  1. Latest Directors Cup rankings came out and UNT comes in at #141. It's easy to say the list is flawed (because it is), but it does tell a story. I would love to see UNT compete nationally, even if initially in only a few sports. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2012-13/misc_non_event/june14DIstandings.pdf
  2. If we believe the Dallas Morning News (and why wouldn't we, as it is the preeminient unbiased bastion of sports journalism in all the land that and shows no signs of being hit by massively falling revenues and being overtaken by other more credible on-line sources, right?) UNT class = A&M class = Tech class (Tech and class in same sentence?) Baylor + TCU, which > A&M Texas = OU SMU worse than all of the above Just don't understand their lack of consistency in ratings. And Texas, which ESPN states is the 3rd best in the country got an A-. ????
  3. Yes, but you can't sue your neighbor for moving to a better neighborhood wihout a bully either.
  4. you are still playing FF with Brett? That's awesome. Tell him I said hello.

    That onside kick was amazing.

You have to be thrilled with hnew stadium.

  5. Here I log ito this thread looking fr some Aggie love and I only get SMU hate. COme on campbell, pony up the love, errr, I mean . . . well never mind.
  6. As the biggest Mean Green loving Aggie, I was a bit disappointed with the outcome tonight. Brighter days lay ahead. Always though McCarney (sp?) was a great coach at ISU. Not uncommon for guys to struggle first year in. But I really think he can coach ver the long haul. Wish the best for you guys.
  7. Heard the same rumor but I heard that the Dallas Cowboys and the Steelers were joining as well. I have no doubt that Texas has alternative plans, whether they be independent or Big 10 or Pac10 or whatever (maybe the Big 12 adds UH and Texas State so they can play Fran again) but . . . Do you really think the elite teams would be lining up to join forces with a school that has chased off Arkansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas A&M? There would be a credibility / stability issue like none other. And frankly, what would Alabama and Florida get out of that? They play elite teams most every week anyway. Michigan is so entrenched in the Big 10 it is not even funny. Yeah, Texas stands a lot to gain from this, but the others gain what? A chance to say they can hang out with Texas? A National conference is the last concern I have right now. The 16 team WAC that stretched from Florida to Hawaii or whatever it did was an epic failure. While the teams in your post may be more elite it would fail for the same reasons - - difficult road game travel for fans, excessive non-revenue sports cost (imagaine flying the USC volleyball two times zones out every week and get back to me), and lack of natural rivalries. This idea was conjured up in fun at shaggybevo and people are running with it. It makes no sense whatsoever.
  8. AGreed, TCU is a reach. But they don't belong in the Big East.
  9. One Aggie's Opinion: The concensus among the Aggie faithful is that the Big 12 is no longer a premiere conference. In the NCAA you are either growing or shrinking, and the Big 12 is shrinking. The downfall of the SWC began with Arkansas' departure and likewise, you don't lose a Nebraska and a Colorado in the same year and say that all is well. Clearly, the SEC is the premiere sports league in football. Likewise, the Big 10 has an unbelievable history, academics, and prestige. Larry Scott has brought the Pac10/12 to the forefront with innovation, expansion, and leadership. Beebe is the antithesis of a leader. He is a Longhorn puppet. The whole conference is a front for Texas. And the mass of members don't have clout to pursue other options. Baylor / Iowa State have no room to tell Texas to f off. Oklahoma seems to be hesitatnt to react. But Mizzou, A&M, and Tech have all had words / actions speaking against the LHN. Look, no real conference has unequal revenue sharing. But the Big 12 was set up to be the MLB and the Longhorns signed up to be the Yankees. What's wrong with the Longhorn Network you ask? Well a better question would be why would you have a Longhorn Network instead of a BIg 12 network? I could give you a 1000 reasons why it is a bad idea. But to me it is like when free agency first appeared in baseball. It will now be a mad rush and the richer will only get richer. But just imagine you had to play a national telecast with announcers chosen by your opponent (contractually obliged to be approved by Texas or they are fired)? And imagine that Texas is the one that gets paid for games on that network, not the conference? Now imagine that Texas could broadcast HS games. The counter that "we get all the recruits we want" does not make it right. I loved the argument that "hey I get all my recruits before September anyway. . . " from Mack Brown. Which is why they are planning to televise the state;s top JUNIOR in their first game. Coincidence? The president of the LHN said in an interview that they were indeed intentionally televising Texas recruits