  1. WESTERN CONFERENCE BIG The first one is out because it clashes with North. Don't want to have two regions in the same league. The second one is out because we aren't competitive enough to be in a CONFERENCE. We're in the SUNBELT for god's sake. The third one is a joke right. If not then it should be. Even if it were the LITTLE 12, NT doesn't belong in that category. Name a team in the the 12, who we could compete with an a regular basis, IN ANY SPORT.
  2. By John McFarland The Associated Press Ryan Leaf's eyes are bloodshot, and his hair is matted down at the end of a 17-hour workday. The new quarterbacks coach at West Texas A&M sets aside his Styrofoam tobacco spit cup and pauses to check the upcoming schedule. It'll be another long day all right, with practice, meetings and plenty of time stuck in his cramped office. Leaf estimates he spends at least 70 hours a week in his new job - all for no paycheck. Yes, this hard-working volunteer coach is the same Ryan Leaf who was supposed to take the NFL by storm but instead just stormed around. The same guy who was taken second in the 1998 draft, behind only Peyton Manning, then retired after four seasons best remembered for dreadful play, injuries and clashes with coaches, teammates, reporters and fans. So, how exactly did he end up at WT, at a campus much closer to Amarillo than the Rose Bowl or NFL stardom? And what's he doing teaching kids? MORE
  3. And people say that Texas takes football too seriously. Teenagers to serve time - after football

  5. Area top 100 honorable mentions Reader Scott asked below about players that just missed the cut on the area top 100 list. We've told you about Woodrow Wilson LB Jack Hlavaty and the Carter trio. Some others we'll keep a close eye on: Birdville WR Jason Martinson (reminds me of North Texas star Johnny Quinn) Cedar Hill WR Dezmon Briscoe (offer from Boise State and interest from SMU, TCU and Tulsa) Mansfield Summit RB Stephen Johnston (check out below post) Keller QB Cal Farley (second-leading returning area 5A passer despite missing two games) Southlake Carroll DE Kyle Russo, CB Arius Ford, WR/CB Anthony Ford and LB Justin Padron. We try to make the list reflect players' recruiting stock, not our opinions of their talent. That's why you'll see players shoot up and down the list. The last 20 spots, in particular, will have a lot of turnover from now until signing day. Posted by Tim MacMahon at 10:07 AM (E-mail this entry) | Comments (0)
  6. If if's and buts were CANDY AND NUTS we would all have a Merry F'n Christmas. It happened, it sucked but it was 18 years ago. $hit Happens, Life's a bitch and UT is always going to have more money than GOD.
  7. Rick V, I'm sure many of these comments were directed at me because of many of my previous post. I know you are not just sitting back, drawing a paycheck, I applaud you for staying in contact with the fanbase and letting us know what is in the works. Brett Tulloss
  8. Patriots Today video The catch and run TD is at the 3:21 mark.
  9. Former Beaumont Kelly Catholic point guard J. Covan Brown ended much speculation and enrolled in Port Arthur Memorial High School. After two years former Beaumont Kelly Catholic point guard has amassed quite a reputation to go along with his two TAPPS 6A state championships. The 6-3, 190 pound Brown is the No. 1 rated junior in the state according to Mike Kunstadt’s Texas Hoops. He’s considering Duke, UT, Baylor, LSU and A&M. We need to get in on this guy before he goes somewhere else and then decides to transfer because of playing time.
  10. I'm not questioning the suspension, but the infractions only took place less than 24 hours ago. This is the weekend. I don't know how many Universitys are open for business at 2 a.m. Saturday Morning. If any of this is true, then they should be suspended. I'm just wondering how the reporter got an official comment from the president, who is the only one who could throw them out of school at a moments notice, at that time of night. I also don't see any comment from the coach, who would be the one to throw them off the team.
  11. Pegram was a sixth round draft pick of the Falcons the same year they drafted Brett Favre.

  14. According to the practice schedule from media day. The whole team practices at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. There is an 8 a.m. practice on Sunday.
  15. Shippensburg Football Player Dies By Associated Press SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A Shippensburg University football player died after becoming ill while running sprints during practice Tuesday, the university said. Vince Bernardo, 17, a freshman from Flourtown, Pa., was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. at Chambersburg Hospital, a little over an hour after getting sick, the university said. Bernardo, a 6-foot-2, 270-pound offensive lineman from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, was among 106 football players participating in the early morning workout at Robb Sports Complex, the first official drill of the season. The university said he was running 110-yard sprints when he started to struggle with the conditioning drills about 19 minutes into the workout. After starting to breathe deeply, Bernardo tried but was unable to finish the drill, the school said. A trainer found him alert and responsive, but the school said he was taken to the training facility, where his condition worsened and an ambulance was called. Trainers and other university emergency and safety personnel were administering CPR when the ambulance arrived, the school said. "The campus community, especially members of the Red Raiders football team, are deeply saddened by the death today of Vince Bernardo," said Jody Harpster, the school president. "He was well-liked by his teammates, and our coaches expected him to be an important part of the team. His friends said he was excited about being on the team and had trained hard during the summer to play football at the collegiate level." Coach Rocky Rees said the coaches and players were devastated. "He was very much a part of our family," he said. Bernardo's high school coach, John Staudenmayer, said: "He was the kind of kid that you want your son to grow up to be."
  16. Silver, Shawn looked incredible at media day. I spoke with him and he says he's 90-95 percent. Said he thinks the speed is good and the only thing he's waiting on is the first hit. I think he can help in the LB rotation. He's not big enough for the DL.

  18. At media day during Dickey's address to the media, he said that Patton informed the coaching staff that he was enrolling in another college. If he wants to play football then it must be a JUCO because his letter of intent prohibites him from playing for a four year school. And if he's going to a four-year school NT could keep him of the field for two years by refusing to release him from his letter of intent.
  19. I noticed you forgot to put the No. of Big 12 titles he led Texas to. I believe it was ZERO!!!
