  7. Priests to purify site after Bush visit By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA, Associated Press Writer GUATEMALA CITY - Mayan priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday. "That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture," Juan Tiney, the director of a Mayan nongovernmental organization with close ties to Mayan religious and political leaders, said Thursday. Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled to visit the archaeological site Iximche on the high western plateau in a region of the Central American country populated mostly by Mayans. Tiney said the "spirit guides of the Mayan community" decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of "bad spirits" after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace. He also said the rites — which entail chanting and burning incense, herbs and candles — would prepare the site for the third summit of Latin American Indians March 26-30. Bush's trip has already has sparked protests elsewhere in Latin America, including protests and clashes with police in Brazil hours before his arrival. In Bogota, Colombia, which Bush will visit on Sunday, 200 masked students battled 300 riot police with rocks and small homemade explosives. The tour is aimed at challenging a widespread perception that the United States has neglected the region and at combatting the rising influence of Venezuelan leftist President Hugo Chavez, who has called Bush "history's greatest killer" and "the devil." Iximche, 30 miles west of the capital of Guatemala City, was founded as the capital of the Kaqchiqueles kingdom before the Spanish conquest in 1524.
  8. You can watch NT alum Andre' Boutte's Beamount Ozen team against South Oak Cliff in the Class 4A finals live at 3:30 p.m. today (Saturday) on AT&T’s blue room Web site. To view the game you will need to log on to the AT&T blue room sports Web site at attblueroom.com/sports. I recommend a high-speed internet (Broadband, cable or T1) connection for decent results. It is also on radio at KKGM-1160 am

  10. I just called Voertman's (11:30 a.m. Saturday) to inquire about a Sun Belt Conference Basketball T-shirt and was told by the girls who answered the phone, she didn't know if they were getting shirts and if they were she didn't know when. WTF? If this was football they would have been available the next day. Or if this was another school, pick a mid-major, the shirts would be available already. The Athletic Department has really dropped the ball on marketing this thing. They should be giving out SBC CHAMPIONSHIP Shirts like they are going out of style. This is a GREAT way to get NORTH TEXAS out in front of the Metroplex and one again the administration has dropped the ball.
  11. ATKINSON, N.H. (AP) -- Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Lt. William Baldwin said in a news release that there was no indication of foul play. "There was nothing disrupted in the house. He was a fairly healthy person from what we're able to ascertain," Police Chief Philip Consentino told WMUR-TV. Delp apparently was alone at the time, Baldwin said. The cause of death remained under investigation. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday. Delp sang on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002. He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade. The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall. On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll." A call to the Swampscott, Mass., home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

  18. Kevin Busby-Hayden, 6-1 PG from Spruce is also on JJ's Radar. We've got a good shot at him because he's Donnell "BUG" Hayden's kid. Bug was the newcomer of the year his senior and only year at NT. He started off at Baylor and then went to JUCO before coming to NT. He was a scoring machine. Weighed about 135-pounds dripping wet with 10 pound weights on each ankle, but he could ball.
