Our offensive output tonight was impressive
MeanMag replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't believe we got 3 red zone chances on one drive and only came up with 3 points. Credit to Olen for kicking 9 points worth, but when that opportunity presents itself against that team and you piss it away like that... I don't care if it's against the best defense in the nation, our offense should be able to do something when you get 3 looks at it. -
We connected on a couple slants, but with the LBs taking a step forward, sometimes it takes away that route.

1. We have 2, sometimes 3 capable backs with an offensive line that should be able to make more holes. But, when your qb isn't accurate, it's easy to stack a line. 2. See 1, qb is innacurate and limits what can be done. 3. you're right, our qb isn't accurate. That's why we throw a lot of screens, and still are incomplete. 4. Our personnel is not conducive to dodge ball any longer. We do not have more WR, unless you want to get out on the field and catch a ball. Tell me this: How many of our WR on the roster now were offered schollys prior to stepping on campus? -

Disagree. Offense is predictable because execution is weak. Game time coaching isn't terrible, but preparation on execution (practice) appears to be lacking. Coaches turtled when it was obvious execution was going to be an issue during the game. -
Play calling wasn't bad. What are you going to do when your qb is having a bad game? Run. When the running game isn't working, what are you going to do? throw. What if both don't work? Throw in a couple trick plays and easy screen/short passes.

Wrong! Thompson is making Canales look bad. Rush isn't working. Not Canales' fault. Thompson can't even throw screens properly now. -
so smug.

My view wasn't one where I could see every receiver on the field at once, so you could be right. But, there has to be a reason the 10-15 yd passes that Derek Thompson made against Kansas St weren't there. Could be Troy game planned for it and we didn't adjust. Could be Derek Thompson can't throw a deep ball without throwing it over some mountains. Could be Derek is one dimensional. Could be we need running backs involved in a passing game. But, I saw Brelan and Ivan both catch 10-15 yd passes tonight and they worked for good yardage. We have to get out of the mode of Brelan being half of our offense for this thing to work. He can't do it alone.

Or were they just wide open when Derek overthrew them?

How about starting with more than one WR who didn't have to walk on.

Really sorry you missed out on the early 2000s run. It was a fun time to be a Mean Green Student. This football team is really giving the students now something to be excited about. Hope they can keep it up.

I expected this season to be meh. I expected Macs 3rd season to really start changing things. We may be a year ahead of schedule. This team looks together.

Are you cheering for SMU today? They're in CUSA.
-
That's not bad. Are you spending a night?

I will probably drive.

Boy, I was way off... It's hard to believe but, I must admit, I sometimes don't read all of your opinions and material on this board. There's plenty of it evidently. As for what it's worth: I received +1s for my post and yours received -1s. It seems, my opinion is worth more than yours as voted on by a body of our peers.

Back on topic, If SMU can't fill tickets at $20 and they raise the $ proportionately to what the perceived demand is, then we can expect them to not sell out this game as well. I understand raising prices for more in demand game, but that is steep. I don't know comparable tickets to Big 12 games that go for that much at the point of origination unless its the red river shootout. I saw tickets from SMU's website that list for $95.00 not on stub hub - from their ticket office.

It sure sounds that way to me. Why blame the Aggie when they say, "we are leaving if UT keeps this longhorn network", and they actually do it? They were only 1 of 3 teams that left and "caused all that mess". I think it's great that aggie actually did what they wanted. Aggie is going to make money in the SEC or the BIG12 or BFE conference. I agree that it sucks we won't get to see that match-up anymore, but you can blame UT, NEB, COL as much as Aggie. Unless, by Big12 fan, you mean closet UT fan. Then, Texas is only portrayed as a guy trying to make money in a free market, and everyone else is a cry baby for leaving for a conference where member schools support each other. Maybe the conference opponents don't make a difference for UT, but the other teams are proving that they don't need Texas to do what they did before. Your points about aggie spending more in travel and losing are poor. Name any game last year that looked exactly like the Florida game and start replacing the opponent and the same thing happened. I also wouldn't call it getting their asses handed to them either. They proved they can compete with Florida, who is a middle of the road SEC team. In regards to the travel costs, are you serious? West Virginia doesn't seem close to the rest of the conference, and with prospects of the Big 12 adding Cincinnati and Louisville or Florida State, it won't get any better. Also the increase in shared TV revenue more than offset those costs, I'm sure. It sounds as tho, it's the "fans of the Big12" who are really the ones boohooing.

Ranked #5 in SI Mid Major just behind Creighton at #4. SLU's conference-mates VCU and Bulter are #3 and #7 respectively.
-
Yes, I don't really know what they are complaining about. Their conference RPI is probably pretty good too. The trouble with SLU is, they are going to have trouble finding RPI teams higher than them. I hope you are only making the point that we might be tougher than they expect us to be, and you're not making a prediction that we will in anyway control the game. This is going to be one of, if not the, toughest game on our schedule including creighton and preseason NIT. SLU was supposed to be the mid major leader last year, and I don't think they've lost too much from last year.

I'll have to agree with this one. There are some guys with size coming in, but I hope it's not at the expense of skill.

I had the chance to catch a HS playoff game in College Park Center last year. Really a nice facility. Reminds me of the the main gym in Hot Springs. Although, the Hot Springs Gym feels about twice the size. CPC is a lot smaller in person. The pics make it look big. The most impressive aspect of the game/place was that the rims were mic'd. Loved that. I ended up getting free tix to a UTA game last year, but wasn't able to use them. Apparently, anyone could get free tix last year to UTA games. I'd imagine that helped the attendance figures and the folks that just wanted to check out the stadium. Looking forward to our game this year. Had a front row to that drubbing last year. Was also at the 3OT game a couple years ago. Fun game. Also, believe UTA owes us one for the no-monitor last second debacle.
