I'm with you. Comparing this football program to workaday jobs is stupid. Don't mistake my point, I'm not content with the performance of the team right now, or Dodges record.
-
Tired and worn out... In the business world one team winning does not equal one team losing. In many of our jobs less than 95%-100% performance will get you fired. In the business world, it matters how you do it integrity wise as much as if you are able to accomplish it. Ask Enron how giving their shareholders results panned out for them. We must win the right way. If we can't do it the right way, we don't deserve to win.

Plumm, I really have no idea what you just meant by that. You think TCUs stadium location is bad? What socio-economic climate are they "seemedly" pandering to?

In fact, it would solidify it's position when/if the super-conferences ever form. -
Wac Officially Contacts Utsa And Texas St

I completely agree, I've been wanting to be in a conference with another Texas school for a while now. -
He left out the part where offense and special teams combined to spot them 50 yds on half their drives.

So far you are undefeated. That's a pretty good record. Sorry in advance if that is taken as flippant - not meant to be.

Of course I make over $250,000. Who doesn't these days? I didn't say he was being forced to coach. And Todd Dodge probably can't make that income doing anything other than coaching. I'd trade jobs with him in a heart beat. Of course no one is holding a gun to his head and no one is holding a gun to yours or mine to go to work. That's a stupid statement and again, overly dramatic. His record flat out sucks, and it likely won't get any better. In a world where there is always a winner and always a loser - his record is awful. It tells us that he is overpaid. My point is, for many of us to win at our jobs there isn't always a loser, such as in football.
-
While there are some lines that can be drawn, I still maintain that even that is not a good comparison. There are many, many win-win scenarios in the business world.
-
Emmitt, I wouldn't compare what you do to a game. But if that's how you treat it, I can't argue with that. At the risk of derailing this thread further, I've always wanted to know how an individuals production is measured in your line of work?
-
I sleep just fine at night.... Not sure what that has to do with anything. 7 wins is fine by me, as long as the requirement the next year is 8 wins. If Dodge is back next year, there's a high likelihood we'd be SBC champs and bowl eligible this year. I'm okay with that. If not, see you later TD.

Don't compare coaching a game to our work-a-day jobs. Do you have 23,000 critics second guessing your every move at your job? Does your job depend on you appeasing 23,000 fans by producing in a game where 1 person succeeds and one person fails? Newsflash - Most of our jobs are not zero-sum scenarios. There are very few lines that can be drawn between coaching games and working our everyday jobs. The lines that can be drawn have been written about in books, and it usually has to do with motivation. The argument you put forth is never mentioned, and flimsy at best. The comment about people losing their jobs and houses is real, and a gross over dramatization to attempt to get your point across that it's almost insulting.

Persepctive From A New Season Ticket Holder

I love your outlook on things. It's how I try to look at things as well. I've been stunned many, many times. -
Persepctive From A New Season Ticket Holder

I hate to derail this thread, since it's a very good start to a topic. I might know who he is talking about, and if it's not the same, then there are at least 2 cases of this happening. -
I'd love to have Todd back next year, because that would mean we'd likely be Sun Belt Champs this year. You have to draw a line somewhere. The line has been drawn and everyone, TD more than anyone, knows what the goal is. The bar isn't and hasn't been all that high these past 4 years and yet still, we have managed to continually defy expectations in the opposite direction we should be going.

There aren't just 2 guys out there that can coach at this level for the same or equal price. There are FCS schools with coaches that can beat top 25 teams that make less money than TD or MC. There are plenty of coaches that are chomping at the bit to take a job at the highest level of college football. You said yourself the talent isn't that bad, which would make this job attractive to someone who can coach them up. The best recruiting bed in all of college football, a new stadium on the way, and an increasing fan base make this job anything but a place to end a career. MC certainly is bringing the mystique back. I am mystified by our use of Riley Dodge. I am mystified why, after 2 games at OC for UNT and no previous head coaching experience, some think MC is the best person to head this team.

You're not alone. Everyone on this board supports our team and coach dodge, obviously. I want very badly to believe they have what it takes to turn this ship around. Aside from the record, there is nothing not to like about the guy and the team. I like Dodge, and I think a whole lot of other people wanted very badly to see him and the team succeed. But, after how long we've shown what we showed again last night, it's understandable that more than one fan is frustrated. It's also understandable that with that new stadium sitting across the highway, making the same mistakes and losing in the same fashion just isn't going to be good enough for this school. The stadium is a huge investment in the future of this program. The close losses just aren't going to cut it any longer. Good, well coached teams find a way to win those games... see Boise, TCU, West Virginia. There was no lack of opportunity to win last night, and on just about every opportunity, we came up just short, just like last year.
-
I may have seen some missed tackles... but I also saw a defense that was asked to defend all but maybe 2 drives from their side of the 50 and stopped the first 4,5, or 6 of those and forced FGs and turnovers. If we were looking at the starting position, this game could have gotten incredibly nasty. I will not harp on missed tackles after this game. The offense had the opportunities and didn't come through. The defense, save the last very critical drive, played admirably, IMO.

Riley may be a real talent, but I really don't know how we are using him. Last year he was the QB, I just don't see how he fits into this offense this year. He hasn't really lined up at WR and when he does, there's not a whole lot of separation. I have yet to see him throw a pass in a game. Usually it's a option read, and I'm not the best at breaking down a defense from the sidelines, but it looks to be he makes the same wrong decision every time - keep the ball. It's no secret that when Riley is in, you can pretty much bank on run and if there's an option he's keeping the ball. Soo frustrating that from 3rd and 2 we trot out Riley to hang on to the ball to get the tough yards, when we have a couple really good running backs and a line that can run block fairly well.

I really hope he can get things turned around this year. Last year had to be brutal.

Ford will Hurt. Bennie Jones looked B.A. for the time he was out there... Wish we could have seen more of him. Didn't notice a difference in play from Johnston to Leppo myself. I guess that's a good thing? Thanks for the recap too.
-
Like the helmets for both teams. I love that flat black and glossy look. Looks awesome. Boise unis look better than VA Techs, those are hideous.

Completely agree... Can't we reserve judgment until we play through more than one game? To everyone who wants a head coach that scored 10 points in his mean green play calling debut: we are living that dream. Are you sure you don't want to wait a little longer before making a statement you might regret? Dickey was right about our fans.
