  1. I think you're right. Tournament MVP was the only award handed out after the conference tourney.

  3. You might be thinking of football. There are some games that are agreed to in principle. UTA every year is an example. The dates are less firm. The tournaments are a little more firmed up in advance as well. I was hearing rumblings of the cali tournament shortly after Hot Springs last year, if I remember correctly. But for the most part, dates and teams are subject to change until just up to the last minute in most cases. I understand LSU wanted to move up the game against us so they would not have to deal with Tony Mitchell, but don't know how accurate that was/is.
  4. Sometimes I wonder if you read the same board I do. I don't think I've ever seen anyone bash Tyler Hall on this board. Ever.
  5. You did it KRAM. I gave you a +1.
  6. Yea, I'll buy that. I thought the same thing, so I did a little research yesterday. They started school in august. Games started in Novemeber, that's 2 months worth of classes that they had time to get used to. Then I started the basketball season and found out what days we had away games on. Throughout the first semester they missed give or take anywhere from between 7-10 days of school depending on the travel days. That's a week and a half to 2 weeks of school days. Also, Tyler had mentioned twice that he had group projects that he was in cali for that his peers gave him 0's for because he wasn't there to participate. I kinda felt bad for him. These are freshmen we are talking about. I'm not saying it's an excuse for doing poorly or that the academic advisors shouldn't have kept a closer watch on them, but damn. You take a kid and move him away from his parents for the first time, tell him to play basketball and excuse him from 1/8 of his classes and throw in thanksgiving break and bam! This is habit forming.
  7. Tasty knows the rules better, but I believe they can still practice. If they can practice I hope coach Jones runs them ragged.
  8. I'm qu!te certain the coaches knew in December...
  9. Yes, Yes, Yes. Today might have been the first day we heard about this, but it's not the first day the athletic dept. knew. Hell, today isn't even the first day I knew. I follow the twitter feeds fairly closely and both the players knew they weren't doing well LONG before December. How does getting Robinson minutes all of the sudden not show that JJ had an indication that they weren't going to be able to qualify? It's obvious. He's played maybe 10 minutes combined in the first few games. Mysteriously didn't play for a VERY long time until 2 games ago. It's not coincidence. You might be right that we may have been better off sitting them, who knows? But if they were able to qualify (which to my knowledge, their last chance was today) it wouldn't have been a dumb idea to play them. The exhibition game could not have come at a better time.
  10. You can pay others to care. You can throw all the $$$ in the world at this problem and it won't be solved if there is no desire. These guys are damn good on the court, I really want them to do better so we can watch more.
  11. And I'm asking how big the dept. is. I'm not trying to argue, I just don't know what they are obligated to do in their job. If they are just supposed to be available and no one asks for help it certainly frames everything a bit differently. I'm willing to admit that I have no idea about what goes on in the department aside from what I hear sometimes.
  12. Of course they knew the situation, and probably were trying as hard as they could to get these guys to makeup work and tests from missing classes for basketball throughout the break. Today was the last possible moment that they could have qualified. Look at the 4 weeks as a grace period. Getting the team ready for an absence: Do you honestly think that putting Forest Robinson out there after sitting him for so long was what Johnny really wanted to do?
  13. I'm not saying the blame doesn't lie with them, but I'm not privy to the standards or metrics the people responsible for these things are held to in the athletic dept. If you do please share. When was the last time we had a basketball player academically ineligible and did we get any new staffers in the past few years?
  14. MT looks great. The problem with them cracking the Top 25 is the strength of schedule. Their RPI is 66 and IMO that is a legit ranking looking at the team higher than them. 66 is DAMN good, and far better than anyone else in the belt. If they keep winning, their record will be very hard to ignore, regardless of RPI.
  15. You are right, it's obvious we have the talent to win the west. But, I just haven't seen consistency yet. Chris Jones still makes some crazy good plays, but also takes some chances that I just don't think are necessary. We go on long stretches in games where we either can't stop an opponent streak, or we can't buy a bucket. Yesterday, ULM ran 3-4 guys at Tony. It led to some turnovers and no one other than Tony could make a shot at the time. I agree that the team can beat anyone in the belt. But the consistency is lacking.
  16. I agree with our 2 losses. Those games REALLY got under my skin. I'm also going to wait until the new semester starts and the guys find their class+practice+game flow until I start setting expectations for the rest of the season. With Denver on the schedule, these next couple of weeks will tell us a lot of what we have this year and whether I think we have a chance against Middle coming up on Feb 2.
  17. Yea, Walton has been getting hot and Tony is taking more 3's when he's on the perimeter. Defender takes a step forward he puts it on the floor and blows past you if you don't have help, and if you don't step up, he's just about automatic. Tough guy to defend.
  18. Link or it didn't happen. You said it prevented 3's, which is why I think it's a joke.
  19. they did run a 2-3 zone and wku was still hitting 3's. I even made a joke about it.
  20. Harry knows stuff.
  21. Keep in mind that hiring an assistant coach is usually not a "we" decision. It's a head coach decision. Our head coach has been around this game at this level for a very long time. He probably has a good idea of who he would hire after Skladany's replacement was hired away.
  22. It's blurry video, but lots of body contact against Jones on the "block" of the floater. I'm sure they called that earlier in the game... at least against us.
  23. Dominique Johnson, DoJo. But I know who you were talking about.
  24. Yes, that's what a lot of them look at. If you were an NBA scout, do you think Chris Jones is a risk? Would you take him over the top 20 point guards? Scouts aren't going to take a chance 90% of the time. They have bosses and get evaluated too. Chris is young and has flashes of brilliance, but he will work on his game and there's potential for him to be NBA worthy by the end of is career here.
