  1. Why do we always have to see this garbage on the board? Who gives a crap what that little school does down there in Dallas. Johnny Jones and our current seniors have already set the bar, and we look to the new kids coming in in this class and the last to keep the winning tradition going that they already started here. These kids have a great potential, great coaching, and great role models to pattern their game after and grow the program to new heights. It's going to be an exciting ride here for the next few years, if they learn to play together and work hard. Hopefully we can be talking about one of them that blossoms into NBA caliber like WKU has already done. I can't tell you how happy I am to be in the Sun Belt for hoops, because it really seems to be getting better and better.
  2. There are plenty of assistants with tons of experience at the level of football we play and better that I'm sure would consider the job. The level of football we play being lower Bowl Subdivision. I should have been more careful in my wording. Before coming here Todd Dodge was an inexperienced head coach. He wasn't an assistant at his previous job and he didn't have experience at the college head coach level. An experienced assistant (at our level or better) would have been a better call in retrospect.
  3. I don't think he mentioned hiring another inexperienced head coach... We do need a younger up and coming type of person. Probably an assistant. Johnny Jones when he got hired would be the type of profile coach I would be looking for. Good experience at successful programs with a good resume, just looking for an opportunity. Johnny Jones has proven that North Texas is not a career killer.
  4. Defense wins championships.
  5. Really wish things would have worked out for him here.
  6. UNT would be D2 without those "small donors". We aren't exactly that far removed from averaging less than 15k in the stands for home games. To me, if you merely show up for games to watch this team, we're happy to have you.
  7. It's Marcus - not Coppell. And I would would say we've never seen that before at UNT...
  8. UNT hasn't experimented enough with coaches who possess zero to little college coaching experience. What UNT needs is a new perspective and more nepotism.
  9. Not trying to make excuses for the D-Coordinator, but I would like to point out that these are supposedly D1 level college football players. Everyone, from top to bottom on this roster shouldn't have to be shown the basics of how to tackle. They should have learned that in peewee football, and just gotten better throughout HS. This team is just plain bad. Give me the bunker mentality of Dickey and call me a mother &@%#er. This experiment has gone terribly wrong. I'd rather be a verbally abused customer.
  10. You guys are better fans than I. I have never not gone to a game when I had absolutely nothing to do that day. This was the first game that I haven't made by choice. I had absolutely nothing to do today, and I didn't feel like driving up to Denton and don't regret it one bit. I cannot wait for basketball season to get here. For all of you who want to see some UNT wins go to the basketball games. You will be hooked and won't be disappointed.
  11. The endzone seating will be sponsored by This company
  12. I thought I was a fairly negative individual, but I don't think I've ever made a statement like that.
  13. I can see how you could be upset about this. But I see it as an indicator to how Dodge could have been overwhelmed from the beginning. There is a learning curve to taking that jump from HS to college, and I think it's unfortunate that this kid had to share in the cost of Dodge learning that aspect of his job. I think this is a great quote by Dodge: "My expectations are that there are some special things that can be done here at North Texas, whether or not I'll be the head coach that's to be seen but I'm not worried about that." 14. Is it bad that I'd rather the game be so out of reach early so that I can leave, rather than hanging around within a possession until the very end only to see us lose again?
  15. I agree with most of your post. However, you are falsely attributing the Report that Lane Rawlins asked his colleague to produce for UNT administrators to RV.
  16. Most interesting stat for me: 2 false start penalties on the last 2 drives almost cost us the game. However, those were 2 of 3 penalties. 3 penalties total really shows some good discipline, Now, space them out next time so you don't give us all heart attacks.
  17. I disagree. Looking at the box score... - UNT takes over at 6:40 left in the game after the TD to bring FAU within 4, 21-17. - UNT gets 1 first down and proceeds to move backwards from the FAU 39 back to the 50. - UNT kicks and FAU takes over with 3:30 left in the game. I start to think this is like every other game so far, and a turnover would be a great way for this defense to prove themselves with the game on the line. - UNT defense intercepts the ball, UNT offense takes over at the FAU 36 with 3:20 left. Just one first down would almost seal the deal. - FAU burns 2 timeouts and UNT only burns 19 seconds off the clock in 4 downs... Offense had 2 reasonable chances to put the game away with under 7 minutes left. 2 false start penalties kill both of those drives moving the offense backwards... Yes, the last drive the defense gave up 50 yds in a hurry, knowing that FAU had to pass. (Were we in Prevent there?)
