  1. A&M did this exact thing vs. Arizona St. and it served them well. Kyle Allen got the hint that he needed to get his $#!^ together and did. It's time for McNulty to $#!^ or get off the pot. No more excuses. If he can't get the job done, then let's see if someone else can. I think both Big Mac and Lil' Mac understand this clearly so let's give the kid one more shot. What scares me is this feels eerily similar to last season. If McNulty is our best QB, then we're in for a long year. I tend to trust coaches evaluations and if he's the best we've got, well damn it Batman.
  2. All in all, a good night for C-USA. A good win over a solid UCF program, a win over an SEC school, and a toe to toe match vs. a top 25 Pac-12 team in which the Road Runners out gained Arizona by over 100 yards. Now we just need to take care of business when the time comes.
  3. From looking at his page on the SMU site and seeing his stats, this guy is more of a runner? I know Chad Morris had several designed QB runs when Tajh Boyd was at the helm at Clemson. Wondering if he's planning on doing the same thing and if we'll have a plan to counter that?
  4. Connor Means looks the part. Chumley looks unnatural in his mechanics. I know its hard to tell much from such a short clip but they may need to go ahead and move him to TE. Smith has a strong arm. Here's to hoping he's as athletic as his arm strength.
  5. It's a good point that I had never thought of, but having an extra week to start out does give DeMarcus Smith more time to earn the starting job for week one. I doubt he starts week one but I can almost promise he'll see action against the Ponies.
  6. At the end of the day, I don't care if the uniforms are green and titty pink, as long as we end up with more wins than losses.
  7. Overall, ehhh. Nothing flashy or spectacular. I do like the incorporation of black along with the black hats. Kind of a let down. The video had me all hyped for something fresh and new. Very much of the same ol', same 'ol really.
  8. Trying to figure out how they get away with something like this. "LSU is using highly touted incoming freshman basketball player Ben Simmons as the centerpiece of a 2015-16 season ticket promotional blitz that will include billboards and print and social media advertising. The "25 is Coming" campaign is such a blatant reference to Simmons' jersey number that the school didn't even bother to pretend otherwise in the release it sent out Wednesday." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/lsu-s-new-ad-campaign-shamelessly-promotes-top-recruit-ben-simmons-170257606.html
  9. I've been saying it for years and I will say it again. 8 team playoff with the P5 conference championship winners getting automatic bids and then taking three at large teams. This way you can keep the conference championship games, which would serve as a 'playoff game' anyways. It also gives a 'mid-major' from the non-P5's a chance to get in if they were undefeated and ranked high enough. I would prefer to still have a computer ranking system and you would take the 3 highest ranked teams remaining that didn't win a P5 conference. But, I would be OK with a selection committee picking the next 3 teams if thats what it took.
  10. And Yu Darvish will the Cy Young Award this season too. "Schools that might be interested in Golson include Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU and Texas."
  11. Given that USM has won 4 games and finished dead last in C-USA the last two seasons, I would say that current members have passed them by, at least temporarily. If ULL ends up joining, I'm assuming they slide into the west division with us, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, LaTech, & Southern Miss?
  12. "UAB and Southern Mississippi are the only remaining C-USA charter members that have never left." I wonder how this leaves Southern Miss feeling? They always wanted to "take it to the next level". I guess having winning seasons 14 years in a row and going bowling 10 out of 11 seasons gets you fired there (Jeff Bowers). Meanwhile, the rest of Conference USA, past and present, has passed them by. But its crazy to think there will only be one remaining charter member left.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of the quarterback and how they can change an offense. However, unlike most, I think we can win with McNulty. Do I think he is going to set the world on fire? Absolutely not. Do I wish we had better options on the table? Of course. But I do think he can manage the offense, play within the confines of the overall game plan (offensively and defensively), and allow other playmakers to do just that, make plays.
  14. Let's not overreact here. I think we all knew this was coming. Chico has made a living with quarterbacks with similar stat lines. And like many of you have mentioned, I think we will be better at the skilled positions than last year so McNulty will be surrounded with better talent. I think Wilson gives a huge, big play spark that we severely lacked a season ago and our receiving corp, while young, sounds like they are very talented. Lastly, lets not put this all at the feet of our quarterback. We had a rough season last year because we downgraded across the board, not just at quarterback. Our defense took a huge step back and our offensive line severely underachieved. With this schedule, we may only win 6 or 7 games at best, buy I truly believe will be much improved from a year ago. If anything else, knowing who will be under center to start this season gives this team a chance to focus on other areas and not focus strictly on one of 22 starters.
  15. The Courier-Journal "In a letter sent to WKU's faculty and staff, Ransdell added, "Specifically, the violations include hazing, underage alcohol consumption, and abuse, including engagement of perspective student athletes on recruiting visits to campus. Additionally, the investigations found that coaches were aware of this pervasive culture and failed to sufficiently eliminate inappropriate behavior within these teams."
