  1. http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...5.1845b3e2.html Football: Euless Trinity tight end commits to UNT Sources: Lewis leaves coaching staff 07:25 AM CST on Thursday, January 25, 2007 By Brett Vito / Staff Writer Euless Trinity tight end Jordan Scoggins got to know Todd Dodge long before North Texas’ new head coach began recruiting him a few weeks ago. “I played with Riley and a lot of the guys on Southlake Carroll’s team when I lived up there,” Scoggins said. “I know coach Dodge. He is a great coach. I know that we are going to turn the program around.” Scoggins agreed to become a part of that process when he orally committed to play for the Mean Green on Wednesday. Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day recruits can sign national letters of intent is Feb. 7. Scoggins was also offered a scholarship by UTEP. Iowa State and TCU also showed interest in Scoggins, who is No. 99 in The Dallas Morning News’ list of the top 100 recruits in the area. UNT was one of several schools that recruited Scoggins (6-3, 265) as a defensive lineman. The transition is one Scoggins is looking forward to making in UNT’s new 4-3 defense. “I played tight end in high school, but a lot of schools wanted me to play defensive tackle,” Scoggins said. “They think that I can do some things for them there. I am confident that I can put on weight and improve under [uNT defensive tackles coach Robert] Drake.” Scoggins was a first-team All-District 7-5A selection at tight end and helped lead Trinity to the playoffs. Scoggins is one of several players from the Dallas-Fort Worth area who have committed to play for the Mean Green. UNT has also received a commitment from Trinity wide receiver Marcus King. Scoggins said an opportunity to play with several players from the Dallas-Fort Worth area was one of the reasons he decided to play for the Mean Green. UNT has commitments from seven players from the area in recruiting thus far, plus Rice transfer Evan Fentriss, a former Southlake Carroll standout. Entering the third of its official visit weekends, the Mean Green has commitments from 13 high school players and junior college running back Cam Montgomery, in addition to Fentriss. Lewis leaves football staff Former Texas standout Derek Lewis has left UNT’s staff to pursue other opportunities, sources close to the situation said Wednesday. Lewis was hired by new UNT head coach Todd Dodge to coach the Mean Green’s defensive ends after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Texas. Lewis spent three seasons with the St. Louis Rams and was part of their 1999 Super Bowl championship team before starting his coaching career. BRETT VITO can be reached at 940-566-6870. 2. Arkansas and Oklahoa are not the only the only place place were "hillbilly BS" happens, but it's funny that it happens more in those two state than the rest of the US combined.
  3. Just because he is of Italian decent. Does not mean he's a Gangster or involved in the Mafia. We need to end these stereotypes. Just kidding. I think it would be great to play the theme from the Godfather.
  4. What about Charlie Brown. Haven't heard from MeanGreenPop in a while. I'm wondering what's the deal with Charlie? Is he coming back or not?
  5. Don't you have to get an appointment to any of the Military academy's? I know you have to get an appointment to West Point or Annapolis, don't know about Colorado Springs.
  6. Carroll football celebration A celebration for the Southlake Carroll football team is planned for 6 p.m. today at the school's student activities center. The team will be presented with an 18-inch bronze trophy from MaxPreps for finishing No. 1 in its final national high school rankings for the second straight year. Members of the community are invited to attend the celebration, which will honor the Carroll team that a month ago today beat Austin Westlake to win its fourth 5A title in five years. Players will also be signing autographs. Don't know if former coach Todd Dodge will be there, but maybe he'll drop a hint about his successor
  7. Comparing Dickey and Parcells is an insult to Dickey.
  8. Fleming leaves before he even gets a chance to play. Sounding more and more like Tic every day.
  9. The 25-30 refers to years in 1-AA, which is still in correct. But he's gone lets not worry about any longer. Dickey's a prick, we all know that but let him live his miserable life in Utah State.