  18. SMU looking great so far.
  19. Todge Rodge, I have been trying to determine if you are a fan of our football team or not. Most of what you post are counterpoints to everyone here, and to a great extent - factual. I will pull out the, "who are you a fan of?" flag, because I really can't tell. UNT has done some truly stupid things over the years with athletics. But it doesn't seem like you come out and support anything they do one way or the other. Everything you posted in this thread was, "Yea, the WAC sucks and yea, CUSA isn't going to come calling and Sun Belt isn't great either. I don't know if you are a defeated fan, not a fan, or just defeated. It's more of a woe is UNT attitude.
  20. Thanks for dropping the knowledge off.
  21. I'd like to ask you a question in return. If the SunBelt and WAC were to extend an invite to SA and/or San Marcus, which would you choose? Does UNT already being in the Sun Belt make it more attractive? Does Troy being in the Sun Belt mean anything? does the better basketball of the Sun Belt make it more attractive with Western Kentucky? Does sharing the same footprint as the SEC to get their fallout make a difference? Does having a growing presence in Florida mean anything?
  22. Anyone know how much San Antonio got Coker for?
  23. Travis, I realize that I left some factors out. My post was mainly meant to argue those who compare Dodges record to their own jobs and say they'd be fired if they did the same in their 9-5 job. My point is their jobs and the job of winning a football game are quite different. They'd be better served arguing that Dodges record is the worst of any Division 1 coach right now. The football program (at least the way we run it) right now is a non-profit organization meant to pay for these student-athletes to go to school(that's why they let you write off donations). That's what the NCAA would like to tell you as well. In the sense that the football program has to account for money and spend it and bring it in the way anyone with a bank account does, yes, I guess you could treat that as a business. Someone brought up the point of investing in the team, and I just felt the need to point out that it's generally a poor investment if you are seeking either money or wins in return.
  24. The athletic program at UNT is a marketing tool for the university. At some schools, it's a money maker. But not here. If the athletic dept. at UNT were run like a real business, we'd have been operating at loss for a very, very long time and if Dodges performance was graded like our performance at our jobs, then anything less than 1 loss a season is a fire-able offense. In the business world, customers don't simply hand over money without expecting some kind of value in return. If your return on investment is expected to be paid out in wins, then I'm okay with that. Just know that there are only 60 teams that win every Saturday. 720 wins and 720 losses a season to hand out, that market can't grow and contract in a given year. I wouldn't really want to invest in that environment. Dodges record is atrocious in the football world. In fact, if you put the athletic performance at UNT into perspective, and you planned to invest money into it to get wins out of it, your money is better spent else where. EX: UT/OU/FL/Ohio St/USC. Please don't leave though. Those schools have enough money and enough fans who don't give anything. If the goal is to give money because you are proud of our school, then please continue to give. There is a lot to be proud of. Most of all our fans. I had the pleasure or displeasure of going to OU this weekend with the MRS. to see OU play AF. The lack of intelligence and humbleness of that fan base is atrocious. Making jokes out of injured players and in general, not giving a crap about other fans is just crazy. They are entitled to win every week. The fans are smug and rude. Go over to TCU and talk to their fans. They understand what it means to lose and win, because their team comes from humble beginnings. I'm not making excuses for Dodge. His record is pathetic. If we haven't started winning by this time, he's never going to do it and I believe it might already be too late to save his job. And rightly so. However, the historical data shows increasing interest and fan support. So, if this were a business, he'd be doing well right? There has to be another reason for this other than Todd Dodges win/loss record, right? I'm being serious... How is our fan base growing? For what it's worth, I really think R.V. already has or is getting very close to having a short list.
  25. R.V. is the guy who is a main proponent of the stadium. R.V. brought in Johnny Jones who has precipitated basketball's winning ways. The answer is not to fire this man.
