Radio just said Eric Cappers "happy half time notes" The biggest comeback in Dickey History, and it only took 1 quarter. Incredible Give Brewster a Full Time Job.

I like the thread giving the UNT band props. The rest of the threads look like something we would be saying if our GREEN team hadn't had a shot tonight. I can't help but feel sorry for them, because we all know what it feels like.

College Gameday last week

I'm not sure if you guys saw it before they started work on that waterfall, but it really did look nice around the fountain, to the admin building. It did look good before, but if this makes it better, then that's okay too. I too, hope it doesn't take too long, because the construction looks far worse than the job they had done before to restore that area. And I'm sure many of us are fine with the school spending that much to make that site really nice. I just hope that the funding keeps pouring in to beautify other parts of the campus that need updating as well, say, fouts field...

Really? I think you'd be hard pressed to name 1 person on this board that believes that.

Good post... maybe I am not in the minority. For those of you who say a comparison can be drawn: I'd like to see you go across the street and support Texas, because obviously their product is better (defending national champions). Maybe you will get your money's worth there.

To be honest, I sat at work with a fellow coworker and listened to the game. The anticipation is the best part... Not knowing whether or not we will lose by 35 or 2 is very exciting.

These are my thoughts exactly. I don't know how long it's been since some of you have seen a student's bill, but they really are already nickel and diming. Everytime the program wants a new coach, do we then raise the fees another 100 dollars? To me, it's a pretty slippery slope and going to the well too many times will lead to a decline in support. If fees were to be raised another $100 I would rather see the money spent on a new stadium, than seeing Dickey get out of here 1 or 2 years earlier than contracted. Just a much bigger payoff with new facilities IMO.

I wasn't trying to retort your point. I was trying to point out a flaw in comparing our school to a corporation. I know you said, "I know NT is not a corporation", but if you know that, why the comparison? Sports fans and customers, in my opinion are completely different. Sports fans are emotionally tied to teams and depending on whether the team is doing well or not an emotion is tied to that. Sports fans keep coming back, because there is something more than just entertainment, goods, or services being provided to the fan. The expectation placed on business by customers is that of getting what you paid for. I don't care what sports team you are watching, but depending on what your definition of getting your money's worth is, it can be a rollercoaster ride. So, every fan has to ask themself why they keep coming back if they value the price of their ticket based on a win or loss. In my eyes, the value and determinant on whether or not I go to games is if I have fun. The game and team can completely suck, and I might still have fun at the game. It would be even more fun to get a win, and fans have every right to complain if they don't. The way I choose to enjoy an NT game these days, is the same way I enjoy a Rangers' game. I realize how emotionally and physically devoted some of you are to NT football, but I have to admit maybe I'm a worse fan for not caring very much. But at times like this, I am glad that I care enough to be upset that we suck, and not enough to make claims like, "I'm done, I'll never go to another game again."

Good read. I would imagine that the 25-30 programs making money off athletics are the ones we would want to emulate. So, it is my opinion that until we get there, we should not draw comparisons between companies and our schools athletics.

Well, I think this analogy is not only tired and worn, but comparing this academic institution's football program to a corporation doesn't make any sense. I understand your displeasure with the way things are going, but companies don't sit around and hope people give them money. Maybe if we treated football at UNT like all the other major schools do (as a profit center), we can compare corporations to our football program. As of right now, however, there is no vision and want to build NT into a football corporation and we are lacking investors. The biggest investor of all: The School Itself- The board of reagents. We could build the new stadium if we really wanted to. Companies go out and make things happen, or they collapse (even if they sit idle). Until then, I will sit back and enjoy the small time atmosphere at UNT to the best of my ability. Maybe we will get another lucky recruiting class sometime soon.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels like tech is the epicenter for everyting thug. The Ironic part is that it is in the middle of a freaking sandpit, and not in the middle of a sprawling, innercity metropolis. I think Leach is just as bad, althought he is fun to listen to sometimes. I guess he has taken a page out of Bobby Knights dictionary.

I know its a stretch but: Dom Capers Ernest Dominic "Dom" Capers (born August 7, 1950 in Cambridge, Ohio, and from Buffalo, Ohio) is the current defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins as well as the former head coach of the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers. Capers attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio where he played linebacker and safety. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kent State University and the University of Washington. Later he was an assistant coach at Hawaii, San Jose State, California, Tennessee and Ohio State. After a stint in the USFL, he began his NFL career as an assistant with the New Orleans Saints and was named defensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1991, including a trip to the AFC Championship game in 1994. He remained with the Steelers until becoming head coach of the expansion Carolina Panthers in 1995. After 1995's 7-9 season, a record breaking mark for an expansion team, the Panthers went to the NFC Championship game in 1996. Continuing to spend against the salary cap, and eventually taking control of personnel matters in 1997, the Panthers went 7-9, followed by a dismal 4-12 season in 1998, at the end of which he was terminated. After being let go from the Panthers, he served as an assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars until becoming the head coach of the expansion Houston Texans on January 21, 2001. After starting out 4-12 (2002) and 5-11 (2003) in his first two seasons in Houston, the Texans posted a 7-9 mark in 2004. Capers was known for his abilities as a defensive coach, and for his conservative play-calling on offense. Several TV announcers were known to predict Texans plays on occasion. He was also famous because he kept a 17 hour per day work schedule and sleeping just five hours per night, often on a couch in his office. The Texans announced in 2005 following their dismal record of 2-14 (worst in NFL) that Capers would be fired January 2, 2006. On January 23, 2006, the Miami Dolphins announced the hiring of Dom Capers as the team's defensive coordinator. There, he will also serve as assistant head coach under Nick Saban.

Does a recruiter at our program have to ask the question to a recruit, "Where do you want to be in 5 years?" What is an acceptable answer for a recruit to respond with at our program? What is an acceptable answer for a recruit to respond with at a BCS program? Do you deny a kid that only wants to play for a scholarship and not to make it to the NFL? If you do not deny a kid that doesn't have any desire to play in the NFL what motivates him to be the best? Do we actually ask any of these questions to recruits? I am not questioning the desire of anyone of our players or potential recruits, I am simply asking what the procedures of recruiting are at our program, compared to where we want to be. Is the focus of our coaching staff to win games? or to prepare kids to take that step to the next level? While the two might be mutually exclusive, to me, there is a difference in developing a recruit into an NFL caliber player and developing a player to be succesful in a system where the objective is winning games in the SunBelt. I do not see a huge concern by this coaching staff to develop players into stars. It seems it does not happen unless there is a unusually self-motivated, talented player such as Quinn, Awasom, Cobbs. While I understand it takes much self motivation and talent, and that NFL players are the best of the best, it only makes sense to have a little motivation and coaching to become that player.

Funny post. I really hope you are kidding. SA is the Armpit of Texas. If you aren't, let me be the one to tell you it is very ignorant to base the value of your future and education on the success of a football program, unless you are planning on playing in the NFL. And even then, Quinn will still find someplace to play on Sundays. And good luck to you.