  16. I haven't read every post but I have skimmed through a lot and have not seen mention of Baylor. If you want to look at how to run an athletic department and want see how a vision and a plan can turn into real results, look no further than Waco. Don't just look at what they've done with their football program but every program. Their football team was in the dumps and one of the worst in the nation. Hell, we kicked their ass by 38 points and ran the ball about 5 times the entire game. I know that was 12 years ago but its certainly not a lifetime ago. Their mens basketball team was nearly exterminated and now look at them. It starts with a mission statement and clearly stated goals. Where are we? Where do we want to be? How are going to get there? What steps will we to take to ensure these goals are met? How will we hold the decision makers accountable for actual results?
  17. I will concede the Georgia game not being that close. But we played a good game against Kansas State in '12 and were within striking distance most of the way. Take away the kick off return for a TD and you never know what would have happened. My point is mainly that I would rather play at Iowa and/or Tennessee than at LSU or Alabama. Tennessee will be better and they play great at home so yes, maybe it is a body bag game. But Iowa could be a winnable game for this program, especially with the team we had in 2013.
  18. 1) I don't know if I consider games at Iowa and at Tennessee 'body bag' games. While its unlikely we win these games, I certainly expect us to go in and compete at a high level like we did @ K-State in '12 and @ Georgia in '13. When I think of body bag games, I think of @LSU, @Alabama or @Texas of yesterdyears. 2) We need to quite complaining about the schedule being too damn tough. Its time to put up or shut up. We wanted out of the Sun Belt and into a better conference, so here you go. If we want to go to the next level and be a team that is a respected as a mid major program, then we have to beat good teams, plain and simple.3 3) Not having a bye week and playing 12 straight weeks sucks, especially for a team like us who lacks quality depth in case of injuries. 4) Only 5 home games sucks, especially when one is an FCS school from halfway across America. 5) I wish there was a way to not have all the in-state conference games all at home one season and then all away the next. Its great this year to have all three at home but it really hurts attendance next season.
  19. Given that WVU is the conference, I think they have to look east. BYU would be good but geographically, it doesn't make sense. They should have grabbed Louisville while they had the chance. Imagine the Big 12 in basketball had they grabbed them. I really think they should take a hard look at UCF. They have the largest student body in the country and average over 50,000/game in football. Cincinnati deserves a look but their football attendance is pretty meager (just under 32k/game last year). East Carolina to me makes better sense, at least for football. They are just as good if not better than Cincinnati but average close to 50k/game. If ECU came along, the Big 12 would have to make them change their helmets though. The pirate logo is very high schoolish. Louisville & Cincy would have tied in WVU geographically but that chance is long gone. To me, ECU and UCF are their best options.
  20. We covered vs. Nicholls St. Does that count?
  21. The folks in Vegas aren't taking too kind to our match up this weekend. We are 14 point dogs in this fight. I hate to ask the question, but do you think we can stick within two touchdowns Saturday? God help this message board if we don't. It sure wasn't a fun trip the last time we visited the Owls in Houston.
  22. I just think McCarney was being honest and that he is frustrated as hell. I don't think McCarney is one to make excuses. If he's not getting the job done, he'd be the first to admit it. The season is far from over and there a many winnable games left on the slate. The key factor that I want to see from this team and from this staff is, how do we finish? Do we continue to improve or do we digress? I want to see some grit and fight from these kids and I expect nothing less from a McCarney coached team. Oh, how the tide has turned so quickly among the Mean Green faithful. Let's all keep calm and see how the rest of the year turns out.
  23. Josh Greer is currently averaging 3.42/yards per attempt. You simply cannot win football games with a number like that. Plain and simple. I say this with hesitation but I cannot fathom how it could be worse with Dajon Williams behind center. On top of that mind numbing statistic, you can see that the raw talent between the two is night & day difference. Williams looks natural and comfortable while Greer looks stiff and confused. Williams' ball is tight and cuts through the air while Greer's wobbles and floats at the speed of a toss from my 4 year old. When Greer gets out of the pocket, he's running so hard (yet so slowly) that he literally cannot gather to the throw the football, while Williams easily gets past the chasing defender. I had high expectations for Greer and I wholeheartedly expected this coaching staff to make the right decision. But after watching Williams for the first time last night, I have to say, they've gotten it wrong. Maybe Williams doesn't perform his best in practice and I get that, but give the kid a chance on Saturdays. This offense cannot (fingers crossed) be worse off with him playing quarterback. From what I can tell, our receivers look pretty good but they have not had a chance to prove anything yet. God help us if Greer trots out vs. Nicholls State to start the game.
  24. I don't give two s#!+s if DW is playing against back ups. I see how athletic and fluid he looks and how his ball moves thru the air compared to Greer and it's a no brainer. This kid needs more playing time and Nicholls St is a great opponent to do it against.
