We are an extremely poor rebounding team. It's tough to get out and run without the ball. I thought we looked slow too, but I don't know how much having to play zone because we aren't good man defenders (and lack an inside presence) is hurting our fast break opportunities.

Perhaps someone who's responsible for giving them a clue should give them one. Don't know who that is, though.

I haven't seen any benford haters around here.

5+5 = 10 2+2+2+2+2 = 10 I think we've been over this before. Those numbers do not prove/disprove sub patterns. They only prove aggregate minutes played. With every game being being maxed 40 minutes barring overtime, you would expect when comparing player for player that they would come out close. Sub Patterns would have to be looked at on an individual sub event basis and then compared. Unfortunately, there isn't a source for that data to point to. I am also happy that Benford has found a starting 5. It only took more than half a season.

Right again. My guest at the game said that if there was a white version of Tony Benford, it would be Kermit Davis.

You are right, the coach did everything he knew how to do. Stomped his feet, flailed his arms, and pointed at guys on the bench to get them into the game. It is possible to over-coach. He's always trying to outsmart the other team with match-ups. Sometimes you have to let your players adjust on the court and fight their way out of things.

My post wasn't in response to yours in particular. Just a statement. I agree.

It's going to take a lot of time and a lot less flirting with ncaa regulations and fear of disqualification because of level of opponent for me to warm up to Benford. Anyone that says Benford is on the level of JJ is simply a trolling tool, no matter how old they are. Alzee has had some good games against MT in the past. Looking forward to watching him tonight. The fact that Benford is on the sideline and we almost forfeited a win to NCAA sanction this season is forgotten when the game starts until he calls a timeout in transition or sits a hot player...

I have never seen more than one star over Austin, and I know they've beat more than one school in a year in the big 12.

I suppose offenses are different, and I haven't seen the 14 point difference. I have the utmost respect for the DD-era teams. Chris Hurd, Cody Spencer, Kennedy, Jonas Buckles etc. I'm leaving out another NFL D lineman that played for the Giants and got kicked off the team near the SuperBowl. Forget his name. The reason I would have little respect for DD is the end of his tenure was just despicable, so that might affect your feelings. As far as pure dominance tho, our Defense from front to back was better, but our offense was for sure less productive through the air. Our OOC now is a little more winnable than it was back then, but we did have some baffling losses to transitional teams joining our conference. It's funny because that's what UTSA is as well...

You haven't looked at the facts then. How many shutouts did we have this past year? How many points per game did we surrender? This past year was good. One of the best ever at the school, and one I will remember for a long time. As dominating as this defense was this season in the 2nd half, the 2002 defense was more dominating for the entire games.

We need to get some more pitching.

Done that too...

I do all of those things.

Defensive end target to visit UNT next week, recruiting notes
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Saginaw being more DFW than down there is an understatement. It's in north Fort Worth and closer to UNT than Dallas. -
Another thread about this, I might be done reading until late July.

UTSA Board: "UNT thinks they can beat the Sith Empire"
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
More hilarious than thinking we can beat Texas is either UTSA thinking they should join the big 12 or that they should hire Mac Brown...- 40 replies

Terrible offensive mentality, and shot selection + no stops.

Same game plan we've had all year. Come out take a couple of shots to see if we can punch them in the mouth, establish the run protect the ball and open her up later on when we know what it's going to take to win. Let the defense do the rest of the work. The execution was there later in the game, not so much early in the game (like just about every other game this year). Good adjustments at half time to make sure play makers got touches and were involved. (like every game this year). Tulane and UTSA were really the games that had me scratching my head over play calling. We've got a good coaching staff with good game plans that work and get tweaks if they don't most of the time. The difference to me, this year, has been the preparation, player execution, guys staying healthy, and making plays. Kudos to the staff and players working year round to make sure they are/were ready to go. Looking forward to 2014.

No doubt. If he gets a hand on someone, they aren't going anywhere. He also does a really good job shedding blocks. There was a tackle he made at Louisiana tech after coming off of a block that was just awesome. Just need to work on those pass (interception) catching abilities. He could have scored at least 2 tds this season.

What else do you expect from someone with his history? What a joker...