  10. He's got to be. He's already graduated from JUCO. And has to be enrolled in school to participate in Spring Ball.
  11. Former high school wrestler sentenced to probation FLOWER MOUND, Texas A former suburban Dallas high school wrestler has been sentenced to a year's probation for allegedly hazing teammates at a 2005 pool party. Cory Talbert pleaded no contest to assault with bodily injury. The 18-year-old former Flower Mound High School wrestler also was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and assessed more than eleven-hundred dollars in fees and fines. Under terms of a plea deal, Talbert was sentenced to probation with deferred adjudication. That means the charge will be dropped from his criminal record if he satisfies the probation. Another former wrestler, 19-year-old Dustin Everett of Flower Mound, is set for trial next month in Denton on hazing and assault charges. A Denton County grand jury last year indicted five other students ages 15 and 16 on juvenile charges including hazing, assault and one sexual assault charge. Team coach Charles Zascavage also was indicted, but a judge dropped the hazing charge agains Zascavage last April because the law was too vague, officials said. Zascavage is no longer the school's wrestling coach.
  12. Good Point GM, But the basketball team has NO, I repeat NO support. Neither team has posted a consisitent winning record to get people (Alums from Dallas) excited enough to spend 30 minutes on the road for a game. NT needs a recognizeable coach, who plays an exciting style of basketball and WINS, beating decent teams that people have heard of. NT needs to get with one of the independent channels and broadcast some of our games, to get people excited about hoops. We need coaches who promote the programs, giving media interviews and just basically schmoosing everyone to make basketball HUGE at NT (Fans, Media, administration, the public).
  13. When I worked at SportsDay, the recruiting writer had very little input in the recruiting list, even the area top 100. The only input rivals considered in the bottom 30 (71-100). I imagine that is pretty much how it is now.
  14. A three star recruit signed already. WAY TO GO TODD DODGE!!!
  15. Some recruiting tidbits While hunting down Euless Trinity wide receiver Marcus King, I had a chance to talk for a minute or two with his teammate and fellow UNT target Jordan Scroggins, a tight end/defensive end prospect. Scroggins said he was still considering his options. King acknowledged that he will spend the next few days trying to sell Scroggins on UNT. Scroggins is ranked No. 99 among Dallas-area prospects by The Dallas Morning News. While UNT is still waiting on Scroggins, it did pick up a ranked recruit in Jesse DeSoto. The San Antonio Lee defensive lineman is ranked No. 7 in the San Antonio area and No. 100 in the state by the San Antonio Express-News. For a recap of Sunday's UNT commitments, see Monday's Denton Record-Chronicle story at : http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...22.87786c6.html
  16. Could it be that he was smarter than we give him creditfor being. After all he was at SMU for something like 8 years. Unfortunately he didn't learn anything about coaching football or anger management.
  17. Chris Hurd was a walk on and he was the SBC defensive player of the year. Here is the criteria for walking on at NT Link North Texas Football Conducts Open Walk-On Tryouts Based On The Following Criteria If you are not currently enrolled in North Texas: -You must apply and be accepted to North Texas -Once you have been accepted, proceed with the below instructions -If you have not applied, do so at your earliest convienance -If you are not accepted to North Texas, you will not be able to walk-on (per NCAA rules) For Spring 2007 If currently enrolled at North Texas: North Texas students interested in walking onto the football team for the spring 2007 season must be enrolled full-time at North Texas and be in good academic standing. If you are a senior graduating May/June 2007 and will be a first time UNT freshman student in the fall of 2007: -must be accepted and enrolled full-time at North Texas must be cleared by NCAA Clearinghouse (for clearinghouse info, see your high school counselor) If you are a potential walk-on who is enrolled at another institution of higher education (ie junior college, community college or four-year college) and currently on the football roster (or at one time have been on the football roster) fall under the category of transfer. Because of this, no member of the North Texas Athletic Department may be in contact with you (regardless if you contact North Texas first) until North Texas receives a release from your school (per NCAA rules).
