He went limp and had to change his name...

It sure would raise attendance numbers in a hurry. And, it would be a great extra source of income. Although, it would thoroughly confuse the crap out of Flanagan when he can't figure out how to break a plastic Bud Light bottle over the fans' heads.
-
Well, it worked for the coaches when they plugged it into their PS2 simulation of the game on Monday. EDIT: That's giving them too much credit, they probably didn't ask the magic PS2 simulation until saturday morning.

I see no other option, but for the university to completely back us at this level. We are pot commited at this time. The officials have no choice, Dr. Pohl and RV have set it up to where there isn't even an option at this point. Thank God when we were having success these gentlemen had the vision/foresight and were able to capitalize on it. Our athletics program has much to owe both of them.

Embarassment. UT didn't shut us out. Tulsa didn't shut us out. Akron didn't shut us out. SMU didn't shut us out. RF should be fired first thing tomorrow. Dickey had better be hiding under his desk, because as far as I am concerned his job should be open on Monday. We are officially the worst team in D-1A. To let this season go the same way as last season is totally unacceptable and we should send such a message.

If you are 6' tall you can fall down on every play and pick up double that.

He might know what he is talking about, but no one else does...

Nope, I joined this board the same year you did. When you lose you figure out how to get better. You don't point fingers and give up, like so many on this board have already done to this team after 4 games.

Here's the rest of the 4-0 teams and the ranking in the AP poll Big East (1) Ohio State (2) Auburn (4) West Virginia (5) Florida (6) Michigan (8) Louisville (10) Georgia (11) Va. Tech (13) Iowa (22) Boise St. (23) Rutgers (25) Missouri other 4-0 teams and who they beat... Big Ten: Purdue- Indiana St, Miami (OH), Ball St, Minn. ACC: Wake Forest- Syracuse, Duke, UConn, Ole Miss Big 12: Texas A&M- The Citadel, La Lafayette, Army, La Tech CUSA: Houston- Rice, Tulane, Gram St, Oklahoma St It can be argued that the programs in the top 25 shouldn't be there because a lot of them schedule cupcake opponents for the first 4 weeks anyway. Out of the 4 not in the top 25 I think Wake Forest might have the biggest arguement. Edit: it also has a little to do with where they start this season and finish last season.

1. We all know that is not true, which is why I didn't have to say as much. I was not implying that we do now, I was saying 2-3 years ago we lost them too... 2. Doing what we did 2-3-4 years ago IS good enough at this point. 2-9 is NOT. Next year assuming we do get back to 2-3-4 years ago, it will increase. Second it is just freaking hilarious that people always bring up this argument.... "Go to work tomorrow and tell your boss that you are going to be the same employee that you were five years ago and see how long that last." What in the world can you draw a comparison to in the work place from sports? How does that apply to what we are talking about? It just doesn't make ANY sense. This... is a game and should be treated as such... I think that some of us forgot that for there to be a winner in a game, there must be a loser. I also think that some of us don't quite know how to lose. And what to do and not do after losing.
-
My thoughts exactly. Everything you have stated is a reasonable goal. And you are not calling the season a failure, like others. We forget, we used to lose every OOC game before running the table in conference regularly. If we can get back to that this season, then it is a successful season. I know my expectations might be pathetic as E-bone pointed out, but I'll take that if it means that I will not be totally defeated at the end of the season when we are chilling in New Orleans. Which brings me to my next question. If, and when we make it to New Orleans after everyone has already given up on the team after 4 outings... Will those who gave up now be allowed or even want to go?
-
I don't think you give Tulsa or Akron enough credit. Akron especially. Playing competetive is not an unrealistic expectation, but nowhere have you previously stated that being competitive against these teams is all you want. I am not necessarily comparing them to a Bently, Texas on the other hand can be. What's pathetic is thinking we are better than we actually are. We are almost running a popsicle stand with the type of funding we are giving the athletic dept. This is not a "whoa is me" attitude, but at the rate some of you want an improvement it is crazy to have such high expectations, and such crap to say about the team after 4 games, and after the type of year that we had last year. I think it is pathetic for you to jump to conclusions and dog a team that hasn't even played the bulk of their schedule yet. We've seen 4 games, all have shown a marked improvement over last year's team. and you pull out the "we're never going anywhere" defeatist speech. Ever wonder why Dickey has some of those same feelings if that's the way the fans think?
-
And yours are totally unrealistic. You are expecting to buy a Bently while working at McDonalds. Stop pretending to be a voice of reason.
-
It would be unrealistic to predict that, and it is unacceptable that it happened, no doubt. But rising is a lot harder than falling. Especially when your starting QB dies in a car accident.
-
Yea, actually I did. Did you see the record of last season's team? 2-9. Not only did we not win an OOC game last year, we lost to every single "horrible" conference team. I would say so far, that is a huge improvement over last year. 4-5 years from now I hope we don't measure ourselves like this, but for this year it is a pretty realistic and logical measuring stick, and that's not being optimistic or drinking koolaid. How can you possibly expect to win OOC games when we can't even win Conf. games? How in the world can you explain expecting to have as many wins in 4 games against OOC opponents as we did all of last year? Do you realize how crazy your line of logic is?

