I'll argue that there is a huge difference when taking avg. yards per game between -4 and 15 yds. Thats a difference of 20 yards per game. That's HUGE. I'll also take issue that a (+) plus sign in front of yards rushing is way better than a (-) no matter how many yards are behind it. Stop comparing them to each other, they aren't anything alike. Is this supposed to make me feel better about Meager being the starter? Because I don't and given the choice I would take Bomar. If Meager played for OU, he'd be sitting 5th string for 4 years watching Paul Thompson do his thing while holding Stoops' Caffine Free Diet Perrier, if he didn't get hurt first. I'm not saying Meager is a bad QB, although I wouldn't argue with anyone that said he was. It's just assenine to compare the 2. So some stats are close... they have played the same amount of time in CFB, they play the same position. I bet there are more QB's than just him who have similar stats. Maybe Rice, Navy, who knows, I'm not gonna look up stats because it's BS. Hell, take any innept offense in the nation and compare them. Fact, and I hate OU, and I would love for this not to be true: THIS YEAR: OU beats and gets beat by good teams. THIS YEAR: NT barely beats crappy teams, and gets beat by teams we shouldn't lose to, slobberknocked by good ones. For some reason we want to compare a 4yr old midgets manhood with Yao Ming. Someday, we will get there. There are too many folks that want to see this program do well. But until we get there, spare us these outrageous comparisons, that don't mean anything, please. And put away the "Meager for Heisman" signs because he is seviceable, just like any QB during Dickey's era has been.

Both went to and graduated from highschool Both go to college and play quarterback Both have mothers Both are on this planet Yep, they're similar alright, but who cares? What's the point? It's very apples and oranges They (OU) still beat and get beat by good teams.

I'd say we need to take a serious look at what our strength and conditioning coaches were doing, and take a look at what our line coaches are teaching. Do they teach techinique? Our lines aren't small guys. They're getting BEAT. Change techniques. Change footwork. Change blocking schemes. TEACH something. What was this team doing in the off season? No, really, were they not in the weight room? Some weren't making the grades? Are we losing discipline? Do we want to win? Sometimes I question the motivation of the players and the coaches. We should expect more from ourselves, I expect the players and coaches to do the same.

Mean Green seeks scores, QB to compliment
MeanMag replied to MootPoint's topic in Mean Green Football
As I have said before, Rian Johnson is the best writer for the daily I have seen in a long time, if ever. -
that should read THE playmaker, Quinn. Nobody including running backs has given me a reason this season to think otherwise.
-
Rian Johnson is probably the best team writer I have seen from the daily ever.

Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools
MeanMag replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
A year or 2 ago, OU was looking to raise student fees and tuition because they were going to have an academic shortage do to the misappropriation of funds in that states government. The AD raised ticket prices i think 2$ or 3$ a ticket to pay 3 million $ into the school academic budget. -
Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools
MeanMag replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, then screw the Cowboys and all 5 of their championships. They were all bought. I can't beleive I rooted for a team with a lot of money. What was I thinking? I think Rick's point of view is that he fears change and thinks maybe that UNT should cut back it's budget. If we ever spend that much on football or have millions of fans, Rick can't be a fan. I saw it written somewhere... at the top of this thread. Rick, I really admire what you do for this board and the program, keep it up. I don't disagree that maybe that type of spending is disgusting to us now, but if it were reversed I really wonder what your opinion would be. Just as a little comparison, our athletic budget is 12 mil right? UT's is 80 mil. It sounds about right if you look at the size of our stadium, alumni base, FANS and winning seasons. They sell out just about every game, and they charge good money for those tickets. We can't understand what type of cash cow football is for that school, because it has never been an issue for us. Everyone around Austin loves the Longhorns, It is the only major team there. Everyone buys the merchandise and gets spoonfed Longhorns because it is a one man show down there. MERCHANDISE SALES ARE HUGE FOR UT. Why wouldn't they keep pumping money into it if they can turn a profit? I bet if we compared the budget/people who consider themselves fans ratio NT would come out on top. -
I will not be such an ass....and I will run for cover after I am done. The more the merrier. I was in your situation reversed. I grew up in Austin. Spent most of my younger days going to UT football and basketball games. Lived there for for a long time. I loved UT. Parents moved to Dallas, went to UNT because it was convenient. I started going to some games and love UNT now. Just because I am a North Texas fan doesn't mean I am not a huge Texas fan. I guess you could call Texas my "pet" school as someone else put it, but they really aren't. If My folks hadn't moved I'd be at UT. I don't understand why this isn't okay with people on this board. Does this make me a fake UNT fan? If going to every home game but 2 or 3 since I started school at UNT makes me a fake UNT fan, I'm fine with that. I bet you are too, because it looks better on TV when I'm there. (and yes I am that good looking) I am a REAL UNT fan, right? I am also a REAL Texas fan, no? There has never been any animosity between UNT and Texas. Never any rivalry. I do not go around wearing UT stuff on campus anymore, nor do I have a problem with some of my friends who do. They still come to the UNT games. Hell, they even go to different Denton area highschool games every Friday night. So it's okay for folks to be a Texan, cheer for both a Texas school and one that is outside of Texas that doesn't receive taxes and such from other Texans? Screw that, I want those Washington people and Ohio State people and California people to know that Texas is better than every single one of them. I hate A&M, TTech, but if they're playing against any college from state other than Texas, I'll pull for the Texas school. I'll take any type of fan to no fan, and you people should do the same and not be so obtuse about the matter.