and they would go out of state to do so. It is a clear NCAA violation. You can't even put a recruit's name on a bigscreen but now you can pay his high school money, televise his game on your network, and have hand-picked announcers talk about what a great fit said recruit will be for Mack and how great the Longhorn staff is blah blah blah. So that's a long way of saying the Aggies are tired of the Longhorns pushing their weight around (something Michigan does not do in teh Big 10 nor Alabama in the SEC). Thus, we want out. The Big 12 has become a joke and watching Beebe reminds me of Brownie leading the FEMA effort. I could care less if we play Texas again. Like most Aggies, I realize the SEC is a whole level of competition higher, but it is worth it. Besides, road games at Tennessee and Georgi and Florida, etc >>> beat Ames, Manhattan, and Lubbock. Now, would love the NEW SWC if that could happen UNT UH Rice SMU TCU Baylor Southwest Texas Tulsa La Tech or somesuch. Personally, I would love to see that.
  10. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2010-11/misc_non_event/finald12011.pdf A bit surprised. La Tech finished 230, which also surprised me. A few points of interest 1. Stanford (no surprise due to their mens synchronized swimming and transgendered bowling titles) 2. Ohio State 8. Texas A&M 10. OU 12. Texas 35. Baylor 37. BYU (highest non-BCS member) 38. Princeton 48. Texas Tech 52. Tulsa 53. TCU 54. Denver 62. smu 81. Iona 103. Middle Tenn St 104. Houston 135. Washington State (lowest BCS conf school I think?) 192. Rice 222. UNT 234. UAB 230. La Tech 279. Lamar
  11. After Saturday's Regional event And three Regionals in the books Mario has the event record for 2011 in the following tests: 40 yard dash Timed at 4.54 sec. 20 yard split timed at 2.60 sec. Standing Broad Jump measured at 10 feet. Check out his combine video at the link below: anyone wanting to work out with bob, his email is rmkneip05 at verizon dot net
  12. 4.62 is what I was told, but that should improve. My friend (the trainer) has nothing but great things to say about him.
  13. Friend of mine is training Super Mario in preps for NFL draft. Here is his NFL Day video: Not sure if this has been posted thus far.
  14. maybe Dodge figured he would go pro after next season anyway, so the redshirt would have been a moot point.
  15. Fran did not have severe integrity issues. He was just outdone by Stoops and Mack Brown. He could never straighten out the defense, and he lost control of the team. In many ways, I think Fran would do better in a Sun Belt where the pressure is a little lighter and where his gimmicks will not be outdone by the opponents sheer talent. UNT may be perfect for Fran and vice versa. Hard to say.
  16. where are the official race results?
  17. my 9 year old ran. Finished in 24 minutes - - not bad for only his second 5k. I couldn't make it, but sounded like a good event.
  18. sighting rather. late night
  19. http://straightcashhomey.net/page/11 random I know.
  20. I just thought it was funny that they had actual facts to debate. In some ways, the 7 year-old has more wisdom than a few on this board. There was no flame intended whatsoever. You guys should be elated that two kids (not from a UNT family) are discussing Mean Green football as a dinner time conversation. * * * * * * * By the way, I was at the game Saturday. I thought UNT looked very much like my Aggies. Can move the ball, but can rarely stop anyone. Special teams miscues every game. Get behind every game but keep on fighting. Just an observation. FYI: poster was at Giovannis in Argyle on 377.
  21. actual dinner conversation from my two boys after seeing a UNT poster at the local pizza joint. 7 year-old: I thought there coach was Mark Dodge? 9 year-old: He was the linebacker for A&M 7 year-old: So it's Todd Dodge? 9 year-old: Yeah. And he is doing horrible. 7 year-old: Well, it's only his second year. He had to change the offense to pass a bunch and it takes a long time to do that. You should give him more time. 9 year-old: Thats what you get for passing. It just means you have more turnovers.
  22. per google earth: Dallas to College Station 188 miles Dallas to Norman 188 miles Dallas to Austin 196 miles
  23. I am not sure the blue-haired ladies in Highland Park lose sleep about an invasion coming in from Denton. College sports will continue to lose coverage in the local media as long as more pro teams are invented. Dallas is a tough market. Cowboys are king. Mavs. Rangers. Stars. Desperados. HS football. TCU. SMU. Big 12 schools (A&M, Texas, OU, etc all within three hours). North Texas is just hard to squeeze in. I cancelled the DMN because it became irrelevant to me. If I want national news I pick up a New York Times or a Wal Street Journal. If I want sports, I read the internet. I actually scan dmn.com most everyday, but mainly for local news. The sports to me there is average now. In the late 80s / early 90s when newspaper still reigned supreme, DMN was one if not the best. As far as local news goes, I stopped watching that twenty years ago.
