As a sports writer who is in the middle of writing football previews, I wondered if the writer has ever seen North Texas play or had a conversation with any of the Mean Green coaches. He had great research (Stats, a roster and a good history) and the story was very informative, but it was too contrite and there was no depth to the writing. You could tell he had not spoken with anybody at North Texas because of all of the Faust references. You can tell when a writer is working from research when he uses clichés in almost every paragraph. The extended information on a player that graduated two years ago (Patrick Cobbs) and the three paragraph’s on Johnny Quinn are old writers tricks to take up space in previews. He was probably told to turn in 4,000 word on North Texas. The story was 3,972 words.

Before I came to North Texas, my cousin told me that the NT radio station was KUNT and its slogan was wide spread over Texas. Needless to say that was/is not true.
