either one with get another chance if they don't. -

When is press conference this week
keith replied to ScreamingEaglesFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe. I don't know what value these press conferences bring anymore. Coaches seem to abhor them and rarely does any new information come out of them. There's always the chance a coach blows up or goes ape-sh!t on a reporter's question, but those are few and far between. This one (and most) are filled with a bunch of platitudes, but no real insight...we got to do better, we're working hard, this is our job, need to put players in position to make plays, got to figure this out...I wonder what the word could is on "need to figure it out" during this one. Also, as a self-professed history guy, it's odd that he doesn't want to talk about last year. -

Interesting and insightful. Thanks for sharing your observations. -
When did we introduce the diving eagle logo? I think that's when it all started to fall apart. We somehow created an athletic spirit mark, logo, whatever with an aspect ratio that just doesn't work on football helmets IMHO. It either has to be tilted slightly which makes it look wonky, minimized so it's barely recognizable or enlarged so we only show the tips of the wing and tail feathers. Or it's connected to UNT, North Texas or Mean Green so people know what it's for and frankly looks even worse. And for the love of God can we please not put the state of Texas on our helmets (with a miniature eagle BTW). It isn't necessary and looks high schoolish. It's not like we're Rutgers where no one knows where it is...it's in our name, North Texas.

I feel this is the wrong thinking Silver. All this has done is make it harder to justify the necessary salary increase for the next (and there is alway a next) head coach. Whether we like it or not, competent head football coaches make a boat load of money. Having a big number already in the budget will make it easier when negotiations begin. First, we will start with a better candidate pool. Second, we may be able to absorb another $500K to $1M bump, but a $1.5M to $2M bump may be harder to sell (at least for a school like UNT). So, in my mind, Morris taking less and Mosely agreeing to it may have tied our hands in the future.

It was never supposed to be a turnaround...that's the real point. We were supposed to go from 6-7 wins to 9-10 wins...from playing for a conference championship to winning a conference championship...from just going to bowl games to winning bowl games. All those goals seem like pipe dreams now. Heck, even where we were (building on a moderately successful foundation) seems like a pipe dream. We've gone full reverse. This coaching staff needs to figure it out soon or none of them are going to survive.

Assuming the owner bought tickets through the AD to the bowl game, it should be straight forward cross-reference ticket sales data to letterman from the era that sported the flying worm to narrow down the possible list of owners. Then just contact each one individually. Can't imagine it's a large number.

I noticed the same thing. At first I just thought it might be because it was a C-USA production or they just didn't know who he was to pick him out of the sideline crowd.
