You check the recruiting board right? If not, there may be some additional info you can check out there.

Fun Thread It's interesting to look back. I found a few threads with predictions, but I think this one is the most comprehensive.

I was trying to figure out a starting 5 for next season on Tuesday night after the game. From Tuesday's starting lineup we could potentially see 3-4 fresh faces get starts. I think we see a ton of experimentation at the beginning of the season because there is so many capable guys, it's just going to be chemistry and matchups. We will have 3 guys capable of draining 3's with regularity in Walton, Overlander and Pye. 4 if Tony steps out, and 5 if Jacob keeps seeing the basket like he was on Monday night. We will be the largest team in the belt by far, and have the ability to play an outside shooting game if pressed into it. Add guys who can score close to and around in the basket in Tony, Odoh, Franklin, Holmen, Patton, Pye (slashing), Jones, Williams. You will likely see the return of the "line change" where 3-4-5 guys are subbed in and out at a time. The last time we ran that deep, we played Kansas State in the NCAA Tourney. Or, you can really sub in and out players in an attempt to find the hotter hand that night. I'd really like to see Robinson get the redshirt next year that we hoped he would this year. But if he can help, I'd expect to see him. Next year could be very special.

hip hop shit.

Had his heart ripped out. Put the pressure on himself. Give him some room. He's what, 19?

Yep.

I like Tony Mitchell. A lot. His ball handling on the wing does not pass muster in the Sun Belt. In fact, neither does Jordan Williams'. It's an aspect that they both need to work on. But, alas, they are only freshmen. They will have plenty of time to work on it. Wanna know the result of getting Tony ISO on the wing? We did it at least 3 times at the end of games where we needed a bucket to tie or win. And everyone thinks that it was a drawn up 3 point shot. I'm fairly certain it wasn't. Other than ball handling and patience, I agree, you might be hard pressed to find a flaw in Tony's game. He's so wildly talented and very athletic, it makes me wonder if sometimes I'm not used to seeing guys like him in the college game play in the Sun Belt. You have to take a step back and ask yourself, is his bounciness and raw talent masking or making up for the skill/patience parts of his game? I think at this point, it may be. Reading the scouts' comments lead me to believe they think the same.

Pye had a couple nice games recently. I'm excited about him joining the team next year. There was a stretch against Marcus where he absolutely could not miss.

2012 Hs - Brandon Pye - 6'1" Sg (A&M-Corpus Christi)

Couldn't miss to start the game when he was unguarded and his team found him. Hit a couple 3's with 2 guys draped on him. Took his man to the hole a couple times picking up a defender and still made the shot when he wasn't fouled. He can create his own shot, and he did it against a team in Marcus that is known for it's defense. Doesn't hesitate on the spot up shots off of screens and can also create his own shot when he has to. Will do nicely at the 2 and a pretty good handler as well. Had a couple of assists, but lots of guys passed on open looks. Hard to call him selfish when his team isn't taking the open looks. Could play him at the 1 if we had to. He's a little on the skinny side, but is pretty fluid. Don't know about the JJ love. Can't read your sarcasm, if there is any. -

34 points. Dallas news still mentions him as a North Texas Commit. Banyard was a beast in this game too. DMN -

Saw him and his team play FM Marcus tonight, and I put his stats unofficially at 35 pts, 2 steals and 4 rebounds in a 78 - 56 loss for Mansfield. Easily the best player on the court for Mansfield. -
UTA played Northwestern State the other day. They have also been giving away free tix to the new arena. Really getting the community involved. I was at UTA tonight for a HS BB game, and was amazed at how small the arena is. It's super nice, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting bigger from the pics. The super pit just feels more big time. Kind of feels like they tried to cram big time features into a small stadium and it comes up feeling a little short. It feels similar to the summit, but with 3 suites and the second tier is stacked. If we can get the video boards, better lights and better sounds, there's really nothing I'd be too jealous of other than the newness. Pit has nicer seats too.

I don't know about them being good only hurting us. But they could compete and win against Texas Tech (already did this season), Oklahoma, Oklahoma State. They have a good coach, I think they are on the upward swing. What we need is an opportunity to play ranked opponents at home, and not the upper tier of them either. That is why it must be essential for us to get on board with this CUSA, MWC merger.

There's always a possibility of picking up a decent player in this area. But any replacement likely will not fill Tony's shoes.

