  1. Why is NO Bowl projected to go back down to $750,00 for the SunBelt in 2005? Because it moved?
  2. I don't know, considering some AtM was getting a couple of Top 25 votes, and we had a chance to win the game, I feel pretty good about our team. Sure I'd like THEM to be getting some votes for the Top 25, but if we keep playing like that, we'll definitly start winning some. Way to go guys! I turned it on when it was 52-50 and I was shocked.
  3. Mean Green Report? Might have it already, but that's what I got for Valentine's day last year, and I love it.
  4. Welcome to the board! Sorry, I don' t have a picture, but it sure was fun! What are your views on the following issues: Coach Dickey? Tortillas? Should we get a new stadium or new conference first if given the choice? and How do you feel about the new logo? GMG!!!
  5. so excited when I heard the end of this one, and knew that we beat SMU. I don't know if they're any good, but the way we beat them sure makes it seem like we might have a shot this year.
  6. I wouldn't say it's a sad day for UNT athletics. I'd say it's been a bad year for UNT athletics. Should he, as an adult (not to mention employee) been able to control his anger? Absolutely! But does he, as a huge UNT fan, not have the right to get upset with someone, that he thinks, is being less than appreciative of the coaches and players? I'm one of those that will Boo the refs all game long, but I won't boo the players and coaches, and I don't have NEARLY as much invested in the program than Dunham. He goes to ALL of the games, talks FREQUENTLY with the coaches and players, gets beat up on the air for being such a UNT homer. I'd say he was probably VERY frustrated with the way the season had gone, and took exception to someone he felt was treating the players and coaches unfairly, and let his anger get the best of him. Especially at the last game of the season, wehn there weren't a bunch of people around to applaud the team and thank them for being the Mean Green. I'm sure Patrick Cobbs and the rest of the seniors appreciate their team and coach being Boo'd at. Sure he should control himself, and I commend you for not charging after him like certain coaches, but he DOES have the right to fired up for the program. We all do. I guess we all just show it differently. By the way, Welcome to the Board. I hope this incident at the end of a bad year, won't keep you from coming around. We really need all the fans we can get, especially those that are TRUE fans.
  7. If he has the permission to do it, then isn't it someone else's responsibility to come up with the cash. Don't tell him he can do something, but then say "Really you'll have to come to the Board to see if we can afford that". That's not really permission at all. I'd go out and find somebody to pay $500k to be the coach of our baseball team and then see what happens. (By the way, I don't have any expereince with baseball, but I am willing to learn. RV? Can you hear me? Is this thing on? Call me.)
  8. Sounds to me like now RV can go out and hire new coaches and pay them $500k without getting approval. Too bad it's not for football but I think it sounds like a good idea. Especially if you consider that some of our coaches will be Cherry picked from time to time and we may have to move pretty quickly to get a quality coach in. Being able to offer up to $500k sounds good compared to $125k.
  9. I saw that, but what does "Hot" mean?
  10. So does a player in red mean that they're really good? They're really interested in UNT? Both? Just trying to contain some of my excitement on a couple of these guys.
  11. I liked this quote from RV “You need to give the athletes at NT the same that they have at Texas Tech, LSU [Louisiana State University] or USC [university of Southern California],” Villarreal said. “It wasn’t a matter of building a bunch of new stuff because we didn’t like the old stuff. We built a bunch of new stuff because we didn’t have any to begin with.” Nice to see he wants us to be at that level. GMG!!!
  12. Nice to hear they're all out recruiting.
  13. UNT program direction up for discussion Dickey, Villarreal to meet in coming days to talk about disappointing season, future of team 07:16 AM CST on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle North Texas athletic Rick Villarreal and head coach Darrell Dickey will meet in the coming days to discuss what both described as a disappointing season and the direction of the program, Villarreal said Monday. UNT came into the season off a fourth straight Sun Belt Conference title and was picked to win the league again in the preseason coaches' poll. The Mean Green failed to live up to expectations and finished 2-9 after dropping their last six games. UNT lost five games in conference play by a total of 21 points, including a season-ending 31-24 loss to Arkansas State on Saturday. "There are concerns I have about areas with the program that I want to discuss with Coach Dickey in the next week so that we can keep this football program at a level that allows us to be respected across the country," Villarreal said. "This season was a big disappointment to him, the players and the fans. I want to make sure we are on the same page as to the reasons why that happened and how we can avoid that happening again." Geoff Anderson / For the DRC Darrell Dickey has been head coach at North Texas since 1998. Dickey also expressed disappointment in the outcome of the season and indicated that that he would address concerns he had about the program in the coming weeks. The majority of the Mean Green's coaching staff left Denton on Monday morning to recruit. "Right now I am in the process of evaluating everything," Dickey said. "I think that we need to remember that this coaching staff was the same one that won four conference championships. They didn't become bad coaches overnight because we lost some close games. With that said, we have to evaluate all of our strengths and weaknesses. I have to evaluate myself and recruit players that we can count on." UNT examines QB situation UNT is considering pursuing a junior college quarterback to join a crowded race for the starting job in the 2006 season that could include Joey Byerly. Redshirt freshman Daniel Meager started every game this season for the Mean Green and split time with freshman Matt Phillips, who came off the bench to rally UNT in several games. "We will consider recruiting a junior college quarterback if we can find an older guy that fits our offense and we think can come in here and compete for the starting job," Dickey said. "We are still going to have our top two quarterbacks who will be sophomores next year. Recruiting a junior college quarterback is a possibility, but it isn't something we are obsessed with because we feel good about the progress our two guys made." At this point last season, Byerly appeared as if he was on his way to being the Mean Green's starter in 2005. The former West Orange Stark standout backed up Scott Hall as a redshirt freshman and was expected to compete with Meager for the starting job. Byerly lost that opportunity when he was ruled academically ineligible during the summer. The loss of Byerly forced UNT to enter the season without a quarterback who had taken a snap in a college game. UNT finished last in the Sun Belt in passing offense with an average of129 yards a game. Meager led UNT with 941 yards passing on the season. "We are looking at his situation," Dickey said of Byerly. "He was supposed to be getting his grades in order at another school so that he could get back into school at North Texas in the spring. At that point we would find out what his plan is to get his academics in order so that he can compete next year." UNT to have extra time in recruiting UNT's coaching staff will face a different set of circumstances during the next few weeks than it has in the previous four years when the Mean Green were preparing to play in the New Orleans Bowl. The change will have an effect both on UNT's recruiting efforts and its preparation for next season. Playing in the New Orleans Bowl gave UNT's coaches several extra days of work with its younger players and an added draw in recruiting. "From the practice standpoint it hurts," Dickey said of not playing in a bowl. "We got 12-15 extra practices in. We have taken time to work out some extra guys." The lone benefit will be the extra time UNT's coaches have to focus on the Mean Green's recruiting efforts. "In recruiting it evens out," Dickey said. "All of our coaches are out on the road now, but it's easier to go out and sell that you are going to a bowl game."
