  1. I expect the 2nd team QB to play the third series of the game. I would be stunned if Dodge did not do this.
  2. Page changes commitment Mesquite quarterback Kelly Page said Saturday that he has changed his commitment from Tulsa to Oregon. Page (6-3, 210) committed to Tulsa late last month, but he received an offer from Oregon a few days after that. He said he has always wanted to play in the Pac-10, and he was told he will have a chance to compete for a starting spot right away, which was a big factor in his decision.
  3. Tivo the OU game and watch it over and over.

  12. cmj You know you have to have the capital to film and edit the games for footage. You would think that NTTV would do this as a money making venture and donate some of the profits to the AD. But that would make too mucj since and this is North Texas, where if something takes any effort it doesn't get done.

  14. I'm with UNTLifer. Didn't see it and don't care to watch it.
  15. Thank you. I'm going to make at least one shirt, maybe more.
  16. I've been doing HS football previews for a month. Here are some of the better kickers in the area. I like the the Plano West kid, he's under the radar and I've seen the Carrollton American Heritage kicker. He's a stud. Haven't seen anyone else, but the Liba kid is pretty good. I didn't do a preview on Argyle, but their kicker Ben Parks, who is a good one, had NT listed as a choice. He no longer does, because he wasn't happy that we redshirted Woodward. But with Woodward gone, he might be interested again. Plano West Jordan Davenport (6-1, 175) has earned the job as the kicker and punter this year. Davenport was a standout at a Dallas-area kicking combine in July. His punting average of 43.25 was the best in camp by almost 2.5 yards. He was a perfect 8-for-8 in FG attempts with his 50 yarder clearing the cross bar with ease. Carrollton American Heritage Thomas Blankenship, a two-time all-state kicker, has missed just 19 of his 159 career PAT’s. While not called on for field goals, he had zero in 2006 and only four in his career (a long of 36 yards). Dallas Christian Senior Zach Zelios (5-9, 160) and Stephen Campbell shared the place kicking duties, with both doing a more than adequate job. Zelios handled the brunt of the work load, hitting 81.25 percent of his PATs (39-for-48). He also had three field goals (33, 27, 20). Campbell was perfect (6-for-6) on his PATs. Farmersville Senior James Wise (5-8, 161) will return as the place kicker. He connected on 83 percent of his PATs (30 for 36) and hit a 30 yard field During a five-game stretch he nailed 14 extra points in a row. Frisco Centennial Michael Liba, who was first-team all-district kicker, connected on 83 percent of his PATs (15 of 18). He also hit 6 FGs, wth a long of 35 yards. Junior Brenden Grimley (5-8, 150) will probably handle the kickoffs as he had 7 touchbacks last year. Lake Dallas Michael Murray (5-10, 165) was one of three players that was named all-district first-team kicker. Last year hit almost 90 percent of his PATs (44 of 49) and made 9 FGs, 5 of more than 30 yards. Murray proved to have one of the strongest legs in the area as a freshman, hitting 9 FGs with a long of 38 yards. Plano East The Panthers have problem with there kicking game, a problem most coaches would like to have. They have too much talent. Senior Evan Hamel, who connected on 91 percent of his PATs (20-for-22) and kicked 3 FGs, with a long of 35-yards, outstanding numbers until you consider senior Chad Powell was perfect on PATs (24 of 24), and hit 60 percent of his field goal attempts (3-for-5, with a long of 44 yards). Richardson Canyon Creek Garrett Weidner and Noah Smythe shared the place kicking duties. Weidner was 4-for-4 on his PAT’s with two FG’s (32, 41). Smythe was 9-for-11 on his PAT’s with a 26-yard FG. The Colony Jason Guenila was a second-team all-district kicker as a junior. He was perfect on his PATs (13 of 13) and he hit 5 FGs, with long of 34-yards. Wylie Justin Nesmith (6-1, 160) returns as the place kicker having made 90 percent of his PATs (18 of 20) He also connected on 6 FGs, with 41 yards being the best. Profiles of kids still looking for an offer. Ross Evans Nathan Harvey has NT listed
  17. Kicking competition and other notes We can now officially add the kicking spot to the list of positions up for grabs in fall practice this season at North Texas. Head coach Todd Dodge confirmed on Wednesday that Steven Woodward is no longer with the team and that three freshmen walk-ons will compete for the job. Clayton Teasdale, Trent Deans and Thomas Moreland will have a chance to make their case to start against Oklahoma in the Mean Green's season opener. Dodge said he wouldn't ask punter Truman Spencer to take on the kicking duties, but Spencer said he might try kicking off. On another front, Dodge addressed how UNT would make up for the loss of safety Roy Loren, who is no longer with the team. Sophomore Kartey Agbottah is working with the first team, while sophomore Desmon Chatman has moved from corner to safety. Chatman has good size for a safety at 6-2, 187, and has been impressive so far in practice. By the way, according to the UNT sports information crew Kartey does spell his last name Agbottah. Here are a few other items from practice today: Jamario Thomas said he felt great at media day and then went out and broke off a few impressive runs in practice. Esteban Santiago is getting more playing time with the first-team offense at guard. Freshman defensive lineman Jordan Scoggins is seeing time with the first-team defense and could contribute this season. Running back Cam Montgomery appears as if he will be a force in the passing game out of the backfield. At 6-2 with good speed, he could be a matchup nightmare against a linebacker. Linebacker Craig Robertson, a player UNT's coaches believe could develop into a star, picked off a pass in team drills.
