  1. ESPN shows last night's attendance was 2100. Does that seem right? I couldn't make it, but that crowd sounded loud on TV. Kudos to those who represented! Hope to make it for a crazy game against Arkansas State. It is sad that attendance is down as our basketball programs are on the rise. Myron Medcalf from ESPN says, "Average attendance for Division I men's basketball has fallen in the past 15 years, from 5,325 in 2007-08 to 4,354 last season. " (2023). Our attendance is down from over 4000 to around 3400.
  2. Apparently we are in the best portion of the bracket. No upsets and teams seem interested in advancing. Pack the Pit.
  3. I'm joking. I know what you are saying and agree with you. I actually get bored with people running all the time and not playing half court. I like watching a play develop and succeed. I am happy to hear the ESPN announcers at least admitting the way we play is not boring.
  4. Outscoring teams is literally the only way to win.🤣
  5. I wondered the same thing after his 27 or so point game, but just because he isn't scoring 27 doesn't mean he isn't contributing. It is his senior year and he has been great for us!!! Can't wait to see him tonight and hope it isn't for the last time! Let's show him some well earned respect. GMG
  6. It would be bad for us, but good for him! I think he did a great job for what he was given. I think he likes it here, but money talks. WVU has a fan base that really shows up when they are winning and he knows Wren Baker as an AD. I think it is too early to make that jump, but what do I know.
  7. Thank you. It would be great to have them all back.
  8. Having difficulty finding out who has remaining eligibility under new rules. Who could return next year?
  9. Those teams have to have someone to beat in the first round. Good luck to them, Tulane looked pretty good against Memphis.
  10. Beating Temple wouldn't have given us an at large bid. I agree with the rest. Utsa loss killed out chances
  11. At the game, my wife said yaxel was hurt, but when I looked at him he looked fine and running full speed. And the Temple game was meaningless either way. The utsa game was a terrible loss that could have changed the outcome of our season dramatically. Losing to uab is nothing to be ashamed of but still disappointing.
  12. Robert Allen got popped in the mouth and had to have stitches. He wanted to stay in the game. We either need to transfer in overlooked players and offer exposure so they can transfer to the p5 or bring in seniors so they can play their butts off knowing every game could be their last. Which would you prefer? I'm with you on this topic and I think it will take time to adjust to this new reality. When it comes to enjoying the game and playing together, this years team is a great example.
  13. I know it has a lot to do with giving power 5 teams not good enough to go to the NCAA tournament a chance to play each other post season, but it could also be a way for mid-majors to get exposure. With nil and the transfer portal, it is going to be harder and harder to get teams to be willing to play in the post season at all. Why would a player that can make millions next season risk getting hurt to play in the NIT. I know this team has a lot of seniors and they are very close. They will savor any opportunity to continue playing together, but UNT would have received much more exposure in the Crown. Clearly.
  14. ESPN+ is definitely worth it in March. 😂
  15. And here we go. Now we go to the NIT without a single team that will increase our exposure. At least we get to do all the legwork for the power 5 again next year. No one knows who we are except the recruiters for P5. Maybe the AAC will get better, but I don't see 5 seed Memphis sticking around much longer. $25m to get out might be worth it for them. Sorry to be so negative. I am proud of our basketball programs.
  16. It wasn't long ago that statisticians said that a player couldn't get hot and that being in the zone was a myth. We don't live in the matrix and humans are not as predictable as they seem. And it seems odd that a team that is often considered a quad 1 game is incapable of a quad 1 win.
  17. Money is the difference. They have 5 top talent players and the AAC teams might have two or three. Gary Parrish said players don't understand the metrics and that Memphis just says the AAC has good players and teams as an excuse. Imagine bagging up against Sissoko for 40 minutes and not knowing if he is a good player or not Thank you to Sissoko and Rubin Jones for sticking with the Mean Green for so long. They we will be missed. GMG
  18. The AAC attracts good players, but then loses them all to the power conferences. I really liked our team this year, but no one wanted to play us in the non-con and by the time we made it to conference games, teams had already dropped to the 100-300 range in net rankings. If UNT was at the middle or bottom of a power conference, they would have racked up so many quad 1 wins. But we don't have the money those teams have and had only 3 opportunities with only Memphis in our conference. Penny, Hagerty, and Dainja say AAC teams are being disrespected and that there are good teams and players in our conference. I think they are right, but when you lose 90% of your shooting every year, if given a shot at a good non-conference schedule, how can you get your team ready to compete that quickly? Someone online said that the SEC should change their slogan to the title of this post. Do you think the portal, nil, and net rankings will make it impossible for UNT to get an at large bid in the AAC?
  19. At times, I felt like this was the best "team" we have had since I have been closely following Mean Green Basketball. We could beat anyone and the players never got rattled even when down double digits. But then we lost to utsa. Sissoko scored 27 points, Wright scored 42, and we had Lorient. Massie, Floyd, Jossell, and even Newell were fun to watch and I loved how close they were so quickly. 7-8? 24 wins Could be an 8-9 with a good showing in the Crown or NIT.
  20. Someone online said the sec's slogan refers to their money, It Just Means More. Teams in the AAC attract good talent. Talent good enough that it will attract the attention of P5 teams. AAC teams will be rebuilding every year and not gel in time for non-con which means once they enter conference games, their net rankings will be 100-300 and they will have one to no chances for quad 1 wins. Maybe the PAC12 would help. Almost every player we lost in the portal will make the tournament this year while logging significant minutes as key players on their new teams. And I am happy for them. How long before we lose another coach?
  21. I miss CUSA and I'm kinda disappointed with AAC so far.
  22. I'm surprised that people think these guys can't make layups. We averaged 3400 at the Super Pit and went 15-1 and you could feel the excitement. Those guys deserved that this year and I was just hoping to feel that today. GMG
  23. I saw a lot of green, but no mean. "Fans" were sitting on their hands and not on their feet. No wonder we lost.
  24. How will attendance be for this game? Went to New Year's Eve game and audience was sparse, but loud! GMG Will be there!