Anybody else have to deal with entrance to...
MeanMag replied to kj86's topic in Mean Green Football
This was BS, Was this lady by Santa Fe? If it was That lady told me the same thing. So I drove to the next entrance and those people were more than happy to take my 10 bucks to let me park. This was at 9:30am. I dropped some cars off with some friends to make sure I had a spot, and came back later. This also kinda got my blood pumping -

My comment with him being a senior concerned his experience with the game situation. He has seen MT beaten 4 times in a row. He was there to make sure there wasn't any mental mistakes and to point out nuances that may arise. I think that Cobbs has really become a student of the game and is becoming a wise mentor. Kudos to the freshmen for not making many mental mistakes. Again after just one game, I cannot believe this topic has arisen. -
Smith I would think should get the start. There was one play in particular during the OU game where he was about to take a sack after the pocket broke down and was able to place a perfect throw, I think it wa to Mills, which made an unthinkable catch. Should be real fun to watch. There was also a post on the Tulsa board that said if neither of our RB's broke 200 then they are not the real deal and Petereson and Maroney are better. While I do think that Peterson and Maroney are amazing and get over 200 yds almost regularly, I don't think that having 2 backs of this caliber means either of them should get over 200 yds rushing. I would rather see them both combine for over 200 yds. Ideal situation would be they combine for 300 yds total. If they can both get about 150, I would be very even more impressed than just one going over 200.

It was one game, stop complaining. It is was more important to have a senior in there in the first game. Besides, there is already a thread about this... -
Is UNT Too Powerful For The Sun Belt ?
MeanMag replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
"I say throw them in the SEC and see how lucky they get in that conference" This comment was intelligent. Why would someone say that? I don't get it. Is he implying that if we were in a better conf. our "luck" (really want, will, and talent of our players" against his team would run out? Here's my comment, I say throw them in the SEC and see the "unforced" fumble column quadruple -
I'm not saying all of them were, and in the redzone you look to force turnovers anyway, even if they weren't. Do you have a photographic memory? Or did they actually choose to show 5 replays of an NT interception in the Buro so that you could actually see what happened through beer goggles?
-
Meager should have had 3 picks in that game. He should be thankful Quinn saved his butt a couple of times while being sick, no less. No way he is better than Andrew Smith. Smith was a leader, and had a very cool head.
-
I like the old scrappy's head

You can't possibly tell me that all 5 were unforced. Coverage sacks were coming and Marks made the wrong decision in trying to get rid of it. We forced some bad throws. Our D played in position. very good job on D. Meager needs TONS more reps. Mt's defense looked good, LBs were very well coached to counter out running game. Don't expect many more games where we get shut down on the run like that. Your argument for us not being there is absurd. I saw on replay 5 times how the interceptions were forced. We dodged 3 bullets, everytime Meager tried to throw over 20 yards the ball was underthrown and had bad placement. MT defenders need to get way better on their catching skills. Dickey and flanigan i think will do a good job giving Meager the confidence he needs. Biggest loss will be against LSU.

wow, i dont agree with a word you just typed.
