We need a new AD. I know this is nothing new to this board, but we all need to be saying it. I've liked RV. We have turned a MAJOR corner in terms of facilities with him here. It's impossible to say whether we would have achieved the same thing (or more?) with anyone else, but the facts show we've seen improvements. He has made some extremely bad hires in the most visible of college sports, and has been unable to build any kind of momentum after those facilities were completed. In any kind of organization you sometime need someone to take you from one level to another. Their roles are suited for those short term jobs. I see RV as someone who came in and saw a bad situation that could be made better. He did get the University to allow Tailgating, and he helped institute some school pride with students, the crown jewel being the new stadium. These are organizational and planning jobs. The hiring of coaches hasn't gone as well. He was suited for taking us from an abysmal situation to a better situation but doesn't have either the skills or mindset to help the University take the next step. We need a fresh set of eyes and enthusiasm to come in and make those next level changes. This person will be optimistic with the resources available, and not still view the school/alumni through the same set of eyes that sees only apathy. RV is like that first car you buy when you get your first real job. It's decent, it takes you to work and allows you to change your financial situation for the better as you change jobs for more money and a better life. Eventually you look at the car and think "this doesn't represent where I currently am in life. I can afford better, and if I want to keep improving my situation I need something that shows my success better". That old car isn't bad it's just not the one to take you on to the next level. RV can't help but see the negative and frustrations he's experienced with this University. He knows the potential but can't communicate that in a different way than he has for the last several decades. The people are tired of hearing the same old lines from the same old people. Even if a new person comes on and says the same thing in a different way, it'll still be new and different. It's time for change.

Great job ladies! I know UNLV didn't invite us out there so they could lose their own tournament. Ha! That's what you get!
-
If we could shoot free throws this game would be completely different. So frustrating. So basic.

The Ladies beat UTEP in 3 straight sets last night, improving to 21 wins for the season. With a loss by Eice earlier in the day the girls locked up the #3 Seed for the tournament. I went to this game and the One against TCU last weekend and I've got to say the crowds were great (sell out vs TCU) and the Band is hilarious. Sad that I didn't discover how fun they could be until the very end of the season, but I'm already looking forward to next year.

I read that with a win Saturday night, UNT could lock up the #3 seed (someone else has to lose) in the CUSA Tournament. They really seem to be hitting their stride at the right time. Go Mean Green!

So...you're saying I could join the Rice Fan Club for $50 but I have to pay $125 for ours? Isn't our product that much better?

Official Rice Game Score Prediction Thread

UNT - 14 Rice - 35 -
Worst I've felt about the program in a while. There are 117 schools that play at this level, and we're pretty consistently toward the bottom. I'm tired of excuses. It's the commuter school. It's the alumni. It's the geographic location. It's the history of the program. It's where we recruit. This University has to go out and say we want a Top 25 program. I've never heard them say anything close. If the University doesn't have that as a goal then what the hell are we playing this sport for????? I'll throw basketball in there as well. We do not have the mentality at the leadership level and it trickles down to every student, alumni, local Denton resident, local business, etc. They have a mindset of being competitive in our conference. That's it. CUSA is better than Sun Belt but we've still set our eyes on mediocrity. I'm ranting and I don't care.

Ok, I have NO explanation for that one

Just watched TCU beat OU remembering in 2002 (I think) when we played them so close. They stopped playing body bag games, scheduled weaker opponents and got wins in conference. I know financially that's hard to do, but that's got to be the blue print. You need several years of going 10-2 or 11-1. People start paying attention. The problem with last year, and all the Dickey years for that matter, is that we followed up bowl games with the next years OOC losses which disappoint the fans and convince the casual fan that we're still just an average team. All those years TCU was playing weaker opponents and racking up wins, people would say "yeah but they didn't play anyone". Recruits and casual alumni fans don't care when the stadium is electric and the tailgate is awesome.

Our D should be fine if the offense can put together decent drives and keep them off the field for a while. The LaTech game was stupid. Was it 8 or 9 straight 3 and outs?

Williams, Mean Green took advantage of bye

Weird feeling we may sneak out of there with a win. Having verbalized my positive thoughts, we'll probably get blown out. Way to go, me. -
Apogee striving for ultimate fan experience
Mad Hatter replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Love the idea of increasing wifi for game day. In the world of social media, folks want to be posting pictures of themselves at the game, while it's happening, not waiting until after they get home. It would help create a sense of excitement and hopefully make others feel bad for missing out.- 29 replies

Inside Higher Ed: "Empty Seats, Fewer Donors Later?"
Mad Hatter replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
I graduated in 2000. My wife, several fraternity brothers with their spouses and friends, were big into tailgating during the Dickey years and start of Dodge. Then we all started having kids at a time where the product was bad. Now that we're improving again we're all running around to soccer, volleyball, etc for our kids. I think it's awesome that we have the games on tv because I love watching them (recording many to watch later). I hate seeing the stands empty but know that I'm part of the problem. Some day our lives will settle and we'll be back. I guess there will be several of those "waves" of fans over time, we just don't have as many older, die hard alumni to fill the stands currently. Getting the students to buy in, and know how much fun it can be, WILL keep them coming back, even if it's in a wave over time. We're on the right track, it just sucks that athletics was neglected so long.- 62 replies

LaTech tied with 1AA NW St at 27 with 1 minute left
Mad Hatter replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
We beat Rice last year and they won the conference. We can still do well and make a run at this thing. La Tech was just one (horrible) game and we've made adjustments. -

Official Louisiana Tech Game Score Thread
Mad Hatter replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Give me...........Liberty or give me Death. I love our defense so far. NT - 23 LaTech - 10 Was it the Dodge era where we had trouble making Field Goals? Makes all the difference to be able to play the Field Position game and still get points. -
He and RB Evans are both from my high school, Woodrow Wilson in Dallas. Love to see him having success!

Saw them using the green Pom-Pom things. Thought it must have been sorority girls. Kind of wish they hadn't worn white because it was hard to tell who they belonged to at first, and when I rewatched the game last night, they were hard to see on TV. Glad they came to the game.
