I think this is a first: I just hit the +1 button. Don't get used to this, kid.

TCU vs Tech..."Freshmen QB's Are Better Prepared"
MeanMag replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
No, Lets get this right. He's a sophomore RB converted last year to play QB because Pachall likes drugs. -
It was late last year too. I want to know the exact home game that we added when we dropped that "away" game at UTA that we had to collect the gate on. F, that was one freaking game I looked forward to whether we pounded them, they pounded us, or was a good damn game. 9 times out of ten in the previous regime, it was a good damn game. No Lsu at home, no texas tech at home, no osu at home. Does ou or byu return a game? Is that why they canx uta?

Are you kidding me? No way JJs schedule was that easy.

Rebuild or reload? Joking aside, this season is young. I imagine we will see at least 1-2, maybe 3-4 guys starting to emerge as the clear positional starters for next year as this season goes on to fill those holes listed above. Including QB.

It is a small part. Likely the average joes of our fan base. The more invested ones have other forums to voice displeasure. -

If turning around a team takes a long time, what makes you think turning around pessimistic attitudes doesn't? As to why we're here, and I don't mean to get personal, but what university did you attend? -

Can't sit him for that. He brings too many other things to the table that the guys behind him might not have. Watch how many plays he is in position to make a play on. We just need him to keep some awareness and get those hands up. He's got the wheels to get himself to wherever he needs to be. -
Rumors flying around again about saban to UT.

They'll probably end up hanging around until the end.

Everyone makes fun of it. Even the people that post here. The fun part is when someone new shows up and thinks they have an original idea or some prophetic statement to "all" the gmgers that's going to magically change things, not knowing that we've all been where they are now a time or 2 before them. It's the truly stupid and ignorant individuals that don't figure that out after a couple months that end up getting the centrum silver posting bans. Welcome to the board and fandom. Try not to overreact to the overreaction. -
Oklahoma State About to be Hammered by Sports Illustrated
MeanMag replied to KRAM1's topic in Mean Green Football
Was rumored to have continued under Gundy. Also that there were sexual favors performed to recruits by their hostesses. I'm sure we'll get the story soon enough and that none of it is true, of course. Just words written to sell papers. -
Obviously, I don't think we could go 80 yds in 1:30, otherwise we'd have done it. What I am saying is that most coaches would have done the same thing McCarney did in that situation. Let's say you call a timeout on prior to 3rd down. There's 3 things that can happen, you hold them, they get a first down or a touchdown. 2 out of those 3 things means you wasted that timeout and the third means you have to use a second timeout. Lets say the first thing happens (it did - we hold them). If the other 2 had happened it's game over without that extra timeout. It's likely game over with them, anyhow, as we saw, but that's the right call in that situation, so stop making a big deal out of one timeout decision. The fact is our db let up 2 big plays, our oline was whipped, our rbs were indecisive and our qb was inconsistently accurate. Next time we should just use all of our timeouts on the first series of the game to give ourselves more time the rest o the game. Then there's no debating about when to use them at the end of it either. If you assume every play happens exactly as it did and you use the timeout on 3rd down then Thompson throws and int and Ohio is burning a about 45 seconds extra off the clock that we can do nothing to stop.
-
I was also surprise and impressed that we were able to have the ball at the end of a game with an opportunity to win after being down the entire game. Disappointed as I'm sure the players and coaches are at the mental lapses and mistakes. The Ohio defensive line whipped our experienced oline. And with how experienced our o line is the mental mistakes and whipping should not happen.

Yes, they did call the timeout after 3rd. Very quickly. We had 3 timeouts on their drive and 2 when we took possession. Emmitt nailed it. You want those 2 timeouts when you have the ball, because you have to use one for a fg to tie if they missed. If they scored a td after you use a timeout you are now down 2 scores with only 2 timeouts. This was not a mistake. You want to go the length of the field needing a td to tie with 1 timeout in 1:30? No thanks, ill take 2 timeouts. Either way, it doesn't make a difference, hence why it's a minor detail. Also we lost the last timeout on the challenge.

The Things That Made a Difference Tonight

How about the jail break blitz where we get pressure force a lame duck throw and our cb doesn't turn around or put up his hands? Just a bit more awareness in that situation would have been huge. Also the one series where we throw 3 times in a row and don't complete a pass... That was key. -
That's not a big deal to me, generally you want the timeouts when you are on offense in that situation. I thought he made the right move there. What he didnt count on was the interception. It was obvious we were going to have to drie the field at that point anyway and even if you are only down three you'd need at least one timeout to get the fg unit ready. Out of all of the things that happened, this one was very, very minor, if relevant at all.

Would love to hear some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

We threw one series on 1st 2nd and 3rd downs and didnt even complete one pass for the 2.9 yd avg we had up to that point. -
At one time there was probably 25k in their seats with another 5-10k under the stands cooling off. They also allow people to go in and out of the stadium during the game and id say there were another 5-10k in the parkin lots still. The heat probably did more to make it look terrible than their record or who they were playing did.
