  1. I disagree, WKU isn't that unheard of. I think it's a matter of video availability. If we were to actively help the tv stations regularly, not for just one or 2 games, then they will look our way more often. when A&M's bball game isn't on TV they get satellite time and send highlights of the game. Again, this is how NT's 1 point loss was shown on local news. Anyone else tired of us depending on other schools to get our media coverage? Southern Illinois has a great broadcasting program, the students do the game, and one even does color. They get a sat feed and broadcast their games that way. That is SIU Salukis.
  2. Not the case at all. It is a matter of what I stated earlier. No Video = no score on TV.
  3. Let me tell you a little bit about why SMU WOMENS and TCU WOMENS PRACTICE get more TV coverage than NT who has a better record. Since TV is a visual media, it is best to have pictures to go along with a story. Simply showing a scoreboard and stating the score does not cover the visual aspect. We need video. NT needs to buy satellite time. I only know about channel 9, but they had highlights the other night because Western Kent. was smart enough to buy sat. time. I don't know if the athletic media director forwarded sat coordinates to them or not, but the fact of the matter is that a sat. feed does not ever happen unless whoever we are playing pays for it. It's only happened a couple of times this season. Bottom line is, if you want to see Mean Green basketball, or football for that matter on local news and have games on TV then someone (alumn, school, group, whatever) needs to pay for it. If WKU can do it, then it can't be all that expensive. I think this would be a huge step to solidifying our position as "the leading university in the metroplex", and NCAA D-1. It might even help in recruiting... this is how other universities do it, use WKU as an example, or UT, or A&M, or OU. It's not a matter of having enough cameras at the game. There are already cameras at the games for the internet feed right? The trouble is this feed is not high enough quality to be put on broadcast. So, if we are already shooting the game, why can't we send that to a satellite, or find some way to get it to a network at a quality that isn't compressed. This is why we are lumped in with TX STATE, SHSHU, UTA. It's because we continue to act and think small.
  4. Did they have highlights and no score? BTW channel 9 had both.
  5. There were signs ALL over campus yesterday, especially in the commuter lots. Enough to make me say, wow, "that's a lot of signs."
  6. Hey, Galojay thanks for the info. And, yes, I am getting a little ahead of myself, I guess the Sunbelt berth runs through Murfreesboro.
  7. Talking about this is like beating a dead freakin horse. You don't want to get into an argument about this because you can't win, no matter what side you are on. There is no "setting a poster straight" on this topic. Attendance sucks across the board when you look at how many students and alumni are in the metroplex. Those 31k students probably are just as busy as the 100k+ alumns who live in the metroplex. With 31k+ students the pit and fouts could be filled every game, and then there would be no space for you. Or you and all the other alumns in the metroplex could make it out and then there would be no space for the 31k+ students. There is no arguing this topic, because it is stupid and down right rediculous to argue from one side or the other. And THAT is "setting the record straight." And, if you look at top 25 football games across the nation at other schools, I think you will find more alumns at games than students. Don't take offense to any of the comments about alumn v. students, you'd think that poster kicked your dog or something. If you were there, then he probably wasn't talking about you.
  8. I am a little confused with the regional thing. The Sunbelt Men's team berth plays in TN, at least that is where the bracket on ESPN.com puts last year's winner, LaLa. Is this the same if another team wins the conference and for this season? Using this same line of thinking, I looked up the women's bracket and it has last years' winner, MidTenn played at Reunion Arena right here in Dallas. So, if our women were to get the berth, would they take that slot and play at home? So I guess my real question is, how do they determine where these games are played and is there any bit of a chance that in the 1st round of the tourny we might get a chance to watch the game from somwhere close? OKC, Houston, Dal, Austin?
  9. I have mentioned before that in the business of athletics it's going to be about getting your name out there. If RV wasn't applying for jobs his career may become stale, and underpaid. Applying for positions to what us seems like a lateral move is sometimes a way of keeping UNT honest with how much they are paying him, and gives people one more name to throw around when talking about the higher paying jobs. It is smart career-wise to keep getting your name circulated, it doesn't neccesarily mean he is actively pursuing another job, and he certainly shouldn't be treated as a traitor for doing such.
