You know, I see everyone's point about perception and what it means to donors to get rid of Dickey. I understand it to a point, but where I get lost is when we start talking about replacements. I know you guys want to give this football team a facelift with a new coach, but it's not going to change much. I doubt because we fire a coach a huge donor is going to build a stadium for us. (Unless one of the detractors on this board has a few mil burning a hole in their pocket) So we get a new coach in here, with what little money we can offer them after we buyout Dickey's contract. What then? Do we automatically win every OOC game only to lose conference games? Do we automatically jump into the top 25 because we hired a no name coach for peanuts? "You can crap in a box and put a guarantee on the outside, but all your buying is a guaranteed piece of $#!^." A facelift does nothing. Our best bet is with Dickey right now, even after ONE bad season. He knows these kids, he's the one who got them to come here. If someone new were to come in there is no telling what team moral would be. He has trust and relationships with these kids. I am sure we would have an equally bad or worse season next year if we did get rid of Dickey. I don't know why dickey detractors think dickey supporters are happy with how the season turned out. Dickey deserves a right to coach next year, and I will be supporting him, with both eyes on the scoreboard. If it doesn't get any better next year, then it's open season.

I don't get what business we have complaining about the lack of OOC wins, when we can't win conference this year. I didn't hear much of that when we were winning in conference games. First things first guys, we need to win the ones we are supposed to.

DRC today NT trying to figure out what went wrong

As long as both teams play on the same field, if we're slower than them it's not the field that's the problem... -

We have to complain about something.... -
As long as there's tailgating, and a chance to be competitive, yes.

It deserves to be said.

I understand the frustration with the season, we are all frustrated. Dickey did make us show up to play against Texas and OU a few years ago, we got a win out of Baylor, should have beat Arizona, Air Force, Memphis, beat Cincy. I honestly think he knows what he has to do to get us to that point. I admit, sometimes I wish he were a little more ambitious with trying to sell the program, but, we all should be. He gets paid to coach, not to be a 1 man marketing team. You think he likes to not have a bonus for winning the conference at the end of the year?

What I'm trying to point out though, is that for them to expect to be able to hang with those guys is fine for them. They've done it before. I know USC is high-powered too. To expect Dickey to take us from D1-AA to being instantly competitive with the best teams in D1 is rediculous. Until this year, he has had us on a track of building to that point. We took a step backwards this year. From all the interviews and his thoughts on the matter, it seems he understands this pretty well. Fresno also has other things I wish we had. We had been getting more national exposure, remember the beginning of this season? Fan base was growing, and im sure a donation base as well. It's like the stock market plan long term, after rising we had a step back, now hopefully we can right the ship in the coming year.

Care to elaborate? I had a friend approached in the Rec that was asked to try out, I think by another player. They can't be that close minded to walk-ons?
-
Fresno state is also going bowling. They beat conference teams this year. Are you implying that you would rather be Fresno State for the past 4 years? No doubt I wouldn't mind being them this year, but being a contender every single year is only something the best of the best can be. Ex: USC, TEXAS, OU, FSU, MIAMI, 4 SBC titles meant we got a new scoreboard, new turf, new athletic center, and new hope for success in football. Thank you Dickey. It is a very good start. But if you think that over night WE should be able to hang with the high-powered longhorns after never being able to accomplish an upset outside of a couple games, even pre-Dickey era, you are going to be left disappointed.

Good stuff

I like them making comments aimed at GMGers. It means we're being influential, over the top rediculous, and listened to. Not bad for GMG.com to get airtime, they read us the same way we listen to their broadcast. This is a nice cross section of what North Texas fans think.

Maybe he considers himself an engineer these days. He probably will need a hard hat from all the flying tortillas.

Dangit Dub, right when I tricked everyone into thinking I was you You have to come back and rain on my parade... Guess I'll have to aspire to be someone else on this board now. Maybe I'll become a really tasty Greek

Every single college football team I watch has at least 1 or 2 players from the metroplex, and about 4 or 5 from Texas. Our recruiting is pitiful in the DFW area, I agree, but when the whole nation grabs a handful of these players it's obvious why we only get a few as well. The trouble is EVERYONE in the nation watches plenty of the HS playoffs here and sees that it is plentiful. Unless you're a UT, A&M, Tech, or OU, you're only going to get a few. It usually makes no difference if they're in our own backyard or not. The fact that these kids play in the metroplex makes it very easy for them to get offers to BIGXII schools when they otherwise probably wouldn't. Most of the kids on our team now, I would consider being in our backyard.

Yea, I don't know about the engineers either, but he sounded pretty upset with them. Sound engineers maybe?

HAHA very, very nice

I've always wondered what kind of fans we would be if we were to have a losing season... I hope Arky wins. Good luck and I'm sorry it's not on bourbon this year. Just won't be the same.

You may be able to point to that game, and say, "I told you so". I don't think Dickey should be kicked to the curb (hardly a lover or apologist) But, if we don't get OOC games won, SMU being the most importan,t and lose just 1 sunbelt games next season, He should be fired. Everyone I've seen on this board who don't think Dickey should be gone yet, are all saying, "Next season is when we make the decision." You're not going out on a limb or giving a hot sports opinion by saying that.
-
If you know the answer then, why ask?
-
Dickey won't be going there. Brent Venables is the front runner for that job.

Do you think by not making the jump to the WAC and getting rejected for CUSA membership, that we may have shot ourselves in the foot recruiting wise? Did DD promise a jump in conferences to some of the recruits that left? And what does it say to a recruit when we in effect, "want to stay in the sunbelt", over jumping at a WAC invite? I'll be the 1st to admit that I don't want to be in the WAC either, but are we showing that we would like to move up eventually? Is the WAC really the next step in the ladder? Should it be considered a necessary evil to play western teams in order to move? It's really no wonder LA. Tech didn't accept a SB invite.
