We were excited about Franklin because he was a potential leader. Zo, Ked, Holmen better be doing some serious schooling behind closed doors. What makes you think Holmen was impressive? I agree with your thoughts on Niko.

No one saw this one coming, obviously. I agree with the cockiness of the team. Need to play smarter instead of trying to out talent people. I might agree with the coasting. I hope they don't get used to that shit and stand around to watch Tony win games for us.

Could the reason it was a top 30 class because we had quantity?

UTA couldn't miss, and they forced a young team to deal with tons of pressure. Their defensive intensity was there. UTA is a good team, and might be one of the few this year that could match our size. They may be in it come tourney time. They have the horses and the coaching. Their stage sucks ass for opponents, and I doubt our young guys played in anything resembling that in HS. Good riddance. All of these are excuses for a terribly officiated, terribly played game for North Texas. Such a shitty night, but like I said last week, it's a long road trip and hopefully when they return, they've got some things figured out.

Maybe this game and this photo can live in UNT lore as the day we beat Western Kentucky and we can look back on it fondly 25 years from now and think of where our program could have been had the refs not screwed us out of a touchdown.

But without LSU on the schedule as the first game, that would mean Texas Southern would be the first. How is our team going to GEL? We can't prepare to go against a Billy S. coached team by playing a bunch of FCS patsies.

For fans like you and me, we understand that it isn't terrible. For a casual observer, getting beat by a Western Kentucky Hill Topper is comedy.

Yes, in the exhibition game Trey took the 1 and CJ was at the 2. It seems like a very good clock killing combination. I could see us breaking many presses with that.

Our top scorers last year in this game obviously aren't on the team this year. Looking at who is on the team this year that played last year doesn't tell us much (anything) either. Catlett had an average game against us last year and we held Bo Ingram to only 6 pts in 24 minutes of play. UTA closed late to make the game closer than it appeared throughout. Even late in the game, I remember feeling comfortable about the game simply because we had the veteran advantage at home shortly after winning close games against Tech, Rice, and a come from behind win at Tx St. This year that advantage goes to UTA, I would think. The leading scorer for UTA was LaMarcus Reed III, a 6-5 JR swingman. This year he's a SR and should see significant PT against us again. Hogans and Odufuwa literally owned the boards and were able to block 4 shots between the 2 of them. Odufuwa had a double-double and Tristan Thompson was only 1 rebound short of one himself. I really feel like Chris Jones' offensive game is similar to Tristan's in that they get to the iron, but Jones is better at finishing where Tristan was real good at drawing contact. Not saying Jones is bad at drawing contact, he's actually pretty good. For some reason, I feel like he's not getting calls that Tristan got last year. Tristan had 29 pts last year in this game, 11 of 12 from the line and 12 from 3pt range. If Jones can get around the post players I think he can get to the foul line often enough to get them into some foul trouble. I'm really looking forward to this game and I hope that as UTA moves into the WAC and with their new stadium that this annual game continues. Keep me honest UTAMav91. Thanks for dropping by.

That's a good point. Is the Denia neighborhood going to be shut down?

To Those Questioning The Love Affair For The Tight End
MeanMag replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
He certainly wasn't juking any out of their shoes. It was arm tackles only. None of our defenders wanted to get in front of him. -
But, But, But. Frats.

Also yesterday was beautiful. Would have been a good day to do finish some lawn work before winter. Or a great opportunity to get in one last training jog before the Turkey Trot.
-
Really good attendance when you consider that the biggest game in the past decade and College Game Day was only 250 miles south.
-
Not bad considering this was the last weekend opportunity to do xmas shopping prior to the holiday shopping season when there's tons of people out.
-
MAC crowds are worse. But, I am on board with a move to the WAC with Texas State and UTSA, NMSU and LATech. We have got to change something. We are getting nowhere in this conference. But damnit, we have to win. Losing to these teams is TERRIBLE.
-
Considering this was opening weekend for the new twilight movie, not bad at all.
-
The WAC and Southland are even more terrible. You're right, we need to get out of this conference. But we have to start beating the teams in it like they just slept with your sister. Especially the ULM, ULL, WKU, MTSU, FAU, FIU of the world. Ark St and Troy, for some reason are the only 2 other schools they seem to recognize.
-
I still get questioned and looked at cross wise when people find out that UNT and all the schools in our conference are in the same football "division" as UT, OU, LSU, Bama. Most just assumed that all the schools in our conference are D2.
-
Don't know if you've checked out schedule against the rules, but I'm quite certain that we are in compliance and that we weren't the reason those rules were put in place...
-
We need someone not named Chris Jones to be able to hit 3's. Chris would be able to create big time opportunities for a person like that. Who is that on this team? Could it be Stojilikovic? Trey Norris? Someone has got to hit those good looks at least 50% of the time.
-
We have the luxury of being quite a bit better than quite a few college basketball teams. We can afford to act like a big-time program the first game or 2 of the season and schedule someone to help us work out our kinks. If we don't have a good enough rpi, it won't be because of St. Gregs.
-
You're right. It was their home court, their home cooking. In a match of 2 fairly even teams the home team normally gets the benefit. We got it last year.
