The reason people don't stick around any longer is because the games usually ended around 9 or 10. There's not a whole lot of games on aside from the west coast. This is different. The game ends at 7 which will leave plenty of time to enjoy the weather, friends, and the rangers.

Make Saturday A Mean Green/Texas Ranger Double Header
MeanMag replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I do, I love the move. -
This is going to be awesome! MG Football, then out to the parking lot to do some tailgating while watching the Ranger game. That is if they aren't showing it on the big screen after the game.

Some of you are brutal. Some of you have no idea what you are talking about. Thompson was in obvious pain last night. I'm kind of surprised he stayed in as long as he did. It's not a give up to put McNulty in. He's got no redshirt anymore. He's a freshmen, and we don't have many freshmen QBs on the roster. I would prepare to see more of him if I were you guys.

Didn't recognize the guy defending Kedrick that Franklin smacked. He appeared to be 6'5" or 6'6". No Number. It's fairly easy to tell the Freshmen from the upperclassmen just by looking at physiques. Patton doesn't look near as cut as Alonzo, Alzee, Kedrick, Roger and Tony, but I think he might be a little longer. It's going to be tough for these freshmen (outside of Tony) to step right in at the college level and assert themselves, but it will come, I'm sure.

Didn't realize Chris Jones was 6'2". He looks 6'2" next to Holmen now, but I remember he looked shorter at the state championship game to me.

Is It Time For North Texas To Sell Beer At Apogee?
MeanMag replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I use the game as a mandatory sobering period to recover from pregame before I have to drive back home. If any of you need beer in the stadium or halftime shotguns, you are tailgating wrong. -
This is all we fans really need to worry about. Have fun, tailgate and enjoy watching some good basketball and some improving football. It's going to take longer and much more than building a new stadium to dig this department out of the ditch that the old administrations drove us into. Things are improving, budgets are improving, support is improving. We will gather speed. It will be a snowball effect before you know it.

I agree. Out of the WAC, Sun Belt and MAC, the SunBelt appears to be the best positioned to ride this thing out.
-
You're right. The only way we should be scheduling them every year is by them being in our conference.
-
Yea, I get that. But, posting it in it's own thread when one is already going isn't going to change the fact that they aren't on our schedule. It sounds like you should write the Athletic Director. I'm more concerned that we can't hang with Houston, Tulsa, SMU, TCU, UTEP. I have the biggest bag of "don't care" whether UTSA is on our schedule or not.
-
You heard wrong. They said that we were going to win four Sun Belt Titles this season.
-
I hope beyond hope that he's ready. We could really use him this season with all the young guys around.
-
You mentioned features of San Antonio and completely missed the question. What is your obsession with UTSA? This is the 2nd thread about them this week. What the hell?

Villarreal on potential scheduling conflict
MeanMag replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The Rangers in the World Series was epic last year, will be epic this year, and will be epic next year. Show the World Series on the auxiliary board throughout the game and turn up the sound during timeouts, between quarters, and at half time. Who needs a halftime show when that's on? -
I'm torn on this. While I would like to play and beat UTSA and TSU-SM every year, at some point UNT is going to have to start passing schools above us. Our growth curve in funding and wins is going to have to exceed about 50 other schools to get to where I think UNT should be. Right now, we aren't making that move in football, we are simply catching up. The schools we should be competitive with given our history and size right now are Tulsa, Houston, SMU. Several years ago, the on field performance of the football team was on par with Baylor, Cincinnati, TCU. For 1-2 years. Even then, Tulsa seemed bigger, stronger, faster. All 3 of those teams went on to grow and improve performance and stature in their respective regions, while UNT moved backwards, for whatever excuse. Football should be on par with our basketball. Basketball proves talent can be brought here, and it's a great place to win. Dan McCarney and staff point to the basketball team as a model of what the football team wants to be. It's a great program to want to emulate for Dan McCarney because it's at the same school, with the same advantages his football team has. The Todd Dodge era moved us backwards. Dickey may have mailed it in the last 2 years, but Dodge didn't improve the situation. Half way through year 1 into a new head coaching staff, and Dan has won as many as Dodge in his best year. 2 more wins and the 2011 football team will have a better record than any team over the last 7 years. Just think about all of the students that have passed through the doors of UNT in that span. I expect a couple of down years, but a couple of down years should still win a minimum of 4 games for us to not be embarrassed about the state of the program. I guess if we start scheduling these 2 teams, we better make for damn sure we beat them. I don't care who their coaches are or what league they play in. Losing to them can hurt us tremendously.

