Mmmmmmm.... shot of Jack & a pint of Shiner. Is it too early to head out to the Fouts parking lot?

Love the Dickey Ball coefficient and the reasoning. The X-factor will be me and my friends yelling our lungs out. NT by 10.

George Dunham commented that he thought Jamario seemed maybe a step slower than usual; goes along with the hamstring thing. Cobbs was tearing the MUTS up on the ground, and was our leading receiver. Jamario had a better per-carry average, but I think Cobbs was more consistent. It did seem like we should have run Jamario outside more than we did.

Actually he is usually pretty positive about the Mean Green. He's just hammering this board for some reason. I can't believe it took as long as it did for someone to post it on here and get everybody worked up.

MTSU once again proves to be sexy on paper but loses to the Mean Green. You guys do have a good team, I think. For the first time it seems that you have a good defense. Please go beat Akron. The sun belt is getting its ass kicked so far.

Maybe in the MGR or if anyone else has that info. Wondering who all played and didn't play. One name I never heard called was Willie Ransom. Also curiously absent for 2/3 of the game, and perhaps related to Willie not being called, was a pass rush....

Sun Belt Game of the Week Saturday, September 10 North Texas (0-0) at Middle Tennessee (0-1) Why to watch: While Troy will have a lot to say about the matter, the North Texas - MTSU game will go a long way to deciding the Sun Belt title. North Texas had to wait a week to get on the field after its opening week game against LSU was postponed, and now it looks to push its impressive streak of Sun Belt wins to 26. MTSU has always wanted to be a player in the Sun Belt race, but never has been. This might be head coach Andy McCollum's best team yet, and he can get rid of a lot of the pressure with a win. Why North Texas might win: This is a one-dimensional Blue Raider team that'll look to throw first, throw second, and think about running as a third option. It's not that MTSU doesn't want to run, it simply can't do it. It might not be fair to use last week's 26-7 loss to Alabama as a indicator, but the Blue Raiders were only able to manage 157 yards of total offense and had a hard time moving the ball by air or by land. If the UNT running game can get into high gear, it should keep the MTSU offense from getting into any sort of a rhythm. Why MTSU might win: One of UNT's biggest weaknesses coming into the season is the secondary needing to break in some brand new safeties and in search of a shutdown cover-corner. With Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas, North Texas will look to grind it out with the ground game, but if MTSU plays like it did last week holding Alabama to 133 yards, that might be a problem. Who to watch: So who's going to step up and make the big play for the MTSU offense this season now that WR Kerry Wright is gone? Cleannod Saintil caught five passes for 64 yards against Alabama last week, but no one was able to come up with a really big game-changing play to help out QB Clint Marks. North Texas knows it can run, but it has to keep defenses at least a little bit honest with the passing game. Redshirt freshman Daniel Meagher takes over by default after projected starter Joel Byerly had off-the-field issue. Meagher has good upside, but he's green and has a nasty first game to get used to D-I football. What will happen: The streak will end. North Texas will get its yards on the ground, but the Blue Raider defense will do just enough to keep the Mean Green offense off the field. MTSU QB Clint Marks will have a big day with the new starting Mean Green front four having a hard time getting to him. North Texas usually takes a few weeks to get warmed up. This time, it'll be costly. CFN Prediction: MTSU 24 ... North Texas 20 ... Line: MTSU -4

Really?? Sweet!!

And while we're at it, maybe they have an experienced QB that we can recruit away from them. Thanks, but I'd rather go back to 1AA than take Tulane's spot under these circumstances.

OK, Mr. Boldtext..... You're entitled to your opinion on TJ Raymond's eligibility issues. But WTF is this supposed to mean?
-
Yes.

Harsh is right. What if your son or daughter fails a grade? How would you feel if someone posted stuff on the internet saying we should kick them out of school and quit wasting taxpayer dollars? Give the guy a break. Unless you saw him skipping class and going to happy hour, it's not really fair.

We definitely need an answer, but I'm still skeptical of biodiesel. Yeah, you can make it by growing crops, but you have to look at the NET energy that is "harvestable." I made that word up because you can't PRODUCE energy. One of Newton's Laws, if I recall.... Energy cannot be created or destroyed. If you have to burn 10 gallons of petroleum gas to make 10.1 gallons of biodiesel, it's not going to save the planet. I'm not just talking about the tractor that the farmer uses... consider the energy used in processing, transport, to treat the water used to irrigate, make the fertilizer, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Our best defense this year will be our offense. Should make for some high-scoring nailbiters. We'll see what The Buick is made of next week at MT. Here's hoping it's a Grand National with the boost cranked up, and not your granny's LeSabre.

That's what Pat Robertson thinks.
-
DT=Deep Trouble, which is what our defense is in.

A coach who leads his team out of the tunnel wielding an axe and pumping up the crowd deserves some damn credit.

I'm sure the logistics just wouldn't work, but here's an idea: Get McNeese or somebody to come up here for a game. Instead of selling tickets, admission is free with donations to the Red Cross encouraged. Cover the opponent's travel expenses out of the kitty maybe.

DRC LB Monroe returns to NT practice NT considers
pollock replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
While this may be a great move, shouldn't it have been made at the start of fall practice, or maybe even in the spring. Seems a little late now. Isn't that a fairly difficult adjustment for the defense? Is this something they've been working on and we just haven't heard much about it? BTW, good to have Monroe back. I think he is underrated on this board. -
I'm not a 70's guy (well, maybe I am, since I was born then), but I believe Khoury is the girl's soccer coach at Denton High. Seems like they are always in the playoffs.

Absolutely well said. As for getting a great QB recruit in here with a run-based offense, I pretty much agree that it is a self-sustaining issue for us. But it's also a which-comes-first-chicken-or-egg issue too..... if we do happen to get a great passer, surely our offense would adapt to make the most of his talents.

No Mable, NT is NOT a one-sport school
pollock replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I read the article about her on meangreensports.com, and these were some of her stats: "2.70 points per game, tied for seventh in NCAA history, and 1.11 goals per game, which is tied for eighth in NCAA history. " I guess I know even less about soccer than I thought. What the heck is the difference between a point an a goal? -
For all NT fans going to Baton Rouge.....
pollock replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Man, you sound like one of us.... Our QBs have never taken a college snap, our depth on the OL is questionable, two of our cornerbacks are under 5'8", most of our DL has never played together, and our coach runs a draw on 3rd and 20. We'll probably start about 3 freshmen the first game. On the upside, we are loaded at RB, WR, and LB. -
I bet you'll think of something.