  10. I'll tell you why I think Greenbat's post may not be the smartest, and why I don't support the thinking expressed in his post. I think it's easy to be critical of the guy who is most visible. As outsiders it is very easy to look at RV and say, "well he's just not doing enough because he didn't raise $XXX,XXX,XXX dollars." We as supporters of the program, would like to place blame on his shoulders, instead of the thousands of other alumns (non-supporters) that don't make a trip to Denton for a single game. It's even easier after the type of football season we just had to start pointing fingers. He is right about one thing though, and that is that UNT deserves a hard working individual that would like to see the university at the very highest level. I hope one day to get a UNT alumn in the position. He has done some great things here where before him, just haven't gotten done. Had he not shown up, those things probably wouldn't have gotten done. And, I am sure that he will do things that probably wouldn't have been taken care of, had he not been here. We might not be playing D-I football right now. UNT is known for doing the most with the amount of money it receives and the athletics department is no different. I choose not to blame Rick for the alumnus apathy and generations of apathy before him. He has done a great job thus far, and shouldn't be damned for delivering a dream for a division I football field, where in the past no one thought it could be done. You labeled him a liar for not producing 95 million dollars out of thin air? Money doesn't grow on trees, and if you are going to hold him liable for that, then you my friend will be my next vote for AD, president, and god. Hopefully he hasn't given up on it, because I think that he can make it happen, even when putting up with some of the crap rumored to go on in the administration and faculty. He probably looked at the enrollment base, the alumnus base, and what other schools are able to raise and thought it to be an attainable goal. He probably didn't know some of the hurdles he has had to cross were there.
  11. The latter half of our conference schedule doesn't look too great. we play W. Kent., Den, Laf, south ala. and Troy i think all away. We need to become a great road team for the last 2 weeks this season.
  12. Dissapointments- our Free throw percentage, and not passing the ball a couple of times when on a 3v1 fast break. Instead a couple of times we took it to the rack hard with 2 other teammates wide freaking open, got fouled (good), but we didnt get the bucket and then missed a free throw. I would rather get the sure 2 than the and 1, even though it creates electricity. Our biggest problem right now is not ball movement, not ball handling and protection, but it's taking the smart shots, or waiting for them to happen. Also, there were a couple of times in the 1st quarter I thought we should have dunked with 3 defenders standing there with the ball under the basket, instead of putting it off the backboard, because I think it would have drawn a foul. Good points- I like the way we are rotating our bench during the game. I like the production from the bench. Deep team, and I only hope it gets deeper, and I am happy to see everyone can contribute. Turnover difference in this game was HUGE. We didn't win the rebound game, the Free throw game, or the field goal game. It is nice to see that we can get it done against a decent opponent in other areas when we need to. A couple of times the team really came alive and everyone in the Pit was loud and into the game. I don't think it is necessarily a problem with the crowd not wanting to get into the game, but they have to be inspired to get up and get loud, and at a couple of points last night that was what happened and it was awesome. I am really glad that I was able to make this game. I don't get to make too many because of the night of the week most of them fall on, but this game was a treat. There are some very good things going on with the program right now, very good kids being brought in with not only the ability, but the smarts to go with it. Last night proved it. I hope we keep it up.
  13. This just makes it easier on us and the coaching staff. Now, the coaching staff doesn't have to include Byerly in the rotation for possible QBs, giving the others more playing time. It also offers one less option to argue over on the board.
  14. The encouraging part was our Free Throw percentage and rebounds. The not soo impressive was our field goal percentage. Also Impressive is the depth developing in this program. Our bench has come alive and with the type of recruits we are rumored to have coming in, we may be in for some good times in BBall. I didn't get a chance to go to the game and only listened for half, but did FIU really play that sloppy, or were we driving to basket the whole game forcing them to foul us? Thanks in advance for the replies. See you Monday night.
  15. Someone left off Chuck Norris. Don't tell me you don't know who that is...
  16. The thing that most upsets me at this point in the year is not Dickey's past record. For the past 4 of 5 years, I have been quite satisfied with the upward progress the team has presented. The thing that really gets me most upset at this point of the year is the fact that there has been no changes made yet to this point. Now, I'm not sure about Kenny Evans, I'm sure he is a terrific guy. We all know about Ramon Flanigan. But, I don't see how Dickey can't take steps to improve on this past year's piss poor defensive and offensive performances. I want to hear about what is happening to make sure that it doesn't happen again. I know that it isn't all these guys' fault individually. But, it looks as if nothing is being done, and if that is the case, and if what Dickey thinks needs to be done is nothing, then I will be skeptical of Dickey until Dickey proves me wrong. And, he better hope that it is the answer because if we ever have another performance like this past season under Dickey, then he will lose my vote and will have used up his one year "bye" that I am giving him. I will support Dickey, after one bad year in the past 4, but I do hope to hear something soon as to what his solution will be to not turn in another performance like last years'. I think that we all might be on the same page here. We all are awaiting an announcement from the football offices telling the fans we won't have another performance like last year and why.