  14. My wife and I get season tickets, and this year we also got something in the mail telling us that we could get those seats. We didn't because we still sit on the student side, but maybe next year.
  15. Here are my thoughts on this:..........after Reading this it may sound random, but I know what I mean. If you're one of the 100 or so schools that has no shot at a National Title game in any given year, then you are talking about being in a mediocre bowl game at best. Now to the top 5% that are only concerned with the Title, then who cares what everyone else is doing. I'd be the same way. But, if you're one of the other 95% then you DO care what mediocre Bowl game you go to, and how that'll help you financially, with publicity and with recruiting. And I'd say we care what bowl game the people in our conference are going to because it makes us look better to have good representation, and at the same time, we hate that they may have an edge in recruiting because of it. The majority care how they do and how others do because that's how you compare your team/school.
  16. Unless you're North Texas, I think is what he meant.
  17. Happy Thanksgiving Mean Green Nation!!!
  18. Bobo Posts Double-Double In 84-64 Victory Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 11/22/2005 Courtesy: Rick Yeatts DENTON (11/22/05) – Senior Erika Bobo recorded her fourth career double-double to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to an 84-64 victory against Southern Arkansas on Tuesday night in the Super Pit. The Mean Green (2-0) won its second straight game, while Southern Arkansas dropped to 2-2. “I was pleased with the way we were able to come out tonight,” said head coach Tina Slinker. “Erika (Bobo) and Mian (Williams) really stepped up when we needed them. We still have a lot to work on. We need to convert our free throws when given the opportunities.” For the second straight game, North Texas jumped out early and was able to hold off the Muleriders in the second half. The Mean Green was successful in getting the ball inside and forcing Southern Arkansas to commit the fouls. “We knew they (Southern Arkansas) were going to be a physical team and that we had to get to the line,” said Bobo. “Getting to the line is the solution, especially if we are not scoring.” The Mean Green made only 13 field goals in the second half but was again successful at the line. NT set a school record for free-throw attempts, hitting 31-of-51 from the line. In addition to last game’s 31 made free throws, the last time the Mean Green attempted or made that many was on November 18, 2000 against Central Florida when the team was 36-for-45 from the free-throw line. For the first time in her career, Bobo posted a double-double in back-to-back games. She recorded 19 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and made a career-high seven steals. The senior was one of four Mean Green players in double figures. Mian Williams followed with 12, including seven points in the second half. Williams led the team at the free-throw line, hitting 6-of-7 attempts. The Mean Green quickly extended its 41-33 halftime lead to double digits and always had an answer when the Muleriders threatened a comeback. After a three-pointer by Sharonda Davis cut the NT lead to eight, 62-54, with 9:37 left in the game, the Mean Green squad responded with a 20-8 run to extend the lead to 20. All fourteen players saw action, including Amber Jackson who led the bench with 10 points and eight rebounds. Tricia Lee came in at the point guard position and posted seven points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of action. “I thought Tricia and Amber really made an impact for us tonight,” said Slinker. “They both have a bright future ahead of them.” North Texas takes to the road, competing in the New Hampshire Tournament on November 26 and 27th. The Mean Green plays Boston College on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 pm.
  19. Don't forget the free beer at the Budweiser tent. He can listen to Beerman and drink, that's a HUGE plus for a 13 year old.
  20. There's a little blurb in the DMN under North Texas that says he's interested in a job according to Dickey.
  21. Nice write up on our team. Hope we can come out with a good showing against them. With football having an off year, it'd be nice to have another sport get us some headlines. Girls soccer helped, but basketball has a much larger draw.
  22. I tried the following with no success: password spirit meeting meangreensports stadium green What could it be that would make it so "private"? Perhaps a "private" donor?
  23. If Cobbs and Thomas can't go, could we see the freshman Robertson? I don't think he's played all year, so he might be able to keep his Redhirt. How much can you play before you burn the redshirt?
