  1. I couldn't believe some of the calls I saw! The refs were completely whistle happy. They made some bad calls that went our way too but not near as many as what you saw fall against us. It seemed like JJ new them pretty well too. I am floor level and he kept calling them by their first names. I guess that may not be that unusual. The Sun Belt monitors had to hate to see this game called the way it was. Man I wish I could see their reports, I've heard some of the stuff they say. They definitely won't have good things to say about these guys!!!
  2. Msan I remember those seats. YUCK! Yuknow, just about nothing else has changed in the Super Pit in 30 years. What was the significance of the pumpkin orang hats? Just basketballs! Lose them and get more green hair!!!
  3. Emmitt, care to jump in here??
  4. While reading this banter, which I think is good, I'd love to be able to look forward a couple years and be able to really understand how good our 2008 recruiting success was/is and add something a bit more meaningful. Can't do that so I'll be satisfied with waiting the 2-3 years and pull this thread back and laugh at what we thought we knew and what was really the case. Folks, we have a good recruiting class! At any rate, it is exciting to know we will have about 25 recruits that we can get to know, at least most of them, and watch perform as students and athletes. They will be ours to support, teach and learn from. I hope they turn in to alums or friends of UNT [like us] that care about the success of both the athletic program and the university. Go Mean Green and UNT!
  5. Good point! We have all said potential is what we want to find and turn in to kinetic when the kids/men hit the field. I have total trust TD will be far better than DD ever was to turn these recruits in to winners as individuals and team members. In addition, I hate putting any weight on Rivals stars or rankings. You can buy a star to add to any team if you are a Big 12 school and need the hype. Then there goes your ranking......up a couple nothces!
  6. Agreed, we are in better shape in recruiting than I've personally ever seen. Then you throw in TD's ability to pick the best kids, no matter what their ranking in Rivals or anywhere else is, because he knows them from playing against and coaching them we could have greatness in 1-2 years. Maybe 2-3?? Sorry for aiding in the hijacking of this thread. I need to say this somewhere, the basketball blog is probably better but, I was so impressed when I saw RV and Dr. Bataille get totally in to and in support of the game last night. They were on the floor acting as excited and nervous and in to the game as all of us. They were in front of the Pit Crew enjoying the stdetn interactions. Then the team came through single file and slapped hands of the Pit Crew and RV and GB. THAT WAS GREAT! I'v ebeen around a long time and this is GREAT!! RV has got to love this. Why go to a state where "no rules apply"?? Trust me on that staement, Iknow what I'm talking about!! Long live RV and UNT!
  7. You guys did a great job last night! Thanks for all the spirit and support. It definitely made the difference IMO. You could see it in the eyes of the players! Somebody in the Pit Crew had a white T-shirt on that had a green "Kermit the Frog" on it holding up the Claw with the caption something like, "It's easy being green" Where can I get one of those?? That is great!!
  8. I sure did, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!
  9. And you have to wonder just how the UNT recruiting possiblities will be treated in the future at Cedar Hill??
  10. $135,000 in Calfornia dollars is about the same as $100,000 Denton Texas dollars. I want the coaches to make as much as we can possibly pay them.
  11. That's all right. The important part is, he's probably not coming to UNT. We'd love to have him but if his last visit to UNT was December, he's not coming here.
  12. Then you can just wear a Mardi Gras bead necklace with a beer opener on it around your neck. That's wht I do!
  13. Gabe, I am in. The 10 spot doesn't bother me. I-35 North does bother me for that time of the day but I'll fight it for this!
  14. It is!! It is something that only, slightly, goes away if we happen to beat SMU, (or Baylor), win the SBC championship, go to a bowl game, make a respectable showing at a blood for money game, or see postings confirming we are building a stadium that will draw the interest to our program that we all want for it. BTW, good looking female avatars seem to help
  15. DG, can you provide some athletic budget numbers that show UNT is greatly under-supporting athletics? That's not a challenge, I'm just curious if we under-budget compared to other programs as bad as it sounds. Put the numbers here and let's revive some of the pressure that I'm sure has been on this board before I started posting.
  16. I watched that from the sidelines and couldn't quite believe it. It's almost as vivid in my mind as it is on that replay!!! I've been asked millions of times since, "What did you expect, you were in Austin?" I made it home with my program too and still have it. I take it out often and have flashbacks!
  17. So, when does the Rivals star fairy come out and re-rank players with more stars just because they signed with a bigger or more notable school? Is Riley a Rivals 3 star just because he is a verbal to UNT? Would he be a 4 star if had verbally committed and stayed with UT? It seems like in the past some stars have moved a little when players changed to a "fancier" school??? Just curious! The more I study Rivals.....the less I like it! It just seems to be a little straw poll'ish to me. You buy stars and rankings but points go a lot further in winning football games.
  18. Stars and chip ratings certainlyhelpyou increase your percentages of realizing success. Solid prospects need to meet solid coaches. I believe some of the highly touted players missed because of the coaching staff. I am pleasantly impressed with the quality of football knowledge, moral strength and solid role model qualities our coaching staff currently exhibits. Coach Dodge will turn some of the 1-2 star offensiveplayers in to heros. DeLoach will do the same on the defensive side. Just don't forget the coach factor in moving a kid from a prospect to payload! Go Coaches! GMG!
  19. Never mind! I guess with age goes more than just some minor faculties. I can't count either!!
  20. Thanks for the link! I'm curious about the count. See the quote: "Dodge also confirmed that UNT has a full allotment of 25 scholarships to give in its recruiting class, leaving the Mean Green just one scholarship to give after the addition of defensive end Alonzo Horton, a junior college defensive end from Northwest Mississippi C.C." I didn't think Rivals was showing 23 or now 24 committs now with Horton. Where are the other scholarships going?
  21. I do want to win in Fouts now, before we move to Disney on the Golf Course
  22. Don't get me wrong, I love to count the stars. But when they step on the field the stars go away and we see how all the players do. I really like some of the lower "star" profiles. In that group you are likely to find a kid that has a lot more drive, because they have been working hard, less is given to them. We are in good shape. Great AD, great coaches, great kids, great fans!!
  23. With a new stadium the whole ticket committment will be a shuffle!
  24. I have never seen this level of excitement and strong recruiting in all my years with UNT. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself, but...I have to keep telling myself these recruits will pay off better in 2009 then they will this year. (Don't read this part DallasGreen, I want to win in 2008 too!) But, 2009 is going to be one heck of a year!!! With Hillary managing healthcare, I hope I can still afford my season tickets in 2009! Go Mean Green!!
  25. That's OK. I'm glad you were wrong and you are too!! I've N E V E R been wrong! But then again, how do you know Mendoza didn't actually leave on his own.....like you said???! I wish him well. Anyway, that seems all behind us and I bet you won't even be able to count fast enough to keep up with season ticket sales!