  17. EE- as I said before, I will not defend Dickey in those regards. The defenses seem to have slip every year since Deloach left. I'll tell you, giving up 27 to UT's offense I think is pretty low. Now, to give in a little bit, it sure would have been nice to have a high powered offense in that game, because I think our defense would have given them a chance. No doubt, it's going to take outstanding play on both sides to beat a Texas or LSU. Again, I'm not defending Dickey, and I think your reqs for Dickey next year are acceptable and agreeable. I want more too, but a high powered O is useless, and can be stopped by a good D. Texas Tech is a great example.
  18. Let me point out that I'm not the one who implied that they were mutually exclusive. I'm pointing out that some fans care more about who and how many people are in the stands and not so much about winning. Edit: Buff64 made my point for me.
  19. I'm not going to defend Dickey, or his attitude, but I don't know when he was brought up before this post anyways. I am not amused with Dickey's performance this past season. And until this past season, I thought things were looking up. I too, would like to see a more positive attitude from the coaching office. I think you are wrong about the scary defense. Yes, the Rod Rust era was scary. But don't tell me 3 years ago we had a mediocre D... Did you see them? Did you see the rankings? Did you see them against Texas? Sun Belt teams aren't the only ones our defense manhandled that year. And they had an attitude about them that was anything but mediocre. Maybe Deloach knows coaching. As for recruiting- I think it may be a bit easier to convince an allstar HS player to come here to play D when compared to an allstar QB. We have had successs at the RB position in recent years, yes, but I think defensive propects might give us more of a look, and I think that maybe other schools hit the offensive stars up recruiting a little hard. I'm not saying we shouldn't persue them, I want them to come here too. Please save the PMG rants for another thread. We know your position, and it grows tiresome to try to have a football related discussion talking personell when every post has something to do with firing Dickey. As another poster said offense sells tickets and defense wins championships- then goes on to say that selling tickets is what matters. As a fan, I find this unacceptable and I'm amazed you believe this. I could care less about selling tickets, I want to see a winner. I'd much rather see big hits, interceptions and dogpiles as a fan than a high scoring offense. I don't care about how many other people are at the game with me. It's more fun, but what do you want to see more a sold out crowd at an 0-11 team or a 11-0 team that you care about in front of 100 people? You sound like Tom Hicks when he recently stated that he couldn't figure out why Ranger fans were unhappy, because the team was actually making money now. WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR POCKET BOOK? I want to see a winner.
  20. Don't much care for a highpowered pass it up offense. I'd rather see sick moves at running back and some sick moves by WR's that can make outstanding catches. But, what I would love to see most of all, is that NASTY DEFENSE. I was more excited to see the defensive domination of all teams (BCS or not) 3 years ago than anything else. It would have been nice to have a little more offensive production, but god almighty that was some kind of fun to watch. Nothing got me more excited about NT football than booger and awasom crashing the backfield, or cody spencer or don mcgee or chris hurd or buckles just putting smacks on players from big name schools that I could talk about all freaking year. I want the Defense back. I want Deloach back. But, most of all, I want a mentality on defense that if you try anything funny on us, we're going to make you pay for it in a big way. I want a defense that will make other teams want to give our offense the ball, just keep our defense off the field. That is what got me hooked on NT Football, that is what I want to see more of. That is where I want the most improvement, and biggest changes.
  21. When the going gets tough, I give up too.
  22. He was too busy taking finals at USM.
  23. I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not. But, I assume you are talking about my use of RV. Sooo, maybe it wasn't RV, maybe it was. But it had to have been someone in the Athletic Dept. And since I am privledged to know the atheltic director's name, I know something you don't And that makes me better than you.
  24. I honestly don't think you would, if you were that guy. But, you're not. I don't think he is the one we should be criticizing. I would be bummed if I was the only one that showed up. I applaud him for staying there and watching. What do you think he was feeling? Probably pretty embarassed when the rest of his team hung him out to dry. He depends on more than just himself.
  25. Back on topic... I may be totally wrong here, BUT. From what I have heard... Long story- Short: The Atheltic dept. usually pays for the cheerleaders to go to the national championship. WELL... In recent years I think RV put a number on how many cheerleaders should be at basketball games or else the AD wouldnt pay for the trip. The cheerleaders were upset by this and figured, if they weren't guaranteed a trip to the NC, then why should they guarantee showing up to BB games. It kind of sounds like the cheerleaders didn't think they could get that many folks there for the games and they knew it. So just give up... Now, I understand that cheerleaders have their own jobs and such too. But if you are expecting a trip somewhere, and expecting someone else to pay for it. Shouldn't you do something in return? Kind of like a job, huh? But this job requires you to go to your own schools basketball games. Sounds like a fun job to me. Otherwise, pay your own way, don't come to the games at all, and don't put the North Texas letters on the front of your uniform when you compete in the NC. This is how I understand this issue. I could be wrong, but... I doubt it.
