  1. North Texas Head Coach: Todd Dodge Former Coach: Darrell Dickey Last Seen: Coaching Southlake Carroll (Tex.) High School The Skinny: In an effort to revive a program that’s slipped badly the last few years, the Mean Green took a rare dip into the high school ranks, landing a legendary coach. Dodge, a former Longhorn quarterback and North Texas offensive coordinator, won a mind-boggling 79 of his last 80 games and four state championships since 2002 behind a four-receiver, no-huddle offense that was virtually unstoppable. Can it work in the Sun Belt against college athletes? Time will tell, but one undeniable fact is that Dodge is a rock star in these parts, which means recruits are going to pay attention and boosters are going to pay whatever is necessary to improve the program’s facilities. Putting Out the Welcome Mat: QB Giovanni Vizza. If there’s one thing that Dodge really knows is how to raise a quarterback. Vizza is his first quarterback recruit, de-committing from Nevada to play “Dodge Ball” for the Mean Green.

  4. Glanville to become Portland State coach By ANNE M. PETERSON, AP Sports Writer February 28, 2007 PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Jerry Glanville is ready to run another football team. This time, the former NFL coach is taking over at Portland State -- vowing to turn the Vikings into the "hardest hitting football team on the West Coast." Glanville, former coach of the NFL's Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons, has been defensive coordinator at Hawaii for the past two seasons under June Jones. He replaces Tim Walsh, who resigned Feb. 16 after 14 years with the Division I-AA Vikings to take over as offensive coordinator for Army. "I hope our football team does not just represent the university. I want this to be the city's football team," Glanville said. The terms of Glanville's contract -- including its length -- have not yet been determined. Glanville interviewed over a whirlwind visit Monday and Tuesday. "We had to convince him that the athletic department, the university and the city, that we are committed to this football team," interim athletic director Teri Mariani said. Glanville, 65, developed the so-called "Gritz Blitz" defense and was head coach of the Houston Oilers from 1986-89 and the Atlanta Falcons from 1990-93. He was known as much for his personality as his coaching. Outspoken and often dressed in black, he playfully left game tickets for Elvis Presley to pay homage to the late singer. After head coaching stints at Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky, Glanville embarked on a pro career as a special teams coach and defensive assistant with the Detroit Lions. He became defensive backs coach for the Falcons in 1977 and later served as defensive coordinator. In 1984, he joined the Oilers as defensive coordinator and two seasons later became head coach. He returned to the Falcons as head coach in 1990. He was replaced in 1993 by Jones. He put his caching career aside for the next 11 years and worked in television, with such shows as "NFL Today" and a five-year run on Fox. Glanville joined Jones' staff at Hawaii in 2005. Glanville said Jones, who starred at quarterback for Portland State in the mid-1970s, was the one who persuaded him to take the job. "He said, `You and that school would be tremendous,"' Glanville said. In a packed conference room at Portland State's student union, Glanville was applauded by boosters. His wife Brenda was bestowed with flowers from President Daniel Bernstine. "I think we're on our way to have a lot of fun," Glanville said. "One thing about the Glanvilles is that we have fun." Glanville is expected to name former Portland State head coach Mouse Davis, whose run-n-shoot offense Jones still uses, as his offensive coordinator. Walsh went 90-68 at Portland State, including 7-4 last season. He led the Vikings to three straight playoff appearances at the Division II level before they moved up to Division I-AA and the Big Sky Conference in 1996. "I think we're already a good football team," Glanville said. "We're going to go to work and we're going to build on all the good things the previous coaching staff was able to do" Associated Press Writer Jaymes Song in Honolulu contributed to this report.
  5. Is NTTV going to broadcast this year's spring game? If not, why not? It would be the most watched thing they've broadcast.
