  1. Have to agree with you here. There are plenty of students who are trying to get by in college, but when you are a piece to a puzzle at a university that brings in so much attention and money, a bone can be thrown IMO. On a more positive note: If people follow Brock Berglund on twitter, he is giving a toy to a child in need for xmas for every new follower.
  2. Now this post is a guy calling another guy cowardly for posting "cowardly" on a message board behind a fake name whilst doing the same. The Irony here is sooo delicious. Wait a second, I did it too... Now I am the guy calling another guy posting under a fake name cowardly for another calling another poster posting under a fake name cowardly for saying a guy committed a cowardly act. Oh well, just opining about opinions. Mine is but another opinion of an opinion in this sea of wide ranging opinions. If we call all posts opinions, and mention it every single time then it seems like we are all nice guys here and trying to get along with everyone while reducing the opinions others. Now, lets get back to what we were talking about earlier so I can have the last opinion on this topic...
  3. Agreed, hopefully they (players) are focused on the game rather than the scouts. But, I don't see a problem with fans sharing that info. I can't really do much about the play on the court other than donate to give our dept more money. I am very concerned with the losses too. Really hope these players start having fun soon. Losing sucks.
  4. I should hope not. It would be nice to see them come back and for us to become known to recruits as a place that it's easy for scouts to see players.
  5. I agree with a lot of what you post, but not your reduction of the early 00's. It's certainly not "Glory Years", but it's better than what my generation has seen prior or since. ArkSt fan already proved that the conference wasn't necessarily full of start-ups at that time, and although most have experienced success after ours, some of that is our perception brought on by us being so terrible since then that a few more losses would have made it mathematically impossible to have a worse run. 2002 8-5 (6-0) OOC Losses: Texas (11-2) Alabama (10-3) TCU (10-2) Arizona (4-8) South Florida (9-2) 2002 OOC Wins: Nichols (7-4) Cincinnati (7-7) The additional opportunity games for wins were obviously South Florida, Arizona (big time), and TCU. Texas and Alabama went on to win National Championships since, we all know what TCU has gone on to do and South Florida pushed for a BCS bowl game since then. Cincinnati has moved up since that time and Nichols is a nobody. 2-5 isnt stellar in OOC but in reality, it wasn't going to get much better than 4-3, making for a 10-3 year. 6 of those 7 out of conference teams are now in BCS autobid leagues. 2003 9-4 (7-0) OOC Losses: Oklahoma (12-2) Air Force (7-5) Arkansas (9-4) Memphis (9-4) 2003 OOC Wins: Baylor (3-9) Air Force and Memphis are the games that stick out here as they were winnable even though all of our losses were against teams with winning records. 2004 7-5 (7-0) 2004 Losses: Texas (11-1) Florida Atlantic (3-9) Colorado (8-5) Baylor (3-8) Southern Miss (7-5) Obviously losing all your out of conference games sucks. It sucks losing to a provisional D-1A school (FAU) and it sucked losing to Baylor and Southern Miss in the bowl game. Scheduling is still something we bitch about on this board today, but I can't remember a season since that we scheduled 3 big 12 teams. We had the loss to Baylor coming after the way we beat them in 2003, and Colorado was the game where we were without Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas had his breakout party. I look back on the losses and think you probably couldn't have expected but about 4 more wins through those 3 years. Since then, we have been abysmal no matter who we've played. I thought it was time for Dickey to go just for all of the off the field antics. He was a bitter man. But, I must give him the credit for the teams that he fielded and for making me a North Texas fan, and not just another UNT alum. Anyone can reduce those years to whatever it is you think, but it's a hell of a lot better to win than to lose to who we've been losing to since. They weren't blow your mind years, but they weren't bad either, which is what we've been since then.
  6. Of all the negative stuff I hear with my ears, gmg is a ray of sunshine.
  7. Probably aimed at me. Why didn't they give him a 1-2 year contract? Everyone knows he's leaving after half a season anyway. I'm upset we can't afford a buyout, but all I do is my part.
  8. No question, but you have to coach decision making.
  9. There's a reason parents don't let kids choose between ice cream and vegetables.
  10. It might be more expensive if they don't accept it sooner rather than later.
  11. I'll keep my opinions on what I just read to myself.
  12. If you want to talk about ending small time thinking and small time expectations and act like you're big time, the last thing you want to do is give a coach less than 5 years. If you give him anything less, you probably aren't confident enough in your hire to give him the job to begin with and need to consider someone else. It's also not uncommon for d1 programs to give 1-2 year extensions every 1-2 years to keep them at 4-5 years. The extra years are a cost of doin business at the d1 level. It is likely that anyone unt is willing to offer the job to would have gotten at least 5 years.
  13. Just signed a new contract with espn. I'd be surprised if he's not making more sitting on his ass watching an talking basketball than he would have coaching our team. I hope I'm wrong on that.
  14. Actually we didn't start really losing to Troy until Demarcus ware was a Dallas cowboy. He was just about a non factor when we played them. It's easy to run to the other side of the field.
  15. Again, it's right in line with most everyone else.
  16. 5 years is pretty standard for any coach these days I'm told. Want to give them every opportunity to have success on the recruiting trail.
  17. 10 + 10 = 20 2+4+2+2+3+5+2 also = 20 Minutes played does not indicate sub patterns or lineups.
  18. JP got in for one defensive possession, and played very well. Made a stop. Then he got one offensive possession and played pretty well. Next thing you know, he's sitting on the bench wonder what in the world he has to do better, and I've got to agree.
  19. This is one of your first 2 posts? This is a really well thought out counterpoint to what most posts here have been. Please post more, and welcome.
  20. Benford has mentioned he thinks Chris jones is really good, and lets him run the offense with no interference from him. He said this in interviews. Knowing what you know about the past and how many college games Chris has under his belt, do you think tho is a good idea? Do you think that because its Chris deciding what to do and not benford that benford is absolved from blame? Or, do you blame benford for letting that happen. Anytime in the future you want to question whether something happening is a result coaching or playing, look across the court an insert the opponents head coach in our head coaching position and ask yourself if you really think it would be happening with them in charge of our guys. Do you think Scott cross would have let that crap we saw last night continue? Do you think bob marlin would put up with Tony's attitude? Did you see the way Isaiah Thomas handled his team at fiu? Do you think they didn't have talent?
  21. I really like the mirror look of those helmets. The only thing I don't like is the nt logo, because to me it isn't official. Stick to what's already in use: eagle logo, claw, north texas. And to chime in on how I refer to unt, it's north texas. And yes it's a region and north texas is the university serving it. The guys who want to put state at the end don't bother me, and will be dead sooner than I.
  22. Hah! That's a good wish in life, albeit unattainable. We do a good job of keeping ourselves out. Tcu has absolutely no affect on unt or any other school for that matter and if u think it does, you are the one that is dilusional. Since tcu is so powerful, do you think they should ask ut and ou for a bigger slice of the tv contract? Do you think tcu could go independent like Notre dame and byu? Tcu still needs to do what got them to the spot they are in now; keep taking care of yourselves, don't make enemies, and ride Gary Patterson until his back breaks from carrying the entire school or he continues to eat too much railhead.
  23. if it ever came to allowing any school into the big 12, tcu, just like every other peon in the big 12 will bow to the proverbial king and queen of the big 12, texas and ou. If you think yours or tcus opinion on the matter matters, you are an idiot.
  24. What's a shame is that you believe that and embrace it. The tcu alums I know are beginning to loathe the students that are calling tcu home these days. To the point that they admit if they were looking for colleges today, tcu would not be an option. Doesn't mean they don't love their school, just not much love for the people that go to it.