  18. Notes from Media Day I was really impressed with how much bigger the players have gotten since last year. Montey Kennerson-Stevenson said he gained 14 pounds of muscle and is up to 294 pounds. He looked like he just had a shot of Gamma Rays (for all of you non-comic book fans, he was an F'n HULK). He said he'd still have Stevenson on the back of his jersey. He didn't want Kennerson-Stevenson running off both sleeves. Aaron Weathers said he is expecting the team to compete for the Sun Belt title and that the team won't be happy with anything less than a Sun Belt Championship and a trip to a Bowl game, preferably the New Orleans Bowl. Maurice Holman looks like he could stop a semi. Very nice young man, but he wants a New Orleans Bowl victory in his senior year, REALLY BAD. I was scared. Brandon Jackson is a funny guy. I introduced myself and he introduced himself "Brandon Jackson, University of North Texas football player." I told him he forgot a word- STAR. He laughed and nodded and said he'd try. I asked him about the new offense and his face lit up. He is excited about being in a passing offense. Then I asked him id he minded all the Southlake Carroll comparisons. He said no, because Coach Dodge was at North Texas now, not Southlake Carroll. He said this was not a High School offense; it was an offense that can move the ball against any defense. He said he is proud to be a North Texas football player. I told Adam Venegas that he looked like he just woke up. He said he had. He was sad that Josh Alexander was unable to go this year, but he thought the O-line could still be good, it just needs time to gel. I asked him if they will be ready for OU. He said definitely. Justin Padron spoke with me. I told him that the board had nicknamed him "The General." He thanked us for the nickname and said he's do his best to live up to it. I told him he earned the nickname in High School, but he said it was "talented teammates and great coaching. He had very little to do with it." Great kid, will represent NT well for the next 4 or 5 years. If freshman WR Sam Roberson runs away from defenders this year as fast as he ran away from me, then he's going to score a lot of TDs. I tried to catch him after he had his picture taken, but he was out the door and into the stairway before I could catch him. (I ain't taking the wheelchair up the stairs, even for NT) I stopped transfer Evan Fentriss and asked him if Coach Dodge is any different as a coach in college as a opposed to HS. He said, "Dodge is Dodge." He is exactly who we see. He tells you what he expects and then works you to meet his expectations. He didn't call him coach or coach Dodge, he called him Dodge, like he was a friend or a mentor. It was neat to see. I mostly just sat their and listened when Coach Dodge spoke. Coach Dodge is such a charismatic guy; you can't help but listen and believe what he's saying. I did ask a question about the problems down at tU and how he’d handle something like that. He said he’d handle each incident with a one-on-one talk to find out the truth on what happened and then make his decision on a case-by-case. There should be no, hard fast rule on discipline. I talked with Hank and he said the MEAN GREEN INSIDER will be back on Aug. 27. They're working to get the show on TV, but he thinks that will be next year. That's it, GreenBat
  19. Both, they both are. Dodge said he was more impressed with Teasdale as a punter, but the competition was still open.
