We most certainly did but not enough as you state. It was so dark that film crews had to rent lights for any major station broadcasts.

PHILADELPHIA – Riding a season high seven-game winning streak, the UNT men’s basketball team travels to Temple Sunday afternoon for its regular season finale before it begins the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament next week. The Mean Green (23-6, 14-3) and Owls are scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. CT from the Licouras Center in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+. A win Sunday over Temple for North Texas will mean they finish second in the 2025 AAC standings and will earn the No. 2 seed in the league tournament. UNT will open the AAC Tournament on Friday in quarterfinal round from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. A victory will also give them 15 league wins this season, five more than they had last year and a mark the Mean Green have only reached twice before in program history. UNT enters Sunday’s contest with 23 wins on the year, it’s already the fourth-most single season wins in program history and just one win shy of moving into the top three in UNT history. North Texas defeated Temple in Denton on Jan. 22, 76-67. UNT forward Brenen Lorient scored a career-high 20 points, had a career high 13 rebounds and had a career-high five blocks in the win. UNT’s defense held the Owls’ all-league guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. to 5-of-23 shooting, it’s the most misses Mashburn Jr. has had in a game in his entire career. UNT is 2-0 all-time versus the Owls, however, Sunday will be the first time these two teams have met in Philadelphia. North Texas is coming off a 75-64 home win over Charlotte on Thursday. The Mean Green closed out the regular season with a 15-1 home record, tied for its most single season wins in the Super Pit. UNT got a historic performance from senior guard Atin Wright who scored 42 points and made eight 3-pointers in the 11-point win over the 49ers. Wright was held to nine points in their victory over Temple on Jan. 22. A resilient effort on the road was ultimately not rewarded with a victory for the Wichita State men’s basketball team. The Shockers had a chance to tie or win the game on the final possession, but came up empty and North Texas survived for a 68-66 win at the Super Pit on Monday evening. Battling back from an early 12-point deficit on the road against the No. 1 scoring defense in the American Athletic Conference isn’t easy, but WSU managed to battle back to take a lead in the second half and have a chance in the final minute. 1. WICHITA STATE SHOWED RESOLVE, BUT ULTIMATELY CAME UP SHORT After facing a 6-point deficit entering the final two minutes, WSU made the plays to put itself in position to tie or win the game in the final seconds. Xavier Bell scored four straight points to help bring the Shockers back, then Justin Hill scored a layup to trim the deficit to 68-66 with 37 seconds left. Needing a stop, WSU’s defense forced a shot-clock violation in the final 10 seconds to set up a chance to steal a road win. read more: https://amp.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article301364114.html

DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team won its sixth game in a row as they defeated Wichita State 68-66 Monday night at the Super Pit. The win secures a top three seed for the Mean Green in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament. North Texas (22-6, 13-3) was led in scoring by senior Atin Wright who scored 21 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the win. It’s his sixth 20-point game in conference. This is only the fifth time in program history UNT has won 13 league games in a single season. “I didn’t think we played our best but (Wichita State) was a big part of that,” UNT head coach Ross Hodge said. “We had great resolve though and made some big plays down the stretch.” The Shockers (17-12, 7-9) were able to stay in the game and get a lead in the second half by forcing 14 Mean Green turnovers, which they scored 16 points off of. But down the stretch North Texas made five of its final six shot attempts to hold off Wichita State who entered Monday having won six of its last seven. UNT also got a strong offensive game from Brenen Lorient who scored 15 points in just 18 minutes of action. He dealt with foul trouble early in the game. Guard Latrell Jossell added 13 points off the bench as he made first half 3-pointers to steady North Texas as WSU made a comeback. The Mean Green remain at home as they host Charlotte on Thursday at 8 p.m. for their home finale. A win over the 49ers gives North Texas 15 home wins on the year, which would tie a Super Pit record. University of Houston athletic director Eddie Nuñez and his staff have spent the past several months crunching the numbers. Nuñez said dozens of different models were created for how UH would structure a revenue-sharing distribution plan with athletes that goes into effect this summer. “We threw a lot of things on the wall,” Nuñez said. While some details must still be finalized, Nuñez said UH is "all-in" to contribute the maximum-allowable amount of $20.5 million during the first year of revenue sharing. That represents a significant financial step for UH — which has the smallest athletic budget among Power Four schools and is heavily subsidized by the university — to remain competitive in the ever-changing college athletics landscape. Nuñez said a minimum $18 million was “a number we felt very comfortable” with because it “allowed us to have flexibility.” The figure could fluctuate closer to the $20.5 million cap depending on how many new scholarships the school adds. “The commitment was we’re going all-in,” Nuñez told the Houston Chronicle. “We’re going to do this at the highest level we can.” A federal judge is expected to give final approval on April 7 to the multi-billion House v. NCAA settlement, which will pave the way for schools to directly pay athletes. The revenue-share plan goes into effect July 1. read more: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/college/article/uh-athletes-revenue-sharing-20022189.php

