I was a student during that time. Thank Darrell Dickey for my support of both Football, Basketball (along with TTG) and all things UNT. Had BK, Don McGee, Cam Spencer, Chris Hurd and all that defensive Awasomeness not happened, I might not be a fan currently. I might have, but I LOVE that it happened, whether you all do or not. Dickey's Offensive gameplan might have been terrible. But, terrible produced NATIONAL rushing champs, Sun Belt Championships, and New Orleans Bowl Trips. I can't tell any of you enough that didn't attend during the early to mid 2000's how much it helped.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying...

Oh, absolutely. I agree with you. The teams that will take UNT to the next level are going to take some time to piece together. I understand our need for size under the basket, but I'm not going to second guess JJ's ability to evaluate his team and players. He's become good at putting these teams together and I know he knows what he needs to make it better.

Does any team recruit 5 starters in one off-season?
-
lol, don't get too excited. This would be a good get, IMO. We can't sit around waiting for the next Charles Barkley to fall in our lap. Edit: Also, I'm seeing 6'5" and Junior. Big 12 experience. On a freshmen heavy team, this seems like just the right pickup.

Grand Green, Your assessment of Edwards I think can be expanded on. I don't think he looked as uncoordinated as much as out of position. There were a couple flashes and explosive moves I saw that made me think he might have been the best player on the floor. The problem (this may have something to do with an injury), was that his play was inconsistent and at times out of control. I'm wondering if more playing time or practice time wouldn't cure some of this. I just don't know the extent of limitation placed on him by injury. Everyone here knows and agrees that guys with size and talent don't grow on trees. It's tough for even some of the major programs at this level to find good big men. The chances that we'll find a guy that steps in and starts the 5 spot might be a little unrealistic as much as I don't want that to be the case. We'd almost be talking about replacing every one of last years' starters with a newcomer. I'm real happy with Hogans and we may be very pleasantly surprised with a rehabbed and fully healthy Edwards.

Am I reading this wrong? He gets 150k extra for completing seasons. Plus allowances and incentives and that would seem to push his 2012 earnings close to 400k, if not over.

This brings me to my next point... eppy4life = craig miller?

Not a fan of yours as I don't think the opinions expressed by you on this board are your own either. I'd have to experience a point of view that was your own for me to determine fandom. Until then, it's fun to discuss sports points with someone who is wrong.

Gomeangreen.com Is Interviewing Coach Mac Tomorrow!

No. -
Craig does good things for charities etc... So I can't hate the guy. Besides, I think it's just some bit akin to eppy's. They have to have an antagonist or sports points aren't fun to discuss. No one I talk to actually believes that Craig's point of views expressed on the station are his own.

I suppose you could say the same thing about the men's game that happened last night? There are people who don't care what you or I think because the like what they like.
-
Had no idea about all that. Good post. Much appreciated.

This game is not very fun to watch.

Why does it have to be white kid gloves?

Have a feeling TCU would be more on board than SMU at this point. There's probably more TCU fans that think this should happen than UNT fans. Maybe TCU would draw crowds to their basketball games if they were playing local teams every year.

This is a bit to draw everyone offsides... LOL?

Basketball Team Not Deserving Of Criticism
MeanMag replied to Glad To Be Green's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I've been holding off on posting about TCU for a while, mostly because I don't want to acknowledge what might be and really don't want to admit it. TCU has access to $$$ that currently, we don't. It doesn't mean we can't, but we don't right now. TCU sold out it's game this year against BYU and Jimmer Fredette. Not because of TCU fans, but because that game attracted basketball fans. The Big East teams that come here will attract basketball fans to TCUs stadium. They will soon outgrow their current digs and will have the $$ to build a new one. TCU will be looking for a coach next year provided Christian has another year like this. One that can recruit. Billy Gillispie is probably a name on their short list. Many TCU alumns felt that Christian should have been fired this year, but I don't think that's fair. All it takes is one or two decent season of basketball significance in the Big East for TCU and they're off to the races. It will take a while to build and it won't be easy. You can't build a D1 basketball power overnight, let alone the Big East, but I'd say their potential bar just got a bit higher. -
I don't think anyone would be happy to see him leave, but most are realistic about trying to keep up with the big boys. No one thinks JJ shouldn't get a raise. Put me in the camp to say he deserves a pretty nice one. Our new head Football Coach hasn't even started his first spring practice, can we cut him some slack? It took even JJ a while to build a winner. He didn't get Tony Mitchell to fall to UNT before he ever had organized practices.

My expectations were high. The way the season ended and the middle of it were certainly a let down. The type of balls on display in Hot Springs went a long way to adjusting my expectations which, like the season were a roller coaster. This team's proof that they were winners spanned far more than just one season. I could not have stomached seeing Collin Mangrum play against the Mean Green a year after being a component to our tournament team. It wouldn't have felt right.
-
I understand, and didn't mean to imply you argued against it, you merely introduced to the speculative thought that UNT is too poor to play in a post season tournament that does it no good. Others picked up this speculation as fact and started bringing up the US govt. and Taxes. Are you kidding me? This thread is full of fail. This is not directed at you GreenDylan: Paying to play in a post season tournament that isn't the NIT or NCAA is not in the programs' best interest just so some UNT alumnus can get off at work bragging to some stupid SMU ass clown. We should be secure enough with our basketball standing in the metroplex to not give a crap what any other school in it does, especially SMU. If we were to play SMU, whose players would have more to prove? It certainly wouldn't be UNT. They've proven themselves over the past 4 years already.

That's just it, there is no reason. There's no reason to play in a post season tournament when 5 of your 1st 6 players are seniors. The one Junior (Hogans) has been banged up all year. White was on crutches at the end of the season. Tristan was ready to puke on the sidelines of the summit, because he was playing so hard. This team doesn't need another week of practice only to graduate half of it's roster in a couple of months. Add that to the fact that your major contributors for next season are injured, or haven't gotten to campus yet, and it makes for absolutely no reason to play in a post season tournament. NOT 1 good reason. There are many teams that passed up these tournaments. Tulsa is one. So I don't buy into the "we're too poor to play", "woe is us" stuff. Argue that till you're blue in the face, but I guarantee it's not "the real" reason we aren't in the post season. The real reason we aren't in a post season tournament is because of a last second closely contested shot in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This team left us wanting more. I'd say that's a pretty decent product we are putting on the floor if that's the case.

What Idiot Decided To Have 11 And 12 Seed Play In Games?
MeanMag replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think that this is the first year they've fiddled with it. Whether it is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. What if it provides a couple extra good games to watch (which is the intent)?