  6. Ransom did not get another year of eligibility.
  7. http://www.herald-democrat.com/articles/20...ts/sports01.txt Tom Bean hires coach By Bill Spinks Herald Democrat TOM BEAN — Tal Sanders has a family tradition: Naming his kids with the initials “T.D.” — for touchdown. Sanders and his wife have four children ranging in age from two to 14, which figured prominently in his search for a job. Tom Bean seemed to be a perfect fit. “”I’m excited,” Sanders said Monday night from Ferris, where he will be leaving to take over at Tom Bean’s new head coach and athletic director. “I can’t wait to get started. It sounded like to me a great atmosphere — a small town, a Christian atmosphere, a great place to raise a family.” The Tom Bean ISD board of trustees unanimously approved Sanders after a one-hour executive session during a special meeting Monday night. The board approved a two-year contract, which takes effect Thursday. Sanders replaces Brent Graham, who left in mid-January after one 0-10 season to accept a job in the athletic department at the University of Tulsa. Having had to hire three new athletic directors in the last five years, Tom Bean superintendent Dr. Jerry Stout said finding a coach who would stick around for a while was a priority this time. “He’s very stable,” Stout said of Sanders. “He’s only been in two places, and each of those were for nine years. He’s talked about our community, and what he knows about our schools. He did his homework on Tom Bean, and he’s eager to come here.” Sanders beat out two other finalists for the job: Canton offensive coordinator Aaron Slider, and Grapeland athletic director Chris Iske. Sanders was reassigned by Ferris in December after a third-straight three-win season. Coaching at what is perennially one of the smallest Class 3A schools in its area, Sanders was 38-53 in nine years as head coach at Ferris. His best season was 2000, when his Yellow Jackets went 9-4, won a co-district championship, and made it to the third round of the 3A Region II playoffs. Prior to coaching at Ferris, the Haltom City native served as a coach at his alma mater, Haltom High School, from 1990-98. Sanders was offensive coordinator in his final three seasons there and held a variety of duties before that, including five years as head soccer coach. He began his coaching career in 1989 at Haltom Junior High. [b[sanders played collegiately at North Texas, winning two letters, according to the North Texas media guide, before graduating in 1988.[\b] Sanders said he will continue to run the spread offense, which was instituted for the first time last year by his predecessor, Graham. Defensively, he said he would plan on using either a split or 4-2-5 formation. Sanders says his coaching philosophy is simple: Do what’s right. “I teach the kids that doing right is the most important thing,” Sanders said. “If you do that, you’ll be successful in life.” ____________________________________________________________ Don't remember him, but it's good to have another former Mean Green player in the area.
  8. Wasn't meant as a Burn. JayDub just needs a Girlfriend!
  9. Hell Jaydub could be clueless on this situation and he'd STILL NEED A WOMAN
  10. That's the way Mack recruits. He makes an offer and if the prospect commits within the week they have a ship. That's why he got burned by Ryan Periloux (sp). He lets the recruits know their are plenty of kids out their who would commit right now and then turns around and leaves.
  11. Here is the problem with the students who attend games. I think the team will at least give effort on every play. THe team didn't care this game and it showed. I hope these same students go back to homecoming this year and do another video on their experience at a 2007 FB game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbNg2sh3MGA

  17. Football questions abound at UT Brown enters spring drills lacking experience at key positions 02:49 AM CST on Friday, February 23, 2007 By CHIP BROWN / The Dallas Morning News chipbrown@dallasnews.com AUSTIN – Heading into his 10th season, Mack Brown says he has more unanswered questions heading into spring football practice, which begins today, than at any time since his first year at UT. "I think we have a lot of good players, just no experience at some really key positions," Brown said Thursday. Those question marks include three positions in the secondary and three starting positions on the offensive line as well as fullback and defensive end. Brown is also concerned about depth at quarterback, running back and tight end. "There's more new stuff on this team than at any time since our first year," Brown said. Tailback Jamaal Charles, who finished fourth in the 100 meters at the NCAA Outdoor championships last season, has decided not to run track during spring football practice in an effort to get stronger. "We need Jamaal to touch the ball more and stay healthy doing it," Brown said of Charles, who led UT with 831 yards on 156 carries and seven touchdowns in 2006. Brown is also eager to find another running back or two who can help carry the load. The candidates include Vondrell McGee, who redshirted last season, Chris Ogbannaya (18 carries for 82 yards and one TD in 2006) and James Henry, who redshirted as a safety last season. Texas failed to average 4 yards per carry in seven of its last nine games last season. "We just have to take some wider splits on the offensive line, break more tackles and do a better job of downfield blocking by our receivers," Brown said. Brown said incoming freshman John Chiles, a Mansfield Summit product who enrolled early, will compete with redshirt freshman Sherrod Harris (Arlington Bowie) for the backup quarterback position behind Colt McCoy. Linebacker Drew Kelson, who will be a senior, is returning to safety, where he started his UT career. Brown said he is excited about the young talent at linebacker, led by Jared Norton, Sergio Kindle of Woodrow Wilson and Rod Muckelroy, who was sidelined by a hand injury last season. Brown expects those players to push 2006 starters Robert Killebrew, Rashad Bobino and Scott Derry. Briefly: DT Derek Lokey, who broke his leg last season, will take part in spring drills but not as a short-yardage fullback. ... Brown said sophomore LB Jeremy Campbell and sophomore WR Myron Hardy are out of school this semester and will miss spring practice. ... OG Cedric Dockery (knee) will not take part in spring drills. ... Kindle will not work at short-yardage running back during the first half of spring drills. New co-defensive coordinator Larry Mac Duff wants to evaluate Kindle on defense. ... WR Quan Cosby, RB Vondrell McGee and CBs Deon Beasley and Chykie Brown are candidates to return punts and kicks. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I feel so bad for the whorns . They have a $40 million budget, get the top recruits in the state. They enter spring drills lacking experience. Oh Woe is Me. Grow a set Mack! UT's going to win at least 9 games this year and go to a big payout bowl. I feel so sorry for him.
