  1. Yes, it is true Smew and Teeseeyou both have highly inflated self images. Especially in the case of SMU, the "basketball greatness" train left the station decades ago. We at UTA at least understand our status as step-child, having dropped football and playing basketball in a ridiculously inadequate venue. Still, if TCU beats SMU tonight and if we happen to win in Fort Worth on December 17th, lots of people in Denton and Arlington will justifiably draw the obvious conclusion about the quality of basketball at the two little church schools.
  2. I like the passion. NT has great fans. It would be So Cool if you guys beat "Texas at Austin." Good luck!
  3. That's the way we feel too. You brought a great crowd. Racking up wins agains Northwestern New Mexico and other directional schools pales in comparison to how great you will feel if you ever beat Arlington. Good luck the rest of the year!
  4. Thanks for the kind words. I hope we get to play again next year. Is this really the 4th time in a row UTA has won against UNT?
  5. With five minutes remaining, we thought it was going to be an old fashioned butt kicking 20 point plus blowout, but UNT showed lots of heart to come back and make a close game of it at the end. Overall, it was a good defensive game, but I felt our guard play was better, and dare I say it - we had better depth. Wish we could play UNT every year, but we understand Mr Jones needs more cupcakes on his schedule. Good luck the rest of the year. Go Mavs!
  6. It's pretty early. I mean, UTA is even rated above UTEP.
  7. You should. After beating OSU, you should be very optimistic.
  8. Probably not much room for UNT fans behind the UTA bench, but there usually is plenty of room behind the visitor bench. That would be on the left, or South side of the bleachers as you look at them from across the court. I agree, the theater side is the worst place, so if the bleachers are full, the balcony is the best place. I don't think we have any bats, but otherwise, you should feel right at home.
  9. Thanks. It's never too late to inject a little class into the discussion.
  10. What utter BS. Obviously the only truth is that you have not been there since you got fired.
  11. You're right. I was confused. After a year, I remembered it backwards, as if you guys had a score disallowed. I agree, the big screen replay was unambiguous. The other thing I thought I remembered was that there was a bat flying around in the Super Pit. Was there?
  12. Yes, Stillwater. I stand corrected. (That was the darkest drive after we passed Oklahoma City last year.) No, there were no seniors on last year's team, so we did not lose anyone. But one of last year's freshmen, Reed was redshirted this year. Here's the account of the UALR game. http://utamavs.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/sp.../111807aac.html
  13. Doesn't make sense. You get SMU and we don't, while we get TCU and you don't. Of course, only a few programs have the guts to come to the stage. UNT, Wichita State, New Mexico State and San Diego are the biggest recent non-conference visitors. Usually, for us to play even a Sunbelt team, we have to ride the bus, like today at UALR. Hopefully that will change when we get our arena. It should happen within the next couple of years, as the companion project parking garage was just approved. Then maybe the likes of OSU, Ttech, TCU and Baylor will make regular visits to our campus. Until that happens, the stage at Texas Hall will be to us what "The Pit" used to be for NTSU- a hopefully hostile environment for visiting teams.
  14. Good move. I was there and it looked like the shot was in plenty of time. Maybe this year the game won't be so close.
  15. Yes Go_UTA, I'm all right. Thanks for asking. I must say, you are in rare form. I'm surprised you didn't mention the sharpened basoons in the orchestra pit. Truly, it would be suicidal for any Un-T players to run too close to the edge. I shudder to think about it! One good thing about Texas Hall, there are no glass doors in or around the locker rooms downstairs, so we should not have any players hurting themselves by putting their fists through the doors this time.
  16. Great win Wednesday over OSU! Maybe that will shorten the "Son of Sutton" era in Sweetwater. Your win, coupled with Sam Houston's defeat of Texas Tech made for a bad week in the BigXII. Next Wednesday, we're looking forward to seeing the Eagles at Texas Hall. Even though it's the day before Thanksgiving, there should be a nice-sized crowd. It's especially nice to host our near-metroplex neighbors. Wish you played more of our sports, like men's tennis and baseball. Likewise, it would be better if we played FB and had swimming. Good Luck!
