  1. Tic Vanilla and his helmet hair could also recruit, but he couldn't coach a lick. I'm not calling JJ another Tic Vanilla, but he hasn't gotten out of the first round of the tournament since his first year and that was with Tic Vanilla's players. It's time to WIN!!!
  2. Dodge hires UNT staff-- Approached West to gauge interest By Staff and Wire Reports DENTON, Texas - Todd Dodge's new staff at North Texas looks a lot like his old one at Southlake Carroll High. The first-year coach, who made the rare jump from high school to Division I-A, announced the hiring of nine assistant coaches Thursday. Four are coming from high school programs, including three of his former assistants at Southlake Carroll. Offensive coordinator Todd Ford and defensive coordinator Ron Mendoza held the same jobs under Dodge at Southlake Carroll. Robert Drake, another former Southlake Carroll assistant, will coach special teams and defensive tackles. Clayton George, a former Mean Green wide receiver, comes back to the school as a receivers coach. He spent the past three seasons as head coach at Dallas Hillcrest High. The other assistants are Spencer Leftwich, offensive line; Shelton Gandy, running backs; Chuck Petersen, safeties; Derek Lewis, defensive ends; and Butch LaCroix, cornerbacks. Three days after Dodge was hired by UNT, he called Brenham High School athletic director and head football coach Glen West and informally asked about his interest in a coaching position at UNT or Southlake Carroll. “Honestly, he and I visited for several hours on three different occasions,” West said. “We're very good friends and we walked away from the conversation knowing Brenham is the best place for me. He knew that going in, he just wanted to make sure I knew there were some other opportunities available. “We're just really good friends and we talked things over and I have no interest in going to the college ranks.”Dodge's son, Riley, is the quarterback at Southlake Carroll. Next season will be his senior year. West was also contacted informally about his potential interest in Flower Mound Marcus' coaching vacancy, but West expressed no interest in that position. Dodge will be in Brenham this week for home visits. West said Dodge has expressed interest in several members of this year's senior class, which already has six players committed to Division I programs. The Cubs have recently had three players competing in all-star games, as senior quarterback Jarrett Lee, a Louisiana State commit, played in the Rivals 100 all-star game, and Texas commits Brandon Collins and Ahmard Howard each played in the Max Emfinger all-star game in Orlando, Fla. Collins made six catches, including a touchdown pass, and Howard had a sack. Lee jammed his fingers while blocking on a reverse in the Rivals 100 all-star game, but is all right and was playing for the Cub basketball team Tuesday.

  4. Arkansas offers Allen QB/ Owls rejuvenate recruiting/stablize staff Arkansas offered Allen QB Nathan Dick a scholarship in an effort to bolster its roster after losing transferring QB Mitch Mustain. Dick, a prized early Rice commit, was visiting Rice this weekend. As new Owls coach David Baliff tries to stabilize the program and maintain recruiting in the wake of the sudden departure of former coach Todd Graham, who left for Tulsa a few days after he'd signed a contract extension. Dick could join his brother Casey, who was a part-time sophomore starter for the Hogs last year and the Owls now look like a longshot. New Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe (from Tulsa) also is offering Dick. Rice getting a re-commitment from Dick would be a major boost, but now seem unlikely with an Arkansas offer. Dick also is being eyed by Houston and may get a late offer from Arkansas. The Owls are coming off a first bowl season in 46 years. Baliff comes from Texas State and looks as if he'll keep three of the Owls' staff to keep build on the enthusiasm from the winning season and get over the loss of Graham. Former Irving MacArthur coach David Beaty, Todd Dilbeck (former president of the Oklahoma high school coaching association) and former Kansas State player Mike Smith seemed destined to stay on staff.

  6. Email Eric Capper, He's the Asst. AD in charge of Media. ecapper@unt.edu
  7. I don't think anybody saying fire JJ or Tina before the season ends, but if they continue to fold as they are currently doing, Don't Wait to examine the situation, FIRE THEIR A$$E$ the day after the last game. Now saying that, hope we win both tonight!
  8. If Coach Dodge watches any other game, he'll move Woody to DB, WR or RB. One game does not a college QB make. I hope Todge (thanks Zeke) throws open all the starting positions and lets Spring & Fall practice decide who plays and who doesn't.

  11. So there will be Two Dicks and one Nutt in Fayetville. Isn't that backwards?
  12. 72-0 in his first year. And your point. How bad did NT lose to Tulsa in Dickey's eigth year?
  13. that means he gets credit for Adrian Awasome as well.
  14. I had feeling you knew nothing about footbasll, this just just proves it. It was Parker's team with Mitch Maher at QB, Luis Silva at TE and Troy Redwine at WR tha laid the ground work for Matt Simon winning the SLC in his first year. Simon did not recruit a player who was on that championship team. Parker hired a young, inovative QB & RB coach named Todd Dodge to tutor Maher, who is an NT hall of famer. Did Parker make mistakes? YES. Did he deserve to be fired after three years? I don't believe so. Did he call his AD, Craig Helwig, on a lot of Stuff? YES. Was he the greatest coach in NT history? NO. Was he replaced by the worst football coach at UNT? I would say HELL YES. Matt Simon did more to destroy the football program at NT then all of the coaches before him combined. I realize that you said in your opinion, but it is evident you know nothing about the history of NT football.
  15. Kenny didn't recruit DFW while he was at NT. That POS QB coach Ramone Flannigan did. Evans recruited Oklahoma, you know where we got Kevin Galbreath and Patrick Cobbs, and JUCOs, where we got Michael Pruitt from. Coach Evans recruited about 60 players on this year's squad, including Super Jamario. He's a great judge of talent and would have been an asset if he was kept. But he was to closely associated with DD.
  16. I don't know which I find funnier. That quote or your new avatar.
  17. Former UNT coach Parker delays hiring at Porter for TLC interview Former University of North Texas football coach Dennis Parker was hired Thursday at Brownsville Porter, but is waiting a few days to accept to interview at Texas Lutheran. The longtime coach comes to Porter after coaching in Mesa, Arizona the past three seasons. Among the Texas stops for Parker include head-coaching positions at San Antonio Edison, Marshall High and Cleburne. Parker served as athletic director at Keller ISD and Ector County ISD, which included Odessa Permian. Brownsville Rivera also hired one-time Texas, A&M and OU assistant Jim Nelms. 21. Dickey will still get UNT settlement A few North Texas fans have been wondering what impact former head coach Darrell Dickey taking a job as offensive coordinator at Utah State will have on his settlement with UNT. University spokesperson Deborah Leliaert said Tuesday that Dickey accepting a new coaching position would not impact his buyout of $524,167 for the remainder of his contract at UNT.
