  1. I am saying his juco team went 15-17 and 8-14 in conference. Maybe they handed out participation trophies? Everyone's a winner.
  2. Concerns are 31% from 3, turnover prone and his team was not very good.
  3. I count 3 juco guys on his rosters and some d1 transfers.
  4. 72.8 PPG last year. Vs 68.1
  5. Connections in nearby Chicago. That was a must. LOL
  6. He was under James Dickey and he did not have a great record. But that was before they gave a damn about basketball.
  7. You're right. I missed that.
  8. Never heard of him but he seems ok. No ties to Texas at all.
  9. UTEP fans would love for someone, anyone to take Golding off their hands.
  10. For those that don't know, when there is a coaching change the players get a fresh 30 days to go in the portal. (Past the deadline for everyone else) I presume it starts the day the new guy is officially hired.
  11. It would probably take in excess of $1.5 million to pull him from his alma mater.
  12. I am not saying Miller is good or bad. But I am saying that a 77% win rate in Juco is not all that great. It's not bad but there are a lot of guys who had better records for longer who never got a chance at d1. Hank Plona for example, 225-35 over 8 years or .865. And he probably would not be a D1 head coach today without a bit of luck. There was a guy at South Plains who had good long term record over 23 years and never got a chance to be a d1 head coach. Eric Murphy posted a 143-34 overall record (.829 winning percentage) as head coach for Florida Southwestern and just this year went to be a d1 assistant at WKU. Steve Demeo is another with a great long term record. Never got a chance to be a d1 head coach. There is a guy who went 46-9 in his first 2 years as a juco head coach and he went on to be a d1 assistant. Zack Settembre. He drew my attention because he is a young guy who dies his hair grey.
  13. Pitino went 8 years with a .360 conference win rate. Kennedy's conference win rate was never that low. It was .510 overall at Ole Miss.
  14. I am not sure. There is risk in no matter who you hire. Do you want a retread? Someone with no d1 coaching experience? What are they willing to pay? I thought Greg Heiar at NMSU was a good hire. And he is right back in the final 8 at his juco. But it was a total dumpster fire at NMSU. When Forbes left ETSU they gave it to his trusty assistant who fell on his face. Then they hired an outsider who lasted 2 years and now they are on another Forbes assistant. He at least improved from year 1 to year 2 so it looks like he is getting a 3rd. Good enough to not get fired but bad enough to not get hired away. There really is no telling who will do really well with this new pro NCAA basketball. Nobody can outspend Memphis so they will have the top talent every year. How much is coaching and how much is payroll? How much is loving your wife & kids? I question the Florida State hire. I question UNLV, I question the Colorado State promotion. I question teams hiring NBA guys with no NCAA experience. I question mid major guys like Ross getting thrown into higher levels and not being prepared. It's a no lose situation of course because in the worst case he walks away $15 million richer and then getting another mid major job. I guess there is a lot of infighting right now on if they can promise the new coach will be able to get an NIT home game over the really important staff lunches. I guess we have to cross our fingers and hope for the best. I just cannot see the current transfer as many times as you want without sitting out system. The no limits NIL. It's going to implode eventually and I don't have the answer.
  15. Some of the names posted are ridiculous. But I have comfort in knowing that the athletic department will find a way to do worse. Because staff luncheons are what really matters.
  16. Colorado State promoted a somewhat green assistant. 2017–2018 Drake (assistant) 2018–2025 Colorado State (assistant) 2025–present Colorado State
  17. I think it's highly unlikely that the new head coach will play at such a slow pace. And if it's not Cross I don't know. This guy maybe? Only 2 years d1 experience though. Luke Barnwell is in his second season with the Texas Tech men's basketball program as an assistant coach for Grant McCasland after recording an impressive 224-39 record in 10 seasons at Sunrise Christian Academy. He was named the 2021 and 2022 Naismith High School Boys Coach of the Year and led Sunrise Christian to the 2022 National Interscholastic Basketball Conference Championship. Barnwell helped to lead the Red Raiders to the 2024 NCAA Tournament and a 23-win season in his first year. Tech finished tied for third in the Big 12 standings and advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Big 12 Championship. He had spent the last eight seasons leading the Sunrise Christian Elite team where he compiled a 178-28 record competing against the elite basketball programs in the nation. Barnwell led SCA to five consecutive GEICO Nationals and has coached over 75 NCAA Division I players and worked with six NBA players. His team was ranked No. 1 throughout the 2022 season and won the inaugural NIBC. The program once again advanced to the final four of the GEICO High School National Tournament in 2023 with an upset of the top seed. He coached NBA players Kennedy Chandler, Kendall Brown, Gradey Dick and Ochai Agbaji and helped train Buddy Hield and Ron Baker. “Coach Barnwell has great head coaching experience and has recruited and coached some of the best players around the world,” McCasland said. “He’s got great basketball feel but his ability to relate to players is what separates him. We are thrilled to have him part of our coaching staff.” Barnwell began his time at SCA as the head coach of the post-grad basketball team where he led the program to a 41-13 record from 2012-15. He earned Midwest Prep Coach of the Year in 2015 and would help 13 players advance to NCAA Division I programs. Additionally, Barnwell gained coaching experience within the Mokan Nike Elite program where he was the head coach of Mokan 17U Select in 2014 and Mokan 15U Elite in 2015. He also assisted Mokan programs from 2016-18. An Emporia, Kansas native, Barnwell played college basketball at Newman University and Emporia State before beginning his coaching career as a student assistant. He graduated from Newman University with a bachelor’s in Sports Communications with an emphasis in coaching.
  18. Right up until the new coach is hired. None are ready to be head coach at this level.
  19. Not crazy. I had forgotten about the old FAU. SMH
  20. How does Dusty May know him? I don't see anywhere they worked together. Same for Scott Drew?
  21. $3 million x=$15 million. UNT says "well give you $900k. Do we have a deal? smh
  22. I read something that his buyout was 60% of his base salary for the remainder of his term but that was just the headline. Full article is behind a paywall. https://dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/mean_green/ross-hodge-leaving-unt-for-west-virginia/article_47f49812-b494-4967-b573-e9e18437ce87.html
  23. Regarding the portal...Players on teams with a coaching change will still be permitted to transfer and will be given 30 days once a coaching change is made.
  24. Hodge earned $750k so you think paying $2 million or more is something that is remotely possible? SMH
  25. Craig is a great idea too. Maybe offer him $3 million and a faita luncheon. Craig Smith's salary as the head coach of the University of Utah men's basketball team varies by year and includes bonuses. Year Salary 2024 $2,050,000 total pay