  17. Actually, I'm sure NT would love to trade stadiums with Arlington. Fouts is about as good as it can ever get, while Maverick Stadium is a nice facility with the potential to be enlarged to a very nice Division 1 stadium. (Sorry, I had to get my digs in about Fouts, just like the UNT fans enjoy talking about our horrendous basketball venue, Texas Hall.) I went to the UTA football game last Saturday night and enjoyed it immensely. We had a good crowd of mostly students, plus a generous sprinkling of alumni and community fans. Paid attendance was around 1000. With the students who got in for free, it looked like 4-5000, pretty much what a "15,000" crowd looks like at SMU. We're playing in a semi-pro league against club teams that have been playing together for years, but it looks like the Mavericks will be pretty competitive. We won 43-6 against a team called "The Lake Country Blaze." Tomorrow night, we play at Pennington Field against the defending league champ "Ft. Worth Avengers," which could be a tougher matchup. It's at highway 183 and Central in Hurst. Game is at 7pm. Great entertainment for $2. See you there!
  18. That may be more accurate, but it was still an impressive turnout and a good win.
  19. What a load. Tire jacks? Dead Chickens? Brick walls? Gimme a break. You were a teacher? LOL. This sounds too much like a trip to SFA or McNeese, or maybe just a trip....UTA doesn't have rabid fans, more's the pity...we are not even allowed to sit behind visiting team's bench, have to leave our dead (and live) chickens at the door, and are required to keep our tire jacks in the trunk. You want to hide from the Mavericks? Sounds like the way SMU has treated North Texas over the years. Old Timer knows not whereof he speaks. Should revive a good old rivalry.
  20. I'm hearing the words "Burnt Red." Fortunately, it is not orange, nor is it maroon. Kind of a dark garnet. Maybe it will be used. It seems to have appeared on the official UTA Athletics website.
  21. Sorry you've been hurt. I've felt that way about the Nedderman decision for 21 years now. But the passive-aggressive bitterness really has no effect on the ones who killed football. It even makes them feel justified. They never expected you to go on campus, join any organization or contribute in any way. In fact, Nedderman and his cronies claimed that UTA students, alumni and community fans really didn't care enough to support a team. Were they wrong? I hope when the time comes, you'll show your support for bringing football back. The fact that you come across as angry makes me think maybe you care more than you're willing to admit. Maybe we'll see you at the games before too long!
  22. I like Green and Yellow, but I'm sure the thought of those colors for UNT makes you want to puke the same way some of us in Arlington would if the Mavericks started wearing even "trace amounts" of Orange. The problem is not artistic - it is that we are in the UT system. Any show of the mother ship's colors is indicative that UT Arlington is a mere satellite. Besides - UT San Antonio, UT El Paso and probably other UTs I don't even know about already have that Auburnesque set of colors. The AD has assured me that UT Arlington WILL NOT use the color orange in any of its athletic uniforms. As a former UTA athlete, I think I am not alone in having very strong negative feelings about the color orange.
  23. Nope. That approved fee increase will not go into effect until we get "athletics expansion" which is football and two women's sports. President Spaniolo thinks it's easier to raise $40 million for an arena than to raise $2 million for football. Also, I have a few points on which I differ with the previous UTA poster: Go_UTA is wrong on this point. The UT Board of Regents gave written approval in 1972 for UTA athletic teams to use Blue, White and Red. That from the lips of our AD, who would be surprised to hear that the UTA athletic department was allegedly unsupervised and disoriented. His opinion about the timing of "when football" is just that. (and everybody has one) It is more likely that the football push will begin as soon as the first shovel hits the dirt for the new arena. I can't tell you who said it, but he is a university official who should know. Spaniolo has committed to re-examine the question "within five years" of his decision of January, 2005. So sometime within the next 47 months, the issue will be raised. I talked to him myself, and in my opinion, the big question is whether or not he will settle for 1-AA. If he gets his arena (and Go_UTA was right about us being more than half way there, fundwise) I think Spaniolo will want us to go 1A. Won't that blue A look good on the helmets?
  24. Looks like a good schedule. At Lamar and at UTPA (rejected two years ago for SLC membership) is a bit of a surprise, as are the Division II games. One of these days, NT should play UTA. I think both schools would benefit, the same way TCU is gaining by playing us both. Anyway, good luck against Indiana and St. Bonaventure!
  25. Or maybe the "Commuter School" label is just an insult that needs to be forcefully rebutted. It may have been true a long, long, long time ago, but as of now it's just an out-of-date insult that UNT should not tolerate! Been there - done that at UTA. We get the same nonsense said by those who should know better - even our own locals. But with every new dorm, it seems to grow fainter and less often heard. Sometimes, clichés are hard to kill.
