Just a player playing hard. That doesn't make Carlos a bad dude. His other antics and his loud mouth make him seem like a cancer, but not that hit.

Celebrate the New Coach but Some Accountabilty?
MeanMag replied to Mike Jackson's topic in Mean Green Football
From exchanging W2s and sitting in the cold rain to set a bar for other fans to dispute his truths to dropping season tickets when a new coach gets hired. Who are you Michael Jackson?- 12 replies

this isn't about class. It's about recruiting and making over a mil a year... He and anyone else will start asap.
-
This is what I have heard about Wisconsin fans too. $1M a year for 4 years can get you and your family pretty far ahead in life even if there are a few potholes along the way.

this thread is a joke, right?

I have not and do not plan on attending a game in Denton this year. I'm looking at the uta schedule instead. It's a 10 minute drive for me. Might as well.

Is this the fifth 10-loss season in school history?
MeanMag replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
They mentioned the same thing on the radio broadcast. Pretty discouraging. If anyone wants to know why I think RV needs to hit the road, it is because of that. Roll a dice to pick our next head coach. It's better than having that guy pick one for us. He needs to create a climate and a situation where kids want to be here. It's not just about buildings either. Recruiting is not just on coaches. -
All of this and what other people said, and really: WTF else does he have to do? Screw up a schedule 5 years from now?

It's quiet in here tonight and I think I know why
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's a bad loss, and OU certainly can't blame anyone but themselves if they get left out and I do not think they will be considered, but I think the fact that is a rivalry game may be lost on you. Arguably, Baylor's loss to OU may be the best loss, and TCUs loss to OSU may be better than that, Bedlam and the OU TCU game will tell. The fact that we are talking about the best loss, is proof that the Big12 is out probably going to be left out of consideration. -
I mean they are right... Our offensive coordinator makes damn near 6 figures more than their Head Coach. UTKFC, with their inability to get a respectable basketball arena, and decent pay for their coaches looks like a joke of a move up to this level. If they don't fix that and their head coaching position pronto, they are always going to be jokers. Whoever thinks they are out fundraising us, what the F have they been doing with their money?

his ability to extend plays, sense pressure, run, keep his eyes down field (awareness) and throw on the run is why he's the best QB for the job right now. His sometimes poor accuracy to hit the throws standing in the pocket, but increased accuracy while on the run is perplexing.

Coach Chico Embraces the fans after the UTKFC win
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We could do a lot worse than Chico. And if there were ever an athletic director that could find worse coaches... Also, this is not an argument for Chico. i just wish we knew what he was able to do when not cleaning up the messes of the athletic director. -

Thanks RV! -
One thing is for certain, it only takes a coach that makes $75k more than Larry Cocker to beat UTKFC, not $300k.

Damn, you're right. I forgot Derek was here for 5 years. -

I thought you liked Derek Thompson? -
Got to be. Surely no one would choke on a fatty like that.

I can't disagree, but Carlos Harris might. Somebody needs to put a leash on that guy. Also, thanks to Chico and the players for not letting this season be the first winless season in UNT history. The players deserve some of the credit too for bailing him out of his coaching blunders. That's the way teams and teammates are supposed to respond.
-
Chico screwed the pooch there. Also Carlos Harris needs some composure. This might turn into a clown show. smiths play to this point has nothing to do with poor clock management.

fort worth star telegram UNT athletic director under fire
MeanMag replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh, I have no doubt. I just think if I were one of them, I might think of the guy as a friend and not want to participate in calling him out for being bad at something he is doing. If they are anything like me, I will always donate at my meager level, because I truly believe in the grand scheme of college football, UNT needs donating members and season ticket holders more than any other school in the country regardless of who the AD is. My wife is an Oklahoma grad, so I guess we could give money to them as well, but UNT needs it a whole lot more. They might be in the same position, it's just a little more complicated for them to express that opinion when they and the other donors around them that might be considered friends do not share that same opinion. The most terrible situation is for our AD to become embattled between any of those classes of people.- 50 replies

MeanMag replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not so sure about that. I'm not one of those people, and I don't run in those circles, but I would imagine not all of them do. When you get into these situations, there is likely some modicum of dignity associated with a removal such as that. Some of the moneyed and scholarly types may see a problem with donating to a fairly straight forward message such as flying a banner. Especially when there is much more to lose business wise, friendship wise, etc. That type of action is normally left to our class. It becomes more of a veiled process to them. UT is just one example. There might be more going on than us peons know. It would not surprise me if we got to a logical break when perhaps a little pressure for a resignation may occur, when those and the higher ups have found or selected a successor. But, I'm just spit balling.- 50 replies

Why the UNT HC salary range is a reflection of our ambition
MeanMag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. McCarney made more than 80% of the coaches he coached against in a given season. -

I'm pretty sick of seeing the 17 referred to as apologists. My hope and my trust is that they (the 17) will make sure whoever succeeds Rick Villarreal is the best candidate for the job and someone they can continue to be happy with. And, that they will give him the same or better resources that they gave Rick. They are not stupid individuals, they understand that Rick Villarreal will not be around forever.- 50 replies

Maybe someone from the FCS level. Even the best coaches at that level would double their salary moving here, there's a potential for a quick extension and you only have to beat half of the bottom quarter of D1 teams. There are plenty of reasons.
-
Even if we didn't put a new AD in place, he hands out extensions when a stiff wind blows through his pants. That has to count for something. Just be .500 or better and don't be a dick to your boss, and you can keep a job for a long, long time with that guy. It shows we are willing to extend and pay out raises... I just don't know how much looking at that buyout, his age, and health had to play with DMAC mailing it in, if that can be said about the guy. I also don't think the extension was necessary at that point. He had proven nothing.