UNT Head Coach Brittany Roth’s husband, Ben Roth, and their daughter were in the right place at the right time on Sunday December 22nd, and Roth was able to briefly save a life. Brittany Roth has been the head coach at UNT since 2017 and Ben Roth is a paramedic and firefighter in Plano. They hold season tickets to the Lions games, and Ben Roth told a Detroit Newspaper they try to make “four to five games a year as a family.” At the game on December 22nd between the Lions and the Bears, Ben and their daughter were sitting in club seats he described as “As close as you can be without actually being on the field.” That was when he noticed someone in a North Texas shirt, which was shocking as neither the Lions nor the Bears are based anywhere near Denton, Texas, the location of UNT. DENTON, Texas — The UNT women’s basketball team handed South Florida its first American Athletic Conference loss with a 72-65 victory at the Super Pit on Saturday afternoon. Tommisha Lampkin led the team with 29 points, tying a career high. She previously scored 29 versus UTEP on February 18, 2023, and Tulsa on Feb. 24. 2024. The conference leader in field goal percentage improved her season average, converting on 11-of-12 shots from the field and 7-of-10 attempts from the free throw line. North Texas (12-5, 4-1 AAC) took a 33-21 lead into halftime, marking the largest halftime deficit for the Bulls (11-7, 4-1 AAC) since they trailed by 12 against No. 3 South Carolina on Dec. 15. USF’s 21 points were the lowest point total they have tallied in the first half this season. “I thought we followed the game plan to a tee as far as how we wanted to guard,” head coach Jason Burton said. “We just got contributions from a lot of people.” Jaaucklyn Moore scored 14 points on the day, marking the first time she has scored double-digit points in consecutive games since Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, 2023, when she posted 17 versus Samford and 16 versus North Dakota State. UNT’s lead got as large as 24 points before USF launched a comeback in the fourth quarter, getting as close as within five points. However, Chania Price and Lampkin combined to make eight free throws down the stretch to seal the win for the Mean Green. Up next, UNT has a rematch with Rice, who knocked them out of the 2024 American Athletic Conference tournament, on Jan. 15 at the Super Pit. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcasted on the Varsity Network App with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. CT.

Mean Green add four coaches to defensive staff room For more information: Doug Waters, doug.waters@unt.edu, (936) 240-6780 DENTON – UNT head football coach Eric Morris has announced the hiring of four coaches to the staff on the defensive side of the football. The Mean Green have added Reggie Johnson (Inside Linebackers), Greg Richmond (Defensive Ends), Julian Wilson (Defensive Backs) and Ike Eguae (Defensive Tackles) to the staff. “We are extremely excited to add these guys to our defensive staff,” head coach Eric Morris said. “They bring a ton of knowledge, experience and passion to our coaching room. I can’t wait to work all of them as we look to continue to compete for championships here at North Texas.” All four coaches join the UNT staff after spending the 2024 season at Sam Houston working under new defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity. In addition, current Interim Defensive Coordinator Brian Odom will return for a second season. He will now coach outside linebackers and nickels. A 25-year veteran, Johnson joins the UNT staff after coaching linebackers at Sam Houston in 2024, helping the Bearkats finish the season 19th in FBS in total defense. Johnson’s resume includes coaching in 11 bowl games, including trips to the 2005 Gator Bowl, the 2006 Orange Bowl, the 2010 Sugar Bowl and the 2011 Cotton Bowl. Prior to his time at Sam Houston, Johnson spent four seasons coaching linebackers at Missouri State, helping the Bears to the 2021 MVFC Championship and their first appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs in 30 years. Richmond also comes to UNT with a wealth of experience with nearly 15 years of collegiate coaching experience. At Sam Houston in 2024, Richmond helped the Bearkats finish 16th in FBS in fumbles forced and second in Conference USA in sacks. Prior to his time at Sam Houston, Richmond was the defensive line coach at Oklahoma State from 2018-22, producing a pair of First Team All-Big 12 defensive linemen and helping OSU rank among the national leaders in tackles for loss three straight seasons. Wilson joins the staff as the defensive backs coach after serving in the same role with the Bearkats in 2024. Under his watch, Sam Houston finished the regular season ranked as the No. 10 passing defense in FBS and led C-USA with 12 interceptions on the year. Wilson was the defensive backs coach at Abilene Christian in 2022-23 and served as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech from 2020-21. Wilson was also a dynamic defensive back himself, spending three seasons (2015-17) in the NFL with the Chiefs, Ravens and Vikings after a stellar collegiate playing career at Oklahoma from 2011-14. Eguae has been the defensive line coach for Sam Houston each of the last two seasons and will coach defensive tackles for the Mean Green. He has helped the Bearkats finish second in C-USA in rushing defense each of the past two seasons. An 18-year coaching veteran, Eguae also had prior stops at Stephen F. Austin, Fort Hays State, Pittsburg State and Coffeyville CC. In his one year at SFA, Eguae coached a pair of FCS All-Americans on the defensive line and helped the Lumberjacks earn a spot in the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2013. -- GMG --