You people are amazing. Where was all this talk of mediocrity while we were in New Orleans playing Memphis? Not until will have a 2-9 season do people get pissed off about not hanging with Texas. Are you kidding me? Do you realize how rediculous this actually is? Back when we hung in games with every non BCS school and were winning conf., no one said we were mediocre. Now, you are telling me you are mad that we didn't win them after a 2-9 season... It's unbeleivable to me how you can pass yourself off as wanting to be above mediocre now and complaining about everything you were soaking in 2-3-4 years ago. 2-9 last season, we are half way to tieing our record last year, and conf. hasn't even begun. That's not a fun stat, but after a 2-9 season you people expect to hang with Texas and Tulsa and Akron? FUNNY! Yes, I long for the days that on any given Saturday I can turn on the TV and watch the Mean Green hang tough and be in every single game they play. But after a 2-9 season, you folks want everything to change in 1 freaking year. Did you really expect to be 2-2 at this point? You folks choose to ignore the fact that last year was a BIG step back, and a lot of it was close games with conf. opponents. You also choose to ignore the fact that last year we had absolutely NO experience at the QB position last year, which can be attributed to the sad death of Andrew Smith. We only lost be less than a TD in every single game. Had we not gone 2-9 last season, I doubt you people would act so high and mighty and would be so vocal about "going above and beyond", or taking the high road and saying "we expect more". You people had your chance to be vocal in New Orleans when we played Southern Miss and Memphis and you blew it because you chose to stand silently and enjoy it like the rest of us. It slays me that you would pick now to be so blatently unsupporting of your program.
-
I don't know if you saw the SMU game...
-
I tend to agree with you. After a 2-9 season a team doesn't usually turn around and go 9-2 or 10-2. Our win against SMU is respectable at this point. And all of you fools that will label me a mediocrity lover for saying such need to take a huge step back and become realists. While I don't like going 5-6 or 6-5 and being middle of the pack, it is the best we can hope for after a season like last year. Winning the Sun Belt is something to be proud of, I agree. And... while it would be nice to see more OOC wins, I just don't think that after a 2-9 season, it is very realistic to think that we should have had any business beating teams like Tulsa and Akron who both turned in pretty nice seasons last year. This doesn't mean I expect less from our team. I expect improvement. So far I haven't seen much, but the SMU goes a long way to putting us on the right path to return to where we once were 2-3 years ago
-
Well, even if you did try to pick the pitiful Oline as an excuse, it could still come back to coaching. -Who do we have teaching these guys blocking schemes? -Who do we have calling plays in order to not keep 8-9 guys out of the box? I'll be the first to admit that I don't know how to coach. But, 5 pass plays out of that entire game is sad. Tulsa's adjustment came 5 minutes before the second half, when they realized that our offense was just going to run the ball. They weren't scared and dared us to beat them. Have we ever dared them to beat us? There is a fine line between being conservative in this situation and just looking plain silly. Pulling a QB when we are down three TDs in the 3rd quarter to me, was like giving up. Playing a field position game, and controlling clock are great when you are ahead or have a lot of game left to be played. But when you A. Can't run and B. The opposition knows that you are going to keep doing it, then I think it is time to change things up a bit.

First the weather, now the band buz!
MeanMag replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I think YOU are missing the point... No one is saying it's your fault. YOU are not THE BAND. YOU were a stand out in the band obviously if you did all that. We aren't questioning what you did for the band or the school or anything of the sort. If it's compliments you are fishing for (which I'm sure you're not) then you have done a spectacular job. We ask that there are more of you, and there is nothing you can change about that, unless you become the director. And yes there are things the band does that are good enough, and there are things that aren't good enough. Unfortunately the way things work in this world the bad things get noticed the most. I think you are too close to the situation to offer an unbiased opinion. Your input is welcome since you are so close and familiar with the operations and such of these things. But, don't let that blind you to the obvious opportunities the band has shown in 1 game this season that they could improve on. Obviously the band can't please everyone, but if they could at least act like they want to be there and are proud to be there, we'll take it and not say a word. They might be proud to be there, but to an outsider looking in they sure as hell have a funny way of showing it, and there is nothing YOU (Debbie) can do about it, but influence a band director. So please don't get too offended or worked up over it. We know that you did a lot, and we aren't singling you out saying YOU didn't do enough. You were but 1 of 200-300.