The TX/OU game is at 11am. You can't get any better in the central time zone, and there really is no excuse for that ruining attendance. None. Even if you go to the game, you should be able to make it back to Denton for the UNT game. I have to be at a wedding tomorrow night at 6:30. So you can imagine my frustration. This is the only place I can vent about it too. (facebook friends and friends of friends). People... October to the end of the year is off limits for weddings. Period. Don't be selfish, move your wedding, you and your guests will have a better time. Huge weekend for sports fans in this city. What the hell were you thinking.

I can tell you from experience, most absolutely, yes. Every local station can be received from the convenience of your own tailgate using this setup. And with better quality than anyone's satellite or cable signal.
-
This is Truth. I can't stop buying season tickets.
-
So, if I am to buy the assumption that TCU will be on the bottom of the Big 12 moving up, then UNT should be at the bottom of CUSA or MWC should we move up. I'm sorry that I don't buy into that theory. TCU will recruit and win big in their new conference. They will be competitive from day 1 and Fort Worth will be one of the top locations to recruit to in the Big 12.

He who finds the open letter that Dan McCarney sends the NT Daily before every else gets all the +1s. Give Dan Mac the +1. Can we create an account in his honor/name and track the opinion of the board on how he's doing his job?
-
No, if he's in and the starter, you have to go with him. They played it right after he was in. You're right, it is easy to second guess, and you can't really say that people shouldn't. I wonder how bad Osborne has looked in practice or how good McNulty has looked for McNulty to have been the clear favorite. It's really, really easy to second guess when you can't watch those practices or get updates about them. Even the most trustful fan of Dan McCarney is validated in wondering about what's going on. Not that it's bad, but just how good or bad have they looked? Like I said, I don't have a problem with him playing. Hell, his red shirt is burned, he needs to get playing time and often. I just question this start. It might not have changed the outcome of the game. You're right, chances are it wouldn't. I too, think Tulsa is better than their record is. Though, In a game like that, you can question everything. The QB just gets the most visibility when they throw INTs. Running game wasn't working all that much... The goal line play calling... There were other things, I'm sure. It's too bad this one wasn't on ESPN3, because it probably would have painted a clearer picture.
-
It's not that surprising to see some folks questioning leaving a true freshmen in to throw 2 pick-6s on our own side of the field. Seeing what he's got isn't exactly a great excuse. There will be games at the end of the season or games that get out of hand that you could work him into. Yea, it's not the same as starting, but it is playing in a game in more than just goal line situations. I'm not that upset about a true freshmen throwing pick 6s, I'm just upset that the game got out of hand. And you really can't blame anyone for questioning that. There's no defending it. You just hope the kid doesn't do it again and gets better. Not unlike Tony Romo.

DRC: McNulty grateful for start
MeanMag replied to ScreamingEaglesFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Good Points. I'd also like to add that if you read the posts regarding Vito on this board, you have some folks that think he needs to ask more pointed and controversial questions and saying he's lazy, and then you have those that are mad at him for bringing up the past bad records, and not blowing more sunshine and only want him focusing on the good points. This guy can't win. He's always doing something wrong. Yea, he gets paid, but he's probably not getting close to being a millionaire on this beat. Give the guy a break. -
DRC: McNulty grateful for start
MeanMag replied to ScreamingEaglesFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe Vito did ask. I would like to know the answer too, but jumping to the conclusion that Vito is a lazy sports writer is kind of premature. This isn't OU or Texas where a particular sports writer might have more leverage or the ability to gain more leverage. There are only so many readers and not many writers. Vito and the fan base to be honest, doesn't have the luxury of pissing off the staffers.