Lots of good people over there at ualr. As frustrating as it was for us last year they are a well coached team and a good group of intelligent fans. Will neighbor is the most interesting player in the conference to me after tony Mitchell. I don't even think he is playing at 100% this season and he is killing people including us in the first game. We played him well this last game and I don't think it's a coincidence that we won because of it. On topic: both Jordan and Chris were turnover prone in their short stint with us. Uta was able to take full advantage with their athletes. Ull, fau and middle might have been nightmares. Do I think we are a better team without them? No, i think there would not have been so many close games. I think some of these close losses turn to close wins and some of the close wins grow in margin of victory. It would have just been more frustrating to watch, and maybe only because they were freshmen. They will be huge assets going forward.

Where would UNT be without Alzee Williams?
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I dont know what you've seen from alzee that makes you think he won't do it next year. This isn't some flash in the pan performance. It takes skill to be able to do what he did against middle. His freshmen year toward the end of the year he was able to put together some really impressive games for a freshman. I remember thinking he was going to be good because he had so many tools and room to grow. He's probably been a surprise to some this year, but probably only because he didn't play last year. If he did play last year, I think we make the tourney. The only thing that might have hurt his playing time 2 years ago was our depth at the position. He is the single best decision maker and cerebral player on the court this year for us. He doesn't try to overplay and he plays patient and fundamentally sound. There is absolutely nothing not to like in his game other than his jump shot can disappear for stretches, but he seems to understand what else he can do for the team in those stretches. All of these things aren't something that just go away in an offseason or playing too many minutes. Im so happy the guy is a sophomore. -
I'm thinking the same thing. If we lose and USA wins their last we are tied and should hold the tie breaker?

All the schools around here have their drawbacks. TCU could compete with Texas Tech and maybe Oklahoma this year. They are having a nice little season, but I don't really see how they can make the tourney in the big 12 anytime soon. SMU has been downright dreadful in the past few games. It's like us against UTA, but for about 3 straight games now. If they make a splash hire, good luck getting anyone to notice. The attendance is terrible. More than the schools in this area that are joining new conferences, I'm concerned about the other teams in those conferences coming in a poaching some of the talent of the area. The thought of Big East teams parading through Dallas sucks as much for SMU as it does for us. UTA has a nice new stadium, but the students that go there consider themselves University of Texas fans first and University of Texas at Arlington fans second. The name and vague association with Austin justifies in many students eyes, that they should root for UT Austin. Arlington will never be a college town. It has too many other sports less than 5 minutes from campus that will run it. I've been impressed with what Cross has done. I'll be really impressed if they can make a run in the WAC. But again, I like the move for them, because if we continue playing them annually they will help our RPI with their conference schedule. Then there's us, which if the biggest drawback we can point to is facilities, I think we are doing alright. We've been addressing every facility except for the super pit, and in my mind, it's really only a matter of time. Rumor is that the dept has already brought in contractors to replace the end scoreboards with HD boards the entire length and size of the ones now. Hopefully there's some audio thrown in there, but if not, it shows that they are addressing some of the known deficiencies. We have the best recent tradition of winning and can send a player to the pros and it's already obvious that scouts know how to get to Denton. Of course there should be a list of things to improve on. Some more expensive than others. Some glaring weaknesses such as hosting the LSU game, and the problems Cooley pointed out. I think we're in a good place, but now is not a time to sit back and be content with what we've got. The pit needs upgrades.

Having a new arena does not change the atmosphere to be on par with those programs. The people do.
-
Both of those years we didn't bring an LSU, OSU, Texas Tech to the Pit.

Okay, I just read that OU is opening...
MeanMag replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
OU already will be playing 2 games in DFW every other year. - Texas - TCU They play 6 home games about 2 hours North, one about an hour and a half south (Baylor), and one about 3 hours south (A&M). In any given year, I'd say DFW OU fans have about 8 opportunities to travel less than 3 hours to see their team play. -
Plenty of people have pointed out that while JJ is not without flaw (aka human), he did not lose the game. Not only do I find it strange to call out a poster who has not posted for the past month in this forum, but I also find it odd that it's a poster whose flaw is that he gets/got excited about the possibility that UNT has been or might be good at something. Oh, and he's put together a nice little recruiting board to keep up with the guys that we're interested in and have interest in the U of NT. I know some folks here won't be happy until we're winning national championships... but while there are likely no fans (or players, for that matter) happy with how the 2nd half of the season is going, some fans try to find happiness in less ambitious, and more realistic accomplishments. I don't think they should be chided for it.

Hall had some of the sickest passes I have seen a UNT player make.

College Basketball is a crazy thing. TCU and SMU played each other just last week. SMU won 68-62. I'll bet TCU was ready to fire Jimmy Christian after that game. This week SMU loses 47-28 to a mediocre UAB team that somehow has surprising wins over Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee. TCU, who is having a decent little season, just knocked off #11 UNLV this week. Gotta love college basketball.
